It's time once again for our Game of the Year celebration. As has become tradition here at Push Square, we're filling out the holidays with a range of content that covers the best PlayStation games of the last 12 months — and it all starts with our community Game of the Year poll.
It's simple, really. All you have to do is look at the poll below and vote for your five favourite PS5 or PS4 games of 2021. This list of 50 (!) games was determined by our editorial team, so we apologise in advance if your personal Game of the Year is somehow missing.
The top five games with the most votes will be added to our own Game of the Year voting process, and will be factored into our official Game of the Year awards. We'll also use the results to create a separate community Game of the Year article, which will detail the best games of 2021, as voted by you.
Game of the Year voting closes at 17:00 GMT on the 10th December (that's this Friday!), so remember to get your votes in by then.
Please note that in the interest of fairness, results for this poll are hidden.
May the best game win!
Voting has now closed, thanks for taking part.

I honestly think it might be Resi Village. That or The Pedestrian. I’m surprised just how utterly fantastic Village is but I’ve got about 2 or 3 hours left for it to turn terrible!
It's a tough year, because I don't think there's been a clear, standout game like God of War or The Last of Us, or whatever. I imagine it's going to be quite a varied results article.
Thanks for voting, everyone!
For me, Deathloop takes the cake.
@lolwhatno It's just so it's consistent for everyone.
Gotta be Kena. F**king beautiful game.
I thoroughly enjoyed plenty of releases but Psychonauts 2 is the standout for me this year.
Tales of Arise for me! Love that game alot more thanni expected to. GOT: DC as a 2nd cause that was my GoTY last year and it just got better.
@Royalblues So GotY only goes to good games then?
😝
Cant vote, only played three on this list. Well technically five but unable to vote for individual ME games.
Never mind.
Dang PushSquare. I only played 4 of the games this year! Haha I had to lie about a 5th
Hitman 3 in VR.
If you haven't played Deaths Door, PLEASE DO. One of the best games I have played in quite some time.
@Medic_Alert Haha, I think you're safe voting for Death's Door. It's the same game across all platforms so it's not really a big deal.
Up to you, of course!
Shoutout to Returnal for most immersive experience. It took a little time, but once that game clicked, it was incredible.
@Stragen8 Don't worry, even I've barely played any of them. The backlog has been strong this year!
I cant actually pick 5 that i would vote for this year hasnt been the best
Mass effect legendary edition wins hands down and it shows that a remaster of decade old games is better than most stuff that came out this year
@3Above @Medic_Alert Tales of Arise was awesome for 25 hours, but it just fell off of a cliff for me. Still haven't finished.
@Medic_Alert Fair enough!
This year overall was bad for games I feel. I’m sure Covid had a lot to do with it, as well as the start of new console cycle. Hoping next year brings some killer AA games.
👻 ghost of tshushima director cut.resident evil village.ratchet andclank rift apart.returnal.tales of arise.thats 5 and a 6 bonus is kena.word up son
@Stragen8 I genuinely believe, had everything gone to plan, Sony had Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War Ragnarok lined up for this year.
It would (and should) have been one of the greatest first years for a console ever, when you combine it with what actually did come out and the launch lineup.
A real shame, but understandable. Schedules got ripped up by the pandemic.
I don't think any of them deserve it. Been staring at the list for about half an hour but it's like someone said above, there really hasn't been a standout this year.
My top five were Mass Effect, Guardians, Tales of Arise, Village, and Psychonauts 2. Death's Door was a close one.
I also liked GoT Director's Cut but it's really a game from last year. I didn't get to play any PS5 exclusives as I don't own one.
I also liked Hades & Narita Boy but played them on Switch.
Have to say out of that list there's only really Returnal and Rift Apart that I've really enjoyed this year. Returnal I didn't even bother finishing either because the runs can be so much of a time sink.
Kena, for as nice as it can be was somewhat of a letdown.
Also worth mentioning that for the first time in a long time I'm struggling to say I've played more than 5 of them.
Think its time to stop spending valuable gaming time with 'live service' games like GTA and Rocket League.
2021 hasn't been the best year for gaming for quite some time. Thank god for backwards compatibility.
Returnal, ratchet, disco elysium, it takes two and deathloop for me!
@solocapers Definitely been a theme for me as well. I feel like I've spent more time playing games than I ever have really, it's just all been concentrated into a select few.
Village is the only one I wanted to vote for and I haven't played most of the games on the list. I will be playing them next year and next year's games will be played the following year, etc 🙂
It really shows I don't play enough games being as I had only played 6 games off of that list (What have I been doing with my time??). I always feel that puts me in a bad place to make a call on what game of the year is as really it's just best game out of the games that I've played. I voted anyway and hope that Returnal comes out on top.
@get2sammyb Yea, I think I'm at around 150 hours on FIFA 22 already and I cant even say I'm actually enjoying it for the right reasons.
I spend most of my time raging at inhuman keepers saving everything and then my defenders splitting like Moses has arrived.
Its the carrot dangling in FUT thats got me and its not healthy. Can see why poor saps end up throwing money at it trying to 'chase the losses'
Where's the "nothing" checkbox?
Insisting on 5 answers is a pain - I haven't actually played 5 games in that list No vote for me, then.
@nessisonett I think it finishes strong but I can understand how it could be divisive.
I picked Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding out of the need to pick 5. But my top 3 are
1) Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Put it this way if it was a PS Studios game it would the firm favourite because it's nearly on that level.
2) Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. Incredibly fun as you expect from Insomniac even if it wasn't the kind of game I wanted which was more like A Crack in Time.
3) Returnal. Housemarque proved that their arcade style of gameplay can translate to a AAA format and now that Sony have bought, the future looks promising for them.
Honorable mention for Mass Effect Legendary Edition for remaster of the year.
@get2sammyb If that had happened, it would have been an absolutely legendary launch. With the console shortage though, delaying games is probably helping Sony overall. Keep that hype train rolling full steam for when GOW launches
Here are my top five PlayStation Games of the Year. Though it must be said that I still haven’t yet played Deathloop, Kena: Bridge of Spirits or Resident Evil Village this year, which may, or may not, have affected my top five.
1. Death’s Door
2. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
3: Returnal
4. Hades
5. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
Also, shout out to Guilty Gear Strive and The Pedestrian. If only it was a top seven!
The last stand aftermath should be on the list.
Gotta support the indys...
And while I'm at it mass effect and death stranding in fact any remaster shouldn't be on a 2021 goty list.
It looks stupid..
It is a toughie as a couple of games which I expect to be in my top 5 are Christmas presents so haven't played them yet and can't vote for them (GotG & Disco Elysium)
Top 5 (PS5):
Deathloop
Resident Evil Village
Ratchet & Clank
Far Cry 6
Hades (last year really)
I would have put Control in there had the PS5 ultimate edition been an option - superb game!
I've just voted for the 5 titles I want to buy along with the PS5 when I can finally get hold of one.
Only had mine for three weeks so I can't vote as I've only played one game.
Why do I have to select 5, when only 1 on that list (Returnal) is what I would vote for?
No FIFA, NHL, F1, MLB, Life Is Strange.. Good job that "Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars" and "Ys IX: Monstrum Nox" are included!! 🤮🤦
PS5 for me is for PlayStation exclusives.
So not a vintage year, but R&C takes it for me.
And can tell already HZDFW for 2022 mainly because GT7 and all track racers don’t do it for me and I’m not banking on GOW releasing next year.
I wanted to pick Returnal 5 times!!! Ended up with Returnal, Hades, Undermine, Deaths Door and Guardians of the Galaxy.
It was a good year for ports and remasters. Mass Effect Legendary Edition took the cake for me.
Returnal 100% hands down drops mic game over ☑️
Why not make people choose 1, then there's a clear winner? I haven't played 5 from the list
I would have chosen Control Ultimate Edition and Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania as two of my choices, but they're not an option here.
@Saltborne
I'm highly interested in Deaths Door, but the lack of truly desirable games for me this generation has led me to finally work on my backlog. At least games in my backlog I know I can and want to finish, the rest, I'll chalk it up to poor spending decisions as ill never bother with them.
It'll have to wait.
Between Far Cry 6 and Hitman 3.
With a sprinkle of Unpacking.
@Stragen8
Ha, I added Psychonauts 2 despite not playing it yet. I have a feeling it'll be worth the wait.
In no particular order, my top 5...
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Deathloop
Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart
It Takes Two
Psychonauts 2
The disrespect to Scarlet Nexus not even being selectable is inexcusable! For shame Push Square! 😄
I guess since Scarlet isn't selectable mine is Lost Judgment.
Little Nightmare 2 once again being ignored and not on the list..
It takes two deserves the GOTY really..
I'm fan of RE franchise, RE Village was good but extremely overated - 7/10 at best (will not even comment on deathloop )
Returnal probably the best big PS5 game this year
Ratchet was very nice but too short and more of a showcase
For me it is Bugsnax, I think the PS+ version was last year but I played it this year - it also got a Physical Release in 2021.
First Class Trouble was the other big surprise! I've been playing it a lot recently and its refresing to play an onlne competitive game thst isn't a shooter.
Beyond them, Resident Evil Village was decent - A little over the top in comparison to VII before it but enjoyable.
I've still got a lot of games like Life Is Strange True Colors, Lost Judgment, Scarlet Nexux & Guardians of the Galaxy to play.
I couldn't pick 5. I wanted to vote for hell let loose but it wasn't there, so chicory (not played but looks original) and ratchet and clank.
So there's only 2 I would've picked, NOTHING else.
@MatthewJP yeah, totally agree. Up to 5 if they must do these polls in such a daft way.
"Sorry, you must select at least 5 options."
But I don't want to!
Turns out I only played 5 games from that list: Ratchet&Clank:RA, Tales of Arise, Persona 5 Strikers, Nier Replicant and Far Cry 6. But I really don't want to give Far Cry 6 a vote because it don't deserves one imo. Where's Scarlet Nexus, I'd vote for that instead
A lot of the games listed will be 2022 games for myself Death's Door/Hades/Disco Elysium.
For all the moaning that happens within gaming communities there is an embarrassment of riches across all platforms. Something for everyone.
"please select 5"
But I've only played 3 new games this year...and one of them was glitchy and buggy.
This is why I don't buy games within the first year anymore.
Hard to vote as I have only played 3 out of that list.
It takes two, kena, and returnal. I’d round out my top 5 with hotwheels and oddworld soulstorm but y’all left those off.
@get2sammyb If everyone manages to stay on schedule, 2022 is going to be absolutely bonkers.
@Saltborne The story really kept me enthralled. Its takes some nice twists around 40hrs in. Give it a 2nd go, you might be surprised 😀
EDIT: and fishing is actually fun!
Narrowing to 5 is kind of hard. Tales, Hitman, Great AA is an old 3DS game but the first time playing it, Deathloop, R&C, Ys...I'm already over 5 and am missing some.
@LazyLombax Here’s someone preaching the truth here! The Forgotten City got my vote too!
Voted for Death Stranding because it’s my favorite game of all time. It’s a little dubious calling it goty 2021, but I’ll show my support for DS anytime.
Resident Evil, Kena, and Ratchet filled out my other choices, but Deathloop, Psychonauts, and Returnal are arguably interchangeable with Ratchet.
Didn’t see Life is Strange, but I would’ve voted for it over Ratchet.
I’ve never put more hours into a game on PlayStation than Genshin Impact, yet like Dragon Age: Inquisition, from whom it took the crown, I’m not sure I’d vote for it given a chance. Thankfully it’s not an option so you saved me the moral dilemma 😂
Didn’t play most of the big AAA games yet £70’s a lot innit
Hard to choose as I have played all of those games!
I think Returnal is really underrated/underappreciated. It takes a while to click, but once it does its so so good. One of my best games of the last 10 years, nevermind this year.
Struggled to pick 5, and out of the five I picked 4 of them I played on other platforms. Pyschonauts 2 is my favourite from the list but little nightmares 2 is my actual goty.
Whenever this topic comes up I just default to 'Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's latest'. Easiest question I get all year, every year.
Resi village or Returnal, period.
This year has been extremely...meh. I know "Game of the Year" doesn't necessarily mean "Great Game" just "The Best of What We Were Given" so while the 5 I chose were all good games, there isn't a single great game on the list.*
Here is hoping for a better 2022!
*There are a few games that I haven't gotten to yet, like Resident Evil Village (not caught up in the series) and Disco Elysium (they haven't shipped the physical copies yet) so maybe that might change retrospectively.
I don’t have 5 games I loved on that list. For me it’s resident evil village tho
That was a struggle picking 5 games.
I don’t think any of them reach the high standard of previous GOTY winners (not counting Directors Cuts or Rereleases). There are some ok games though.
One of my picks was R&C even though I haven’t played it yet... just because I love the franchise and you can usually rely on Insomniac releasing quality games 🤷
Far Cry 6. Not the best in the series for me, but it had it's moments and Antón (Giancarlo Esposito) and his son were great and had a good storyline. Also as a Dominican American, I appreciated the Latin-Carribean theme in that game lol. Resident Evil village is a close second. I felt RE village was fun but it lack content, In a way I'm glad it didn't overstayed its welcome, but still.. As for the rest of that list...meh.
@Kang81 totally understand that. Luckily, Deaths Door is a 7-8 hour game, and 10-12 for the Platinum. It also has one of the more fun plats.
Scarlet Nexus was not on your list. It’s my second favourite PlayStation game of the year so far.
@3Above Alright, I'll dive back in. I just don't think I'm playing it right . Do you switch characters often? I have only used ironface.
@Ryall Scarlet Nexus was rad. The fact that the accessories you wore showed up in cutscenes and on the loading screen blew me away for some reason lol. I kept it downloaded so I can play the second character at some point.
@Ilovecoffee Far Cry 6 was so good. I don't understand the hate on this game. It was the best one since 3.
My PS4 GOTY 2021
My Universe: Puppies and Kittens
I'm different.
I'm always different.
This is my gaming style.
Only playing kids games.
What I have played the most on my PS5 is No Mans Sky new "Exposition missions" and Diablo 3 Seasons! Ratchet and Clank is the only game i played on the list. I have Guardian's of the Galaxy but haven't even opened it yet.
I understand why Blue Reflection Second Light isn't there, despite how much i love it, but am I going mad? No Scarlet Nexus?
@lolwhatno this happened to me too… I only wanted to pick 3.
I played 4 of them in this list but only wanted to vote for 3.
so, picked the 3 I liked, the 4th I played but felt meh about, and the 5th I WANTED to play because it got rave reviews.
Happy voting, ya’ll!
Close call between resident evil village and guardians of the galaxy maybe..enjoy your selections^_^
Final Fantasy Intergrade....
A Short Hike, Ratchet and Clank, Chicory, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Psychonauts 2 we're all amazing games, and the fact that three of those five titles are indies are amazing.
Wow! You left out the best game released in 2021! Hell Let Loose is a gem on PS5.
@LazyLombax Hope us talking about The Forgotten City gets more people playing.
For Rift Apart, I feel like I made the mistake of playing the Ratchet and Clank remake right before Rift Apart, and it reminded me of how much I loved the original game, but that also reminded me how formulaic the series can be in Rift Apart. I agree 100% that the game builds up as you meet the cast, and as the visual tricks wear off, the game sort of settles into a repetitive groove. It’s fun all the way through, but it never had that big breakout moment I wanted it to have.
@Dan_ozzzy189 Hell Let Loose is the game of the year for me.
Sad that it was left out.
What a bad year for gaming!
I really wanted to vote but no Little Nightmares 2 means no vote from me.
The selection of games here shows just how pathetic the gaming industry is look at the state of this list not 1 of these games deserves a spot what a joke
I only played one game on this list (R&C). Lots of smaller games are missing.
Tales of Arise and Lost Judgement. Tho I bought these 2 games for xbox.
Hard to call. Alot of games are cross gen. Some games are remasters of top tier PS4 titles..
If I had to choose something that punched above its weight it would be Kena Bridge Of Spirits. Indie studio who developed a very good video game.
Death Stranding is a genius game but technically is last year's, same with GOT.
Lost Judgement is a great game....these games don't get the credit and sales they deserve.
Returnal is outstanding but I never got over its rogue gameplay...but appreciate how good the game is.
Rift Apart is a fantastic PS5 game. Great fun.
I won't vote as it's impossible.
@CutchuSlow Good choices. I forgot to mention Tales. Excellent game.
5 - Returnal, crept in after the recent updates. Really superb combat and gameplay loop. Lots of mystery and great level design. Only weak point for me was the story but it nailed the atmosphere perfectly.
4 - Kena Bridge of Spirits, I mean I'm still hung up on the price of some games, this was £32 and is just cracking. Very cutesy, but stronger performances and it just looks like a Pixar movie and gives me heavy platform nostalgia from previous generations.
3 - Ghost of Tsushima, I just can't not include this game. I love the world, it has the most beautiful landscapes and vistas. Story was epic in the right ways and it was just nice to finally have the Samurai game I always wanted.
2 - Death Stranding, first time I played this I was not too fussed. 60 hours later into the Director's Cut and I hate myself for not giving it a go sooner. It has a really enjoyable gameplay loop and if you love the Scottish Hebrides and Iceland it looks fantastic. Performances are strong for what must be near possible to convey to an actor. Music is haunting in all the right ways that can make me feel reflective and pumped at the same time. Truly mind boggling game.
1 - Disco Elysium, erm well as you can see from my profile pic. It just had to be. No game affected me this year the way Disco did. The gameplay what there was is just passable, I had one major bug and I missed seeing facial expressions of the characters etc.. but oh my. Even without that I was there in Martinaise. The setting, the grim dark noir narrative got under my skin. The music was everything, Sea Power (British) have become a permanent fixture in my playlists, thoroughly deserved an award for the soundtrack. More than that even, the humour was right what I needed, I've never laughed so hard at a game. From accidental deaths, to the constant disgrace, to singing out of tune it was just so refreshing. The voice acting was so unique and every character felt so true but with something bubbling beneath the surface.
The world let me escape during a tough year and gave me some memories I'll take with me for the rest of my life. The main thing I'll take though is that a stranger can be the most dependable person you know, it's the man who does the right things always. He wears glasses and an orange jacket. His name is Kim and he's my hero.
Didn't even bother voting, The Artful Escape 😭
Why do I need to vote for five games? Two of which I haven't even played. Just do one per user.
STOP THE STEAL!! The list is missing chernobylite and chorus.
Honestly I don’t really feel like this has been a particularly strong year. Nothing has really grabbed my attention. I liked Guardians of the Galaxy and a couple others. I didn’t get my hands on a PS5 this year but I don’t feel like I’ve missed anything. Next year is looking to be a great year. But it is a lot if of sequels. Even though they look amazing it would be cool to see some more new. Hopefully some cool stuff will be announced at the game awards and maybe E3 next year. In the meantime I’ll keep enjoying the games I have a working on the old backlog. There’s always something to play.
Resident Evil Village is literally the only game on that list I consider to be excellent.
Guardians of the Galaxy. Because it is metal!
I’m beginning to question my gamer credentials; I’ve played none of the games on this list…
I've not enjoyed a game more than when I last played Cyberpunk 2077 back in January.
I never count re-releases, if I did, though, Yakuza: Like a Dragon would be my Game of the Year but while it didn't hit PS5 until this year it was still a 2020 release for PS4. With that out of the running...
1. Resident Evil: Village
2. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. Lost Judgment
5. Tales of Arise
A bit tricky this year, as most of the good titles this year were ones I either hadn’t played, or played on another platform, so I expanded the criteria and ended up with the following: Deathloop, Mass Effect, Psychonauts 2, Returnal, and The Great Ace Attorney.
That said, I do wish there were two different polls; one for best game, another for most favourite, as they really are two separate things.
@Sammy hey where is little nightmares 2 I dont see it on the list
1. Village
2. Guardians
RE Village by far, adored the game and its easily my favourite RE game. As for the other 4 well its hard because other then Returnal the other 3 are either Switch or Xbox games.
@PVTHudsonson I easily had Disco Elysium there in the 5 but I owned it day 1 on PC, it doesn’t feel right having it as number one! Although Final Cut really is fantastic and adds a lot. Kim is an angel, loved seeing him let loose and disco dance!
@Ilovecoffee @Saltborne The majority comes from people that haven’t played it or never will. Shame, as it’s brilliant.
I wish you fixed your poll system and let us choose how many we want to pick. I had to randomly pick games to reach 5, so the results might not make sense.
Wait!? Did Miles morales not make the cut?
Should be allowed to pick Returnal five times and only Returnal five times.
@Rhaoulos agreed it's a bit strange. I think it should only be one. Personally, I picked four other games I knew wouldn't win so I don't add points to games that might beat my first choice (Returnal) like Resi Village or Ratchet and Clank.
@get2sammyb Its not the worst thing. Because now, 2022 looks to be that year!
@PVTHudsonson well said, friend. Well said
@ericG909 came out November 2020
Please make this 'Up to 5' next time. Otherwise people have to vote for games that they haven't played or aren't their favourites.
This list is basically 'best selling games/games with best marketing' if lots of people haven't played many games on it.
I would have voted for Disco Elysium and Mass Effect. I played Ratchett but wasn't blown away with it, and I enjoyed the demos for Tales and Voice of the Cards
Astro's playroom. Why in God's name was that left off of the poll??
@Jimmer-jammer
Exactly what I was going to say. I thought the ending was great and sets up some different, very cool directions Resident Evil 9 could go with the story and main playable character(s) but I could see why some may not love it.
Can u do a disappointment of the year as well?
Cause tales.of arise deserves all top three places.
Lost judgment is best. Returnal a good second.
@get2sammyb
I'd still it was one of the best first years, beat the hell out of PS3 and certainly 4, anyway. Could've been even better with just one of those 3 games, and I still say Horizon Forbidden West should've made 2021. Disappointed with the turn around time and when I look at what Insomniac has done for PlayStation since 2016, three years before it became a Sony first party, it makes me even more disappointed in Guerrilla.
@Royalblues can you please elaborate on the impact it had in a genre where advaces and impact are hard to achieve?
For years I wanted to get into fighting games but it is hard and discouraging.
I only played a small fraction of the titles on this list. And there are probably more than 5 great titles here. Anyway my picks in no particular order:
@Dreman99 it came out last year
Returnal!!! Don’t snub it
@Anti-Matter next level stuff Anti-Matter. Why not go a bit harder and try some Cites skylines?
Hi there fellow gamers.
My personal GOTY is Returnal. That´s it.
What? Four more votes? Okay.
Honorable mentions are Deathloop, Kena: Bridge of Spirits and Death´s Door.
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming to us all
For me :
Deathloop
Metroid Dread
Forza Horizon 5
Tales Of Arise
Hades
I'm guessing Halo Infinite would have appeared had I played it, reviews have been stellar, can't wait to play it
I "played" 5 of those, but only 4 to any great degree.
For me number 1 is very close between Ratchet and Clank and GOTG...maybe Ratchet just shades it.
3. Returnal
4. FFVII Remake Intergrade
5. Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut (hardly played this, will do soon!)
Two from last year I played through and enjoyed a lot this year are A Plague Tale: Innocence and Immortals: Fenyx Rising
@Saltborne If you are talking about Tales of Arise, in my play-through I never switched primary characters. Combat is fun; but most of the other characters are awkward to control (slow ability times; sluggish movement, etc...). When you play through the solo challenges in the arena you will get a feel for each character. Unless you are trying to min/max you don't get any benefit from controlling one character vs another, just use the one that feels more enjoyable to you in combat.
The story and gameplay isn't going to blow you away; but it's still enjoyable and has its moments and fun twists.
@Saltborne I too only use One character. Maybe I'm playing it wrong too lol
@themcnoisy psh.. you and your logic 😉
Kind of a toss up between Death's Door and Pyschonauts 2 for me. I think DD is a better game, but Psychonauts' storytelling and characters really elevate it beyond the decent but not great platformer it is.
My top 5 were rounded out by Guilty Gear Strive, Persona 5 Strikers and Cyber Shadow.
I only played a couple other new games this year, Knockout City, Dodgeball Academia and Bowser's Fury. The latter of which might make my top 5, I think it's a great twist on 3D Mario. Big, but not bloated big like Odyssey.
Shockingly, Guardians of the Galaxy was my GOTY. I was expecting it to be a good time, but I didn't know it was going to look and sound so good and that the story would hit so hard. I honestly liked this version of the group better than the MCU.
@get2sammyb Not really the best way to do a poll like this. Limit it to 5 but you should be able to vote for fewer to get a reliable result. What you'll end up with is the results of the few people who have played at least 5 games released this year or have votes thrown away towards games a person hasn't played.
@MikeHiscoe We're looking to improve this next year so that the votes can be weighted properly. We just didn't have enough time to implement that this time sadly.
@Gamer83 yeah, I found it to be a good payoff, and like you say, leaves the series in a good place moving forward!
@LazyLombax Honestly, co-op is exactly what RaC needs for the next game. I know a fair number of people that dropped Rift Apart (seems shocking, I know), but I think co-op could’ve held their attention.
@ShogunRok You meant Ghost of Tsushima.
For me the best game this year has been Tales of Arise by far, such a good game and absolutely breath of fresh air for the series. My next four were, Ratchet and clank, Resident evil village, Nier Replicant and Persona 5 Strikers
@get2sammyb You should change the limit to 3 games at least.
gotta be GTA trilogy: DEFINITIVE edition for me...😉
Failing that, Returnal or Village
@nessisonett resident evil village turn terrible? Sure Jan
@Zombiechris I literally finished it yesterday and it was great. Read my comment again you absolute f***ing imbecile.
Originally it was RE Village. But then FFXIV Endwalker came out, and changed my year.
My personal PS5 game of the year would have to go to Guardians of the Galaxy.
Just because I had an absolute blast with it.
Followed very closely by Resident Evil Village.
I also really enjoyed Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, and Jurassic World Evolution 2.
Returnal for me takes the top spot. Hands down.
Utterly brilliant game which I just could not stop playing.
So hoping for DLC with that teaser last week.
Resident evil village is also a cracking game. I’ve only just licked it up for an utter bargain price £23 in the end of year PS5 sale.
I’m on my second play through now. It’s fantastic.
I have to ask.. where the hell is demons souls remake bro?? !! Easily the best game released in the last year !
@nessisonett I'm in the same position. Almost done with the factory so not far to go I think. I have to say I really like the factory section and I think it breaks the res curse of terrible last 2/3 hours. It's genuinely scared me, the industrial sci/fi aesthetic is really creepy.
Shame, MBTL isn't there. I've played an absurd amount of Melty Blood since it launched this year - easily my GOTY.
Surely Demon souls should be on the list since it was released at the end of last year. I got a PS5 a couple of weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. It's very similar to Bloodborne. Game of the year for me.
I usually give up on tough as nails games but I love Returnal.
My number 1.
I would have voted Returnal 5 times if I could.
@jcvandan
I actually liked RE 7's end-game section with Mia more than most people did, but no doubt the factory in RE Village is better. Might've been my favorite part of the game though I also really liked Castle Dimitrescu and House of Beneviento.
@commentlife Agreed.
It's worth 5 votes each.
Can't wait to see what Housemarque have instore for us next year.
@Gamer83 yeah the castle was great, classic Resident Evil location. Would have liked more of the puzzle stuff but even so very atmospheric.
@jcvandan
Would definitely like to see some more puzzles in future RE games but it doesn't seem like something the devs want to do. They still have some but it's not like the days of the old-school entries.
Didn't play much of the newer games released this year but the ones I enjoyed are RE Village, Tales of Arise (which I haven't finished yet) and Ender Lillies, which might be a hidden gem of this year since not a lot of people are talking about it but it's such a fantastic metroidvania game.
I voted for these 5 games, despite not owning/playing Ghost of Tsushima or Guardians of the Galaxy yet.
My Top 5 Games List:
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (PS5)
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (PS5)
Kena: Bridge of Spirits (PS5)
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (PS5)
Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut (PS5)
I selected 5 because of the rules, but i would have stopped at 3. And only one of those 3 was released only on on PS5, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, the other 2 are multiplatforms.
Quite a dry year for Playstation exclusives this 2021 was...
@Saltborne
Now that I've seen more of it, and that it's not just a other Indie roguelike or soulslike, I am far more i.terested in it though.
@Medic_Alert Thanks! I swore it came out this year 😅
@nessisonett turn it off and it won't ruin the game
sheesh - so many people in these comment sections seem bored of games, yet are invested enough to be in here typing? Weird.
I've had one of the best years ever playing games, and I've been doing it since the original Atari VCS and spent 20 years developing them. Not bored yet, and very hard to be with so many excellent and interesting titles coming out.
There's a big difference between hype and really good, but sometimes the two come together and that makes a specail game for me. On PS5 this year I've loved Reternal, GOT directors cut, Ratchet, Guardians & Control. I do also run a 3090 PC and a series X, but other than playing about with a few indies on game pass, I've not played anything that would deserve a vote - I thought FH5 might for a while, but its actually a bit disappointing after the first week and I cant vote for anything that you need to play @30fps on the latest machines - its just not right! I guess I'll be trying Halo (be rude not too), but I'm not expecting to be blown away..
I've had a great year for games this year and I've loved having a PS5 or two as myself and my wife have had such fun playing them.
Much as I've enjoyed this year - next year looks even hotter. Its a good time to be a gamer...
@themcnoisy
I am different.
My gaming choice is also different.
That's why I choose My Universe Puppies and Kittens since I like to play kids games a lot.
@Royalblues Thank you so much for the long and informative answer, I really appreciate you writing all of this.
@nessisonett daddy is here
