Another Gamescom Opening Night Live has come and gone, with Geoff Keighley's latest showcase being... a moderate success, we'd say. In our recent poll, readers were torn between calling the event "good", "poor", and just "okay" — but today, we're not here to judge the show as a whole. Instead, we want to know which PS5 title impressed you most during Gamescom Opening Night Live.
Tempering expectations before the show, Geoff made it clear that there would be a focus on upcoming games, as opposed to big announcements. And he was right to do so, really, because the thing was packed with titles we already knew about, most of them offering up new trailers, gameplay footage, or release dates.
If you need a refresher on what was shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live, be sure to give our round up a read:

Killing floor 3.
Crimson Desert. So it better be real 😆 because it looks absolutely insane (or maybe too good to be true?)
It somehow managed to look like The Witcher, Assassin's Creed, Elden Ring, RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, Kingdom Come Deliverence, and even TotK all rolled up in to one. (Almost like they've just created a trailer using things that resemble other games but within their engine, rather than it being complete flowing gameplay)
On second watch too, I saw a bird weirdly glide into a waterfall, and that just looked really suspicious. I want to get really hyped for this game, but I'm so very wary all the same
Tekken 8. Finally a release date!
Thank Goodness You're Here! What else?
Really loved the look of Crimson Desert...
But I honestly think it's as concrete as a mirage so I'm not exactly getting my hopes up. Big vaporware vibes
I’ll go with Tekken 8.
Black myth and crimson desert looked the best and most interesting by far.
But can they live upto it is the question
It was a close one between Granblue Fantasy Relink and Crimson Desert but I went with Granblue. I've been looking forward to that game for far too long now and it finally got a concrete release date.
Graphics win the day i see , my vote goes to thank goodness youre here.
Loads of good ones! But I chose Alan Wake 2.
@Dom_31 Granblue isn't developed or published by Bamco.
Granblue Fantasy runs away with this for me.
Also I don't know if it actually part of Gamescom, but Project Mugen looks sick as hell.
Alan Wake 2 for me. Mortal Kombat 1 had one of the best character trailers they’ve had so far though. Sonic and Tekken had solid trailers, but we didn’t get anything mind bending. Wukong looked wonderful as usual, but I still have no idea how to feel about the game.
I think it’s interesting that Crimson Desert is topping the poll, given the developer being a live service developer and the trailer literally looking like a series of high-end visual gameplay nods to other games that are great. Perhaps I’m more skeptical than most?
No Rebirth showing was disappointing, but it’s not like I need to see any more footage to know I’m getting the game anyway!
@Dom_31 They make the "Tales of" games so most likely your thinking of Tales of Arise which was their latest game.
Crimson desert. black myth wokong.and granblue fantasy relink . and lords of the fallen.word up son
Cyberpunk is going to be fun to dive back into.
Tough choice between Lords of the Fallen and Crimson Desert...
I like both games, but for the trailers presented at Gamescom, I have to give it to Crimson Desert.
The game has many inspirations from various other big IP's, and there are quite a few details peppered in that trailer, you don't even notice or properly process them on first or even second watch... a few examples:
@Shinnok789 best bush gameplay I've seen in a game 🤣 I genuinely hope that's something you can do whilst exploring, rather than a cutscene.
I want to get so hyped for this game, because it could be one of those that tries everything and ends up setting a standard for some things. I hate in games when bushes either have no mass, and you can just float through, or when they have giant invisible boxes where you can't even get close. But then, there's probably a reason for it, it seems like it would take a lot of effort to make every bush in a game react like a legitimate real world bush, considering how massive this game seems to look, and that's where I get suspicious again.
I'm praying for attention to detail in the vain of KCD, but with a AAA budget (they've made $1.6 billion in revenue from Black Desert, apparently, so you never know, they could be genuinely reaching for a place at the AAA table)
Little nightmares 3. I'm more excited for Alan Wake but new reveals show better for me.
@LazyLombax killing floor 2 was so much fun, I platinum it. It's like the only multiplayer platinum i have lol
Let's be transparent here, these are 3rd part multiplatform games. As Sony chose not to show up in any capacity because fan service isn't a priority as long as hardware sales hold steady.
My most anticipated 3rd part title is lords of the Fallen.
However, the best showing games at gamescom I think were Crimson Desert and Black Myth Wukong.
Crimson Dessert 100%
I choose Sonic Superstars, despite I'm not sure I can play Sonic games.
I only pick the kids games.
Tekken 8. Happy to get an official release day for that.
Crimson Desert and Granblue! This may as well have been e3. It was better than the last two State of Plays combined.
Crimson Desert > FFXVI
Tekken 8. The beta was so fun and the game is looking fantastic. I love the look of the new arcade quest mode and glad there's a full story mode as well.
I was there myself yesterday. It was much fun.
Tekken 8 is so awesome.
Starfield looks beautiful.
I already played tekken 8 so the trailer didnt excite me much because im already very hyped but other than that black myth with yet another great trailer and lotf is one to look forward to. Overall good show but nothing amazing
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden! 👍🏼 😸
@LazyLombax yeah it's been a long time coming.
Cyberpunk, the only one I'll play from that list.
