Wow, this has to be one of the most stacked January release schedules we've seen in a long time. The first month of the year is usually a period of peace and quiet as far as new games go, with publishers typically leaning towards February or March release dates. But 2023 is different, and January is pretty much an early indication of just how busy the next 12 months will be.
And because this year is promising so many new games, we want to make a habit of hosting community articles just like this one. Vote for your most anticipated January title in our poll, and then try to maintain your hype levels in the comments section below.

Half between P3P and P4G. Decided to vote P4G since I would have preferred P3F.
Monster Hunter Rise! Just got both platinums for World/Iceborne a few weeks ago. I love the grind in those games.
Nothing in Jan for me honestly. Most interesting perhaps is Forsaken, but I’ll wait for a sale. (Feb is stacked however! Hogwarts, Ishin, and all the PSVR2 stuff!)
Definitely Forspoken for me, I liked the demo apart from the constant chatter. Also looking forward to Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters, Dead Space Remake and Fire Emblem Engage.
One of the best January's in ages for new games.
Wait, Persona 3 and 4 or releasing in January?
Boy they slipped past my radar lol.
Anyways Dead Space Remake takes the cake for me, but I'm definitely looking forward to Persona 3 & 4, Forspoken and the new Spongebob. Oh and I'll have to see how One Piece reviews.
Looking forward to playing MH Rise with the boys, just like old times 😌
It was a close battle between dead space and Forspoken for me. Went with dead space as i am mopping up the collectibles and max security trophies on Callisto Protocol and im keen on some more spacey horror.
Got to say i have quite enjoyed Callisto. Its certainly not scary but fun none the less.
Honestly, quite a few of them but voted for Forspoken. Jan, Feb and Mar are stacked - I don't have time (nor a wallet) to play all the games I want!
None really waiting for Hogwarts Legacy next month ^__^
Dead Space remake, but getting it on Xbox Series X not PS5.
@Lord_Beerus_87 wow congrats man I'm on it get the platinum on Callisto Protocol and honestly the max security difficulty is very tough!
never played Dead Space so I'm looking forward to it.
@Tatarimokke yeh been plugging away. Did you play it through on another difficulty first. As i found knowing where enemy placements are really helps. Plus i only ever use guns as part of the combo. That being said im about to take the lift in chapter 5 which i struggled with in medium security so it may all come unstuck 😅
MH Rise mainly cause Im gonna be playing it along side any game I'm currently playing atm. 2 hunts or three when I don't feel like playing my main game or shooting people in overwatch
But I'm also super excited to finally get to play P4G. That and One Piece Odyssey and Dead Space Remake both are looking amazing too
I’ve always liked the look of Forspoken… and the demo reports of it feeling somewhat similar to the inFamous games have only served to solidify that. Pre-ordered and hopeful it’s what I hope it to be.
Forspoken. No contest. I’ve had this game preordered for like two years. In Luminous we trust.
It's a pretty weak month for my personal tastes but something for everyone I suppose.
Most interested in Forspoken, but hopes aren't higher than an okay game with wasted potential based on the demo and its fairly formulaic open world design and heavily downgraded visuals from original announcement.
Little interest in playing a glow up of a game designed and dated as old as dead space without seeing massive updates to modernize. I suspect it will get decent reviews but for nothing more than being the same game as have many of the remasters cloaked as remakes get critically.
I just don't have interest in paying and essentially voting for the continuing trend of double dipping of old content to turn a quick profit. Hopefully it turns out to be more and Forspoken got more refined before release!
Happy New Year to all
Dead space remake for the win.one of the best games ever made.word up son
Obviously Dead Space but equally Powerwash Simulator too
MH Rise! I'd love to play DS remake too, but it's only available for current gen consoles 😢
Dead Space by a country mile. Nothing on that list is even close for me.
Y'all already know
One Piece Odyssey. I might get the Persona games down the line, but Odyssey's the only January game I'm going to buy at launch. Fingers crossed it'll be worth it.
Dead space for sure. Forspoken when it gets patched in a few weeks because that performance was rough
Dead Space and Dragon Ball Kakarot is ready on XBox and waiting to be installed on 13th
@Lord_Beerus_87 Yeah I really enjoyed The Callisto Protocol despite the mixed reception. It's got me looking forward to Dead Space Remake forsure
I'm really looking forward to Spongebob, love a good 3D platformer.
Am I the only one who voted for PowerWash Simulator? Maybe?
And I’m very confused about the people voting for Forspoken after playing the demo. I mean, it wasn’t terrible or anything, but how anyone could be looking forward to it after listening to the dialogue or navigating the UI for more than 5 minutes is beyond me.
Dead space - clearly.
Forspoken - don't know yet, waiting for the reviews, because the demo deflated the enthusiasm built by the trailers that came before it...
Looking forward to Dead Space and Forspoken after enjoying the demo but my most anticipated for the month easily goes to One Piece Odyssey.
I'll be jumping on the Switch for Fire Emblem primarily this month but I'll definitely end up picking up the two Personas eventually.
Nothing on that list. The next Final Fantasy and the System Shock remake is about it
@Impossibilium bro voted for Power washer lol
Fortunately for me my craziness doesn’t start until June when four of my most excited for games this year come out within two weeks of each other.
January I’m spending clearing up some backlog.
I'm excited for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. I would get it, but I have too many games on backlog right now. I'm trying to Platinum GOW: Ragnarok, so I'll wait a bit before getting DBZ. Maybe it'll go on sale in the coming months to be nearly free by the time I make my way to it.
After playing the Forsaken demo, I quickly realized that the game isn't for me at all, so I'm not interested in any of the games coming out this month. I'll keep my eyes open for deals on other games already out that I don't have.
@Ichiban @Deadlyblack I'm also looking forward to playing SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake! It's my most anticipated January 2023 game.
Planning to play Battle for Bikini Bottom: Re-Hydrated for the first time soon, since I hear Cosmic Shake is a direct sequel to that.
@Lord_Beerus_87 yeah i played both standard and medium security. Normal enemies are fine on maximum security but I have hard times with the four legged monsters. I mostly use gun against them though but they're too quick and there are many of them on your way to the hangar. I always die there. I keep trying though
Persona 3 Portable, P4G, and the Dead Space remake are pretty much the only January games I'm excited for.
@Tatarimokke i just got the plat last night. Beware that the trophy is bugged. If you dont play through on maximum security first time the trophy doesnt pop. There is a fix on Reddit but it includes deleting the game, reinstalling offline, and some save manipulation
Definitely Dead Space for me. But if we could’ve had a second pick, it would have been Persona 4 Golden. Man, I loved that game on Vita.
Monster hunter rise for me. Anyone heard of any news on frame rates etc for the ps5 version, I’m ‘assuming’ it’s 60 🤞
I will speak up for the underdog. Season looks absolutely delightful. I love the art style and the game mechanics look chill. This is the type of game I can get lost in.
@straw-hat-crew World War Z: Aftermath?
Seriously I’m hoping odyssey is good. I’ve just caught up with the manga & was almost tempted to buy Seeker during the January sale.
I don’t get why Naruto & DBZ are the only ones getting great games (I know that Pirate Warriors 4 is meant to be good but too old at this point).
I voted Persona 3 Portable, the game that created modern Persona.
@Mikey856 Yep, locked 60 in the performance mode.
My choice.

I'm different.
One Piece Odyssey and SpongeBob have my eyes for some casual fun. I'll check out Forspoken if it reviews decently and will definitely play P3P and Rise during Feb since that's a slower month for me
@SillyBoyJudas DBZ: Kakarot is a free upgrade from PS4-PS5. Couldn’t you buy the PS4 version for dead cheap and upgrade or am I missing something?
It’s a pretty good game tbh. Ended up getting the platinum. Doesn’t re-invent the wheel, but would be fan servicyyy enough for any fan.
SpongeBob Cosmic Shake for me!
Forspoken: interested but will wait for reviews and betting it will go on sale fast because its not really exclusive.
Dead Space Remake: will play but in no rush.
Out of all these? Probably one piece. What am I actually going to buy though? The new fire emblem and that's probably it for this month. Relatively weak month for me, since I still own the persona games and can pull out the ol vita if I ever get that particular itch.
Dead Space then Forspoken. But what I'm really looking forward to is PSVR2 the following month 😍
Interestingly enough, I played both Monster Hunter Rise and Persona 4 Golden just last year, so I'm not going to get them again. However, they're both excellent games that I highly recommend.
@ShogunRok music to my ears thanks man
Definitely Dead space.
It could be Persona 4 Golden alone and the month would be a stacked. 100+ hours if you're grabbing everything within.
I'm giving that a wide berth, can't put my life on hold again and I'm jumping on P3P instead lol.
Dead Space, of course. Sony should try and get a PSVR2 first person mode like they did with RE7 & Village.
Forspoken for me. Love the main actress.
For spoken will be a flop. It looks and plays like another boring button masher like God of war or spiderman, jus close your eyes and bash away. Looking forward to deadspace which is why developers are making so many remakes ,coz the games now are pretty shallow, whereas the remakes had so much originality and captivating stories and didn't have to tick boxes like they do now
nothing. i have 25 games on the backlog that are FAR more interesting than any of those listed
you know the industry is in trouble when people get overly excited for shoddy remasters and remakes of 10-year old games. at this point in the console cycle, we should be seeing steady releases of NEW, next gen experiences.
@Bartholumew I agree. Those button mashers like Spider-Man and God Of War are total flops!
I really shouldn't get anything this month because I have bought Elden Ring, which I'll start after I finish up TW3, in the sale as well as a load to play through on the Steam Deck and Switch, but then there is both Personas, MH Rise, Dead Space and Forspoken.
Although Forspoken I'm likely to wait on reviews because as much as I want it to be good, I'm on the fence about it.
I really shouldn't get anything though, not like these games are going anywhere.
Dead Space and Persona 4.
@Bartholumew You think GoW Ragnarok is a button masher? I mean sure if you play on easy but on medium or higher button mashing will get you no where with the toughest enemies in the game.
@WallyWest i came here to say this! Imagine button mashing against Gna or The Berserker King. You would be smashed to pieces.
Forspoken followed very closely by Dead Space. Won't be getting either for awhile yet though, as I've got some games from last year I want to play. Nothing else on the list really interests me.
TLDR; Nothing really, Atomic Hearts looks interesting for February, but there isn't much I'm looking forward to at all right now.
I voted for Dead Space, but to be honest, I'm not really excited for anything. Dead Space is a great game, but I've played it numerous times and playing it again only graphically better (as of now) is just OK.
As with the LoU Part 1 remake, I feel it's a game that didn't need a remake as the original is perfectly fine and still holds up. I would have preferred to see something older and unavailable for play via modern consoles to be remade.
As for Forspoken, my interest was only ever minimal. The story and setting look bland. Visually the game looks nothing like a next gen (current gen) game. It looks more like an early PS4 game to me.
I'm not sure what it is. It could be a combination of things. The in house engine Square Enix uses is outdated and needs vast improvements, and the design of the world is ugly. The reveal was much more appealing, and the actual game is just another case of a major downgrade from the reveal footage. I'm beyond tired of seeing that scenario. It's basically false advertisement in my eyes.
I feel the game is too drab and brown. I would expect vibrant colors and more fantastical design coming from Square Enix. It's like the latest Sonic game. Why is a talking anthropomorphic blue hedgehog put in an ugly representation of a more realistic world? The designs clash, are ugly, and just make me lose interest.
The parkour was the real reason I was interested in Forspoken. The demo was ok, but the game desperately needs customizable controls. I feel now that consoles have customizable controls at the system level, developers have grown lazy again in offering ways of customizing controls. Console wide control changes are annoying because it changes everything, even traversing the console menus. If consoles can save customized settings on a per game basis, then I would no longer complain...much.
So far this entire new generation is lackluster. Covid or not, new games are just playing it safe and I miss the old days of being wowed by the concepts brought about in games when a new generation hits. I dont know, maybe I'm just old and jaded now. 🤷♂️
Wonder Boyyyyy, what is the secret of your power…
@KundaliniRising333 you need to do more research instead of talking *****. first off dead space remake is actually a remake, not a glow up there adding in more features including actual npcs instead of the logs and whatnot. on top of the next gen only visuals. also the demo of forspoken only made me want to play it more not less lmao
Dead Space. Been playing it again on PC over Christmas and its even better than I remembered from my first play thru 13 years ago.
Stunning game, can't believe EA managed to faff up the franchise with microtransactions. Lets hope they don't do it again with the remake.
Im looking for A Space for the Unbound, looks incredible and relaxing to play. Maybe One Piece Odyssey, but I`ll wait for the reviews.
Solid month, dead space, forspoken and the new SpongeBob game. The PS4 SpongeBob remake was surprisingly good
@Fight_Teza_Fight I only have a PS5. But it's currently $15 in the PS Store. Am I able to buy the PS4 version on PS5 and then upgrade it? Let me know. I've only had mine since October, so this might be something I am not aware of.
It's pretty weak when the most outstanding game seems to be a Spongebob title, but there you go I guess.
@SillyBoyJudas So I don’t have a PS5, but on my physical PS4 copy it says free PS4 to PS5 upgrade.
On the Bandai Namco page:
Upgrade from PS4™ to PS5™
If you have already purchased the PS4™ version of "Dragon Ball Z: KAKAROT", you can upgrade for free. Upgrades are free for both the main game and DLC. Details on the upgrade procedure will be announced on the official website at a later date.
Also the PushSquare article confirming it:
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/09/dragon-ball-z-kakarot-gets-free-upgrade-to-enhanced-ps5-version-in-2023-second-season-of-dlc
Just note that if you buy the PS4 version now, you will not be playing the PS5 version just yet. You have to wait for the PS5 patch to be released which is this Friday (13th).
Hope that helps.
Dead Space, although I do have Forspoken also pre-ordered so will see what that turns out to be
@Fight_Teza_Fight thanks dude! This will be so helpful.
