Assassin's Creed has had a lot of ups and downs over the years, but Ubisoft will be hoping that Assassin's Creed Mirage helps steady the ship after an impacted development schedule, and ahead of future instalments like Assassin's Creed Red. Mirage is a return to the series' more traditional formula, with a focus on stealth-based gameplay. After three games' worth of open world RPG adventure, this is what a lot of fans have been asking for — but does it actually hold up?
We were slightly torn in our Assassin's Creed Mirage PS5 review. We gave the title a solid 7/10, concluding: "Assassin's Creed Mirage sets off in search of its roots, and it finds them — both for better and worse. Undeniably basic in its approach to stealth and combat, it feels oddly dated in terms of design, but it's also a refreshing reminder of the series' original strengths."
We've seen similarly divided opinions floating around online, but as always, we want definitive answers in our poll. So score the game yourself — it'll be added to our Best Assassin's Creed Games guide with enough ratings! — and then explain your perspective in the comments section below.

So far an 8. The game is great fun. The story hasn’t exactly hooked me (the characters are
wallpaper thus far), but I’m having a lot of fun just playing it. I like the process of the investigations. I’ve really only had positive feelings playing it. We could all use more simply solid titles like this. I’m happy with it.
Just platinumed it. 8/10.
-1 for the PS5 graphics, at the end of the game some characters look like PS3 graphics...
-1 for not really anything new or anything that try to evolve the franschice. They kind of played it too safe in a way.
If you take that in to account this is a solid fun game all things considered. I got my moneys worth so I'm happy.
I'd give it an 8, the stealth-focused gameplay and investigations are really fun, it's just a pity that the overall story doesn't do much with Basim.
@Peterchu Without spoilers, I thought the story picked up at the end of the game. But I agree, the start and the end was the only parts that really built Basims story overall.
Definitely an 8, sword fighting is a bit poor but i suppose it encourages stealth more.
8/10 from me, while it has faults i do think its a nice love letter to the very first game.
I’m enjoying it so far. I thought the characters were cringe at the start until the early shocking reveal that begins Basim’s journey to becoming an Assassin.
I don’t think it’s radically different to the modern AC games though. Yes, it’s smaller scale (thank god) but it doesn’t feel like the old AC games either. It feels like a weird hybrid of the two.
I can’t rate it yet because I’ve only played a few hours but so far so good.
I loved my time with it! I'd give it 9 myself. My only real criticisms would be the facial animations are pretty rough and the story doesn't really hit until the end (also if you didn't play Valhalla I would imagine the ending probably made no sense for you at all).
I had a blast playing it though. I like the RPG style ones too but if I had to pick I still prefer this style of AC. We simply don't have very many stealth focused AAA games like this anymore so it felt extra fresh coming back to it.
I really hope Ubisoft gives Bordeaux another shot and a bigger budget next time. They seem to have a great grasp on what makes the series so great in the first place.
So far I think this has been very divisive. For those of us that wanted something classic, it feels too bare (not in terms of length but in terms of depth) and not enough was taken advantage of in terms of new mechanics they could add. But most of all the story isn't quite up to what many AC fans have come to expect.
For fans of the RPG series, they absolutely love it! I've seen nothing but praise from newcomers so I'm sure the next and final RPG game set in Japan will do nicely as it'll be fresh and familiar.
Undeniably it's a good game but there's just a lack of depth in there for me
Done probably about 80% of the main story so far and most of collectables. And for me so far, it looks great, but literally all of the characters in the game are just uninteresting. There is no humour with anyone it's just all serious talk.
And although I know the game is meant to be shorter but the beginning section just feels rather rushed.
So about a 6.5/10 for me
@theMEGAniggle Pretty much my issue from what I've seen in reviews. Lack of depth whereas in Vahalla and even Unity for that matter had much more depth.
My brother decided to buy this game against me advising him not to, and I've played about half of it. I give it a 6 so far with it possibly going down to a 5. Average AAA junkfood, but still a quality made product. Overall it's fun.
Stealth is pretty good, story is pretty good, parkour is mid, and combat is absolute cheeks. Combat feels so awful in this game, I get you're meant to be more stealthy, but the choice to STILL use the Origin combat mechanics and have enemies have no reactions from your light attacks, so you just basically wait for parries just feels really bad. It feels worse than the older games if I'm being honest. I hate the combat in this game.
I'd give it a 6.
It's decent, but flawed, & pretty clunky at times (that combat, oh boy!), & I'm quite sure the AI in the old PS2 MGS games was better than what's here!
The world is fun to traverse & the soundtrack can be incredible at times, & I'm enjoying my time for the most part. But I see myself forgetting it the second the credits begin to roll.
For me it's a 9. Love the return to the old AC gameplay. Story was meh in parts but overall I liked it. Not the best graphics but the gameplay offset that. For a budget release, really well done. Ubisoft is one of the few companies that still does these so hopefully it'll be rewarded with good sales numbers and convince the company to try another AC like this in the future.
I would definitely give this a score out of 10!
Its definitely a 8.word up son
More like Ghost from the Past😄
Landed on a 6. It's what I expected going in, but it still took a dive for the first few hours – it just felt too barren, graphics dated, voice-acting dry, story a rehash. Then I settled into the gameplay loop which is enjoyable, and although the story is bland, the linking of leads kind of worked for me. So yeah, not bad.
It's a 7. It's the 7est game of all 7ish games. It is a 7.
I'm enjoying, switching my brain off and listening to podcasts while assassinating some goons, but it's a 7.
7.
@somnambulance I think the story is the weakest part but I just don't like Assassin's Creed stories to begin with. It's annoying that the story is only understandable if you played Valhalla.
@SgtTruth It's an Assassin's Creed game similar to the first one, albeit with some modernizations that may not be great.
@SovietTaters feels like most AC games are tangent in story on whether you’ve played the last one. So far, I think Valhalla had a better story, even though it was a mess, but I’m only like a third of the way into Mirage. To be honest though, most Ubisoft games are world first, gameplay second, with story and characters usually being mid concerns.
