Astro Bot has been available on PS5 for a week now, and you know what that means here on Push Square! Yep, we want you to give Astro's latest adventure a review score.
At the time of writing this article, the game commands the highest Metacritic rating of the year so far — which is beyond impressive. Critics absolutely adore the PlayStation Studios platformer, and so we're very interested in seeing whether you lot agree.
"Astro Bot is a stunning 3D platformer, and easily among the best games in PS5's library," is what we wrote in our full Astro Bot PS5 review. "With tons to see and do, almost endless fresh ideas, innovative use of the DualSense's features, and truly charming presentation, it's a confident and cohesive experience that players of all ages will love," we continued.
"It's a perfect game to celebrate PlayStation's 30th anniversary, reflecting on the myriad series that made the platform what it is today." An incredibly rare Push Square 10/10, by the way.
So, without further ado, we want you to rate Astro Bot. Give it a score in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

Million out of ten.
Looks like a fun game, will 100% pick it up when the price drops a bit.
Just a reminder that the ratings directly influence our 'Best Games' lists, so try to be honest with your score!
Definitely a 10. 2024 goty!
Easiest 10 I've ever given. It would be my game of the year if Final Fantasy VII Rebirth didn't cheat by existing.
I gave it a 9, if they fix the save bug so I feel safe to see more of it without losing my progress, I'll give it a 10...
This is one of those games which come every three to five years and REALLY feel like a 10.
Easy 10.
One of the very best platformers Ive ever played.
Team Asobi is the fututre for Playstation Games now.
Every level has something brilliant and fun about it. Tbh I think it's even better than mario wonder, there is more to it. Some levels even remind me of when I played mario 64 the first time as they have so much originality it makes me laugh out loud.
Granted platformers are tried and tested, and this game borrows a lot from other games, but there is enough originality that makes it one of the best platformers for the last 20 years. It plays amazingly well too and is very well programmed to help you out. Not too frustrating, except the harder levels but as they should be!
I mean yeah it's clearly a ten. If I'm being honest it probably hasn't had the same impact on me as Astro's Playroom, that completely blew me away. But it's still a ten.
One of the easiest 9's I've ever given. Minor quibbles aside, I adore Astro Bot.
Amazing, but too short for it's price tag.
Lost the 10/10 because a $60 game should be above ~10 hours imo.
10/10 for me, such a pure fun game and massive nostalgia trip that's persuaded me to downlaod a play a lot of older games.
Astro is right up there with ReBirth and Stellar Blade for my GOTY.
10 for me easy! I was playing deaths door (which is amazing.. do you guys know similar type games?) but this brings me back to the good old days of platformers
Hands down a 10!
Mostly great, most levels were great, but found that some of the challenge levels were more annoying than fun.
I gave it 10 but I would have given it 9.5if I had that option.
Very fun, great soundtrack and it makes me smile
10/10.
The most joyful and creative game that I've played outside of Nintendo in modern gaming.
8/10 for me. Too many of the challenge levels create "difficulty" by making the next obstacle impossible to see. Splashing Sprint is genuinely awful.
It's very good but it ain't Mario.
Went 9/10 but being really picky
But only about 28% through.
But definitely the AAA game I have been waiting for this year.
@VaultGuy415 Yeah Splashing Sprint was rage inducing, that level and the last Crumble Rumble level are what stopped me from getting 100%.
C'mon. 74% gave 10/10! You cant be serious!
I am going 9/10 and only because i don’t love the use of motion controls at times even tho they are mostly well done here. Also a few difficulty spikes that are a little rude. But overall this is a great game that didn’t need a load of patches to get it working day 1. GOTY so far for me and should likely win it.
Solid-ass 9. It'd probably be a 10 if it accomplished significantly more than Super Mario Galaxy did 15 years ago.
Also, as a platforming vet, it was all around an easy-breezy experience. Which I don't think is necessarily 'bad,' but I personally prefer a bit more bite to my platformers.
It’s a 10 simple as that, loved every minute. Finally got my platinum today, been taking my time as didn’t want it to end. I will say the last master level took me a good half an hour to beat
It’s a 9 for me, and that’s not to take anything away from the game because it is an incredible game and was really fun to play (my kids love it too) but to give it a 10 would mean putting alongside some of my all time greatest video games and it’s not quite there for me.
It’s like a 9.5 for me, not quite 10 so I voted 9. The levels where you have to move the controller around to aim didn’t really click with me, otherwise no complaints. Fantastic game.
It's been a long time since a 3D platformer really just blew me away. The last time was probably Mario Galaxy 1 back on the Wii. Astro Bot got there and honestly maybe even surpasses it!
The easiest 10 I've given since Persona 5 Royal. Team Asobi absolutely nailed it from top to bottom. Truly a GOAT here.
I’d say a 9/10 (9.5 if I could do half points). I’m really loving every minute of it, but I’ll be honest that I’ve got one pet peeve for the game. The collectathon aspect of getting the bots sort of forces replays or meticulous combing through levels. On one hand, that’s really fun to do and I do actually like to do it, but on the other hand, levels have a gatekeeper from this. Yeah, I know, Mario and his stars and all that, but I just personally liked having collectors be more optional in Playroom. It didn’t stop me from going back. The way they are in Astro Bot activates some of my OCD. That’s a me thing though.
Game is otherwise perfect. Best game since my one two punch of beating Balatro and Rebirth the same day this year and by a wide margin. It’s almost certainly going to be in my top 5 this year, even with a dense next five weeks of big releases.
Easily 10/10
It’s the best chill game I can ask for ❤️
Ahhhhh the classic "abysmal" voter eh? I voted a 9 but it would be a 9.5 if i could.
One of the easiest 10s I’ve ever given
Best platformer we’ve EVER got from PlayStation, easily a 10/10.
@WizzNL A total hater lol, it’s so a 10/10. Easily as good as Super Mario Odyssey and that is a high bar of fun and quality
The 1% guy/s giving it a 1 at current time must be a John Galvin fan
@Sanquine If you like Deaths Door, I recommend Tunic
@UltimateOtaku91 I just beat Splashing but only because of a tip from when I looked up reddit posts from others mad about it
For my money, Pacific Drive is GOTY
Im flying home tonight after 2 weeks holiday, so at least this will get rid of the holiday blues 🤣🤣. Actually cant wait to play this, havent put anything in score yet but im guessing it will be a 9 or 10 once i do play it. My 4yr old nephew probably more exited than me to play it tomorrow as well, he even sent me a video last week asking when its out and can we play it when ur back 🤣🤣
I'm fairly picky when it comes to 3D platformers. I tend to like the 3D platformers that strike a good balance between open exploration and actual platforming challenges. I feel like many platformers dont get this balance quite right
For instance, Crash Bandicoot leans far too heavily into the platforming aspect and almost feels on rails. But on the other hand games like Mario Odyssey focus almost soley on the exploration and often foregos platforming in favor of gimmicks and prolonged scavenger hunts.
I believe games like Mario Galaxy perfectly strike the balance between exploration and actual designed platforming challenges. And Astro Bot lands successfully in this camp in my opinion. It's my ideal 3D platformer and is easily the best one that I've played since Mario Galaxy 2. 9/10. (I'd give it a 10 but it loses a point for splashing sprint)
I think i only need the bird levels left but it's been a complete blast the whole way thru so far so easy 10. The only complaints might be that it needs a little more enemy variety and difficulty. The challenge levels they do have tho are so fun, haven't felt any of them to be unfair. Music is fantastic. Every area is fun to run around in and explore. Most bosses have been really fun to fight. And ofc the crossover of multiple 1st and 3rd party ips puts a smile on my face. I only wish they were able to get Square Enix ips too
I know it'd be difficult to achieve but it'd be so amazing if they could also get the rights to use different ips' universes to create levels along with their bots too. The ones that are in the game have been some of my favorites
It's a 9 or a 10 for me, not quite as good as Mario Galaxy but close.
I’d give it a 9.5. Ding it slightly for some of the levels. If not for that, would be a 10.
Easily a 10. Might be my favorite PS5 game, but I'll wait until I complete it and have let it sink in for a week or two before saying that definitively.
I can't score it because to me it's a kids game so for kids I'd say 10/10 however for me personally it's just not my thing
@HonestHick the circle and square challenges?
@nedbvai Nah, Astro Bot is for everyone. Weird take
Astro Bot is excellent, I gave it a 9. My only real complaint is that I would love to see a lot of the unique mechanics iterated upon more.
When the reviews popped up I was expecting people to exaggerate. It obviously wasn't gonna be bad or even mediocre. But GOTY material? My cute little robot platformer?
Well, I'm about two thirds into the game - 200ish out of the 304 bots saved - and I gotta say.
This is ACTUALLY game of the year material. The cynic in me wants to attribute that to an absolute dogs*** 2024. Rebirth was great, DD2 was fun but ultimately failed to do what we were told it would.. Uh, what else released this year? Wukong, ig, no interest. I love ZZZ but it's not really a GOTY contender, I'd say.
But Astro Bot does nothing wrong. It's just doing it's thing, which is being pleasant and cute. And it NAILED that. It's a joy to play, there's even a couple challenges to be had here and the bosses are great examples of how you can take Mario's base and improve aspects of that (Mario games suck at doing bosses, without exception)
All the little animations, the music, THE LEVEL DESIGN..it's just a good ass platformer in an industry where we only get indie shlock and 1 (one) Nintendo platformer every couple years if we're lucky. The last good 3d platformer we had was either Kirby Forgotten Land or Crash 4, both released YEARS ago.
I legit hope this shows all those AAA devs that there's a market not only for lower budget projects but also platformers with AAA quality outside of Nintendo's ecosystem. If Astro Bot isn't a success it's only because people have bad taste and Sony could've marketed it even harder lol
Godspeed, cute little robot game. Hope you clean house during award season.
If 10 is outstanding/ masterpiece it's definitely a 10. If it meant perfect it would be close but not quite as nothing is perfect.
It's pure joy and everyone I've seen play it does it with a big smile. How can you argue with that?
I've not wanted to play anything else since it came out and I'm savouring it
Thirty seconds of the character's cutsie yips and yahs were all I could take - they're like nails on a chalkboard. I couldn't even watch the entirety of the gameplay demo. I'm glad there's a game out there with broad appeal, but it's just not for me. I didn't vote in the poll as I didn't play it.
9/10.
I would give very few games a 10, genre-defining titles, and Astro is not quite that. But it is rock-solid and a joy to play. It's the next-best thing to a proper 3D Mario game. On PlayStation 5 it is peerless as a 3D platformer.
It's a short-list GOTY candidate to me.
I'd give it an 8, personally.
Very fun game, but I can't say it's a particularly memorable one either, the epitome of very-good-not-great IMO.
Plus I personally don't like type of level design of "this is the rain level, and now this is the snow level, and now this is the sand level" with zero interconnectivity that it went for.
I’m literally moving a couple of games I have finished onto the external hard drive right now to install it.
Game failed to deliver it on release date but arrived yesterday.
Finished Ghost of Tsushima over the weekend and played through the epic Mickey demo so I’m currently moving those across
9/10, a fantastic game that for me ditches it's best ideas too quickly, (I'm looking at you mouse power up) and isn't quite up there with a certain plumber.
That said, it's the best game I've played this year and the most fun I've had on PS5, with some outstanding levels and great use of other IP.
More of these please
Whoever put 1 is a sad pathetic troll
Did you need to ask this?
@rusty82 All till 8 included are
When the only nitpick I can muster is the inability to adjust the audio settings, it’s safely a 10/10 game for me.
a 10 purely for the fact that I had so much fun with it
GOTY so far for me
Very happy to see all of the 8, 9 and 10s, sometimes games review really well but then the masses get a hold of it and things drop down to 6s and 7s.
Weird how I keep reading in the comments about people giving it low scores but my "Results" button doesn't show a single score under a 6, which is really impressive.
Haven't played it yet, can't justify $60 for a 10 hour game when Plucky Squire comes out next week for $30, which I'll be playing for only $15 on PS+ Extra, but glad to have something to look forward to.
Cleaning up the last few trophies today. Luckily, I have not experienced any of the bugs that have been described, and this game has been an absolute delight. Most of the levels are fairly easy but still felt satisfying to complete. The challenge levels have posed some greater difficulty than I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise.
Nice to see no one voted Abysmal like usual.
@Tchunga weird? No it's for kids! I'm 23 I wouldn't play this neither would any of my friends. Its absolutely a kids game.
Probably the best platformer I've played, so I rated it 10.
@rjejr Not that it'll probably do much to justify the price for you, but it took me 17 hours to completely finish the game.
@nedbvai It's not just for kids, it's just not for you, which is fine.
Personally I wouldn't give it a 10 but it's definitely a good game. It makes you wish Nintendo would use this kind of technology for the next Mario game instead of always being a generation behind!
Had no real interest in it prior to release and was even pretty snarky about it. Bought it because of the reviews and yeah 10/10 and easily my GOTY and i was a fool for having no interest.
@Sergo I can see people who don't like platform games giving it 7 or less but why play and rate something you had no prospect of liking?
The person who put 1 is likely a bitter fan boy
Easy 10. Love the way every level feels different, and technically its fantastic.
I just hope it sells well to encourage Sony and others to take a few more chances on the types of game they make.
Absolutely love it, just closing in on the end now and it been a total joy (even if the controller button planets made me shout a bit 😄)
Really hoping we do get some DLC, because I just know I’ll be craving more past the end credits!
It's an excellent game, there's no disputing that.
My one and only gripe with it are the boss fights.
And no, not for me, but for kids.
The game has a 7+ rating, yet the bosses are rather difficult for small children, and has no option to change it.
If they get to die close to the end of the last phase of a boss for example, well tough! They have to do the boss all over again from the very start. On repeated deaths, the fights become frustrating for them.
Even some of the higher age rating games include some helping elements the player receives after repeated deaths... or include checkpoints after each boss phase. I would have liked to see them do something similar in Astro, given its age rating. At least as an option disabled by default, that can be activated if needed.
Other than that, the game is awesome, bright, colorful and fun, with lots of secrets and hidden items to discover! Best 70 euros I've spent on a game in a long time!
@nedbvai
Not just a kids game - I suspect the average age of people enjoying it and giving this a 10 or 9 is significantly older than you are, and I certainly am older.
If its not your type of game thats absolutely fine (we all have our tastes), but labelling it a kids game is just wrong.
In fact, a lot of the references / easter eggs in this game are aimed at people older than children.
9/10. A few niggles stop it being 10/10.
Astro just doesn't have the same nuance and control as Mario does in the Galaxy games. There's a distinct lack of enemies. It's a celebration of PlayStation, sure, but it also feels like a giant advert at times. And some of those adverts are for abandoned franchises - yes, I am a Wipeout fanboy and yes again, I am salty about how they've treated the franchise.
Most egregious is the regular levels are brain-dead easy to the point where they're (at times) unengaging. Even the challenge levels aren't particularly challenging.
But it is brimming with creativity, joy, wonderful visuals and audio. I sincerely hope Sony wake up to the fact that we need more games like this.
@nedbvai Garbage take. That's like saying a Pixar movie is only for kids. And the irony of you saying that yourself and your friends are 23 and wouldn't play this - 23 years olds are very much still children.
GOTY without a shadow of a doubt, just amazing in everyway.
I'm 46. I sold my Super Nintendo to get a Playstation when they first released. I've ben a Sony fanboy ever since and I have had so many fantastic experiences.
This game reminds me of so much of it. It is also simply a sharp, clean, bright game full of absolute joy. There are so many tiny, beautiful details!
I like my big stompy shooters and serious RPGs. Those games make me feel powerful and important, but this game makes me feel happy.
It's a 10 and anyone who thinks otherwise needs a kick up the ass.
@Shinnok789 You're aware that the age rating is entirely to do with how appropriate the themes and content are for children, and absolutely nothing to do with the difficulty, right?
I'm giving it a 9 because some of the powers only showed up once while others overstayed their welcome. All levels are super solid though and lots of fun!
Easy 10 for me, it’s the best game I’ve played all year.
@Diowine I can agree on this. Took me 16hrs to get the plat. I wonder how fast I vould rush through it...
@MrPeanutbutterz You're missing the point, but that's ok.
@somnambulance
You cant do half points. 😂
@nedbvai Well, you and your friends have some pretty weird takes then, I hate to say it
10 out of 10 would definitely Astro Bot again.
Only 2 galaxies in, but so far it’s an absolute 10/10. So inventive and joyful, and just the right level of challenge with plenty of casual fun but also tricky hidden bots and tougher platforming levels. 100% my game of the year, with Stellar Blade a close second.
The easiest 10 I've ever gave to a game. Only in the first galaxy, but it's so much fun in every possible aspect.
If it wasn't for Stellar Blade, this would be my goty.
Seems a shame only readers of this site seem to have a bought it. Hope it didn’t cost too much to make!
An easy 10 for me. 10 isn't a perfect game, as those don't exist, but it is just sooo freaking fun to play, and judging by the size of my smile while playing, it definitely deserves a 10.
I should have voted 0 just to be the only one troll on this poll
@Blofse It’s better than Mario Wonder, agree. After a week with it I don’t think it hits the heights of either Galaxy game or Odyssey though. It’s still fabulous mind.
I can only give it a 9. It is very very good, but it's not perfect. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and have only noticed 2 small bugs, but I find myself needing to take a break from it because of the sounds. Astro's voice gets bloody annoying after a while. I REALLY wish there was an in-game volume control. Then I'd be complaining I can't give a 9.5!
@LiamOliver I've the same complaint about this too. And Horizon. And God of War.
@Shinnok789 Your post is about the difficulty the kiddos had with the game and mention age ratings three times... so what was your point that I missed, exactly?
My second favorite game after Rebirth which is probably my favorite game this generation. Both are absolutely bangers.
@MrPeanutbutterz I'm a child am I? Lol I own my own business mate definitely not a child! That's the weirdest comment I have ever seen saying a 23 year fully grown man is a child.
@Tchunga kids game not normal for frown men to be playing this. I'm getting the word..
Astro bot is a masterpiece a 9 out of 10.word up son
@Shinnok789 the games that 7 year olds used to play back in the nes/snes era would break laughing about Astro bot's difficulty.
Personally I am very disappointed in how beloved franchises (Pokemon, Mario f.ex) have left out any kind of challenges for people being afraid that kids get
"frustrated".
7 year old's also can beat the hell out of me in online shooters.
Assuming that kids can't handle a game like Astro Bot feels like too much. They are even beating Shadow of the Erdtree. Don't underestimate them.
It is just reinforcing the "Crystal generations" concept. Challenge is good. Becoming so easily frustrated shouldn't.
The way games are rated today, it’s the easiest 10/10 you can get.
In old school game ratings it’s a,
GRAPHICS 93
SOUNDS 95
PLAYABILITY 99
LASTABILITY 73
OVERALL. 90
Or
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Or
Easy 9//10. I would like a little more exploration.
Honestly, 9.5 though I voted 10. I have nitpicks around select design decisions and technical issues such as some odd instances of buggy physics. Otherwise a fantastic game though. Enough for me to grind Platinum.
I haven't found anything I don't like about it. It's bizarre and joyous, like the best of Nintendo and PS1 era Sony. That happens to be my favorite kind of game!
@Diowine Shrug.
My kids play a ton of harder games and some easy stuff as well. The whole "snowflake" thing is just more culture war nonsense meant to divide people. Big strong manly men worried about the sanctity of Disney Princesses and Star Wars (to be redundant).
@nedbvai Ahuh sure, cause it sure sounds like a 13 year old trying to insist upon some imagined manhood honor.......
10/10. The game is pure fun for all generations of gamers, but especially so for longtime Playstation fans (all the cameos from staple PS franchises brought tears to my eyes). I have just downloaded all the Ape Escape games to my ROG Ally as a direct result of enjoying the Ape Escape level so much. More of this and less of live service please!
@Daleaf I'm very much looking forward to going away with my wife for a few days coming up. It's much needed. Comes up the day after Zelda hits. Going to be a good one.
I started with a 6 or a 7, just done the god of war level and I'd give it 10 now.
Funny as hell.
I would give it a 10/10 but the score doesn't matter when the majority of PS fans doesn't support this game :/
It really is a carbon copy of Mario though. I’ve seen comparison videos too. I’ve got this and played it and went back to Mario and it is astonishingly similar
1/10! Ive always hated live service games!!!1!11
@WizzNL no one voted abysmal .
@nomither6 early on in the poll it was at 1% meaning someone had to.
Game of the year. It's practically perfect.
9/10 and a worth day one title.
The save bug was unfortunate. The only personally thing I had trouble with was the controller, especially the horizontal placed thumb-sticks. After a few hours of use I always got cramps in the left thumb, a reason why I prefer the Xbox controller where I don't have that problem. The use of the left thumb in this game is brutal (= the cross, triangle, circle, cross & square levels since you need to finish it in 1 go) but the gameplay overall is top notch and has many magical moments.
Only got the game a day before yesterday so I'm still playing it. But it's weird to see takes about Astro being a kids' game. Kids play Fortnite, Genshin and Call of Duty, platformers are played by an old farts like me.
@nedbvai (#101)
I don't know you, so I won't judge you.
But when I look back at my 23 year old self who said exactly the same things, I can only laugh at him from today's perspective. looking back, I certainly wasn't fully grown at 23, at least mentally. Even though I always thought I was
And I guess at 23 I would have called it a kid's game, too.
@nedbvai nope you 100% still a kid in the way you are acting
@LikelySatan Hope you have a great time m8, where you going? I know what you mean i hadnt had a holiday in a long time, it was much needed went to switzerland, germany & italy it was great much needed break. And today i get to see my nephew and play astro bot with him 😁
@WizzNL oh. yeah that’s pretty weird
It's a 10/10 if you have are a playstation fan, knowing all the games and references.
If you had to nit pick and look for improvements, timed runs should have been included from the start, and, more importantly, abilities that you get from levels should be able to be carried over to other levels, like Skylanders or mario with the big and small mushrooms.
Going back to each level as the mouse could open up new areas inaccessible previously, same as with the sponge power up, etc...
@WizzNL it's the same type of person who gets a mini bought for them, and never waves at other minis.
Maybe they got a ps5 as a gift and have absolutely no idea where any of the bots came from.
Or the type of person on 'who wants to be a millionaire' who, when the audience is asked, puts a stupid answer so they can see thier vote.. lol
I’d say a 9 simply because it doesn’t last forever and some of those challenge levels tested my patience and controller. But otherwise it’s an absolute delight which reminded me quite how neglected the DualSense is in most games and how much it can add to an already superb experience. Plus it also reminded me that some games can still be released in tip top shape and not riddled with bugs. Some brilliant boss fights, awesome power ups and more references than even my brain could remember it’s easily one of my favourite games of the year …
… it’s also extra special, albeit in a bittersweet way, as it reminds me if my amazing brother who suddenly died back in 2022 aged only 50. We’d both bought a PS5 and loved Astro’s Playroom frequently singing along to the soundtrack despite our age. So it’s deeply tragic that he never got to play the new game as I know he’d have adored it like myself and given us another chance to just enjoy a game together and act like crazy kids!
Anyway, it’s a delightful game that provided me with many chuckles and smiles at a time when I really need them not to mention tears and memories. So thanks, Team Asobi and, of course, my astro-nomical bruv. Love you forever, my Si x
@HonestHick There's an option to replace motion controls with left stick
@VaultGuy415 "8/10 for me. Too many of the challenge levels create "difficulty" by making the next obstacle impossible to see. Splashing Sprint is genuinely awful.
It's very good but it ain't Mario."
it ain't mario, so a 8/10🤦
@viktorcode no way for real? I didn’t even look at control options as i wanted to play it with the design team’s vision first. But thank you for letting me know that. It’s such a fun game, i am talking my time and collecting all the bots before moving on so i haven’t beat it yet. But i am enjoying it a lot. 😊
Thanks again for the tip!!!
@nomither6 Not that it deserves 1/10, but it seems that at least two votes have been removed because people have noticed that weird thing twice.
@Banjo- fancy seeing you here! but yea, abysmal is back to 0% again . i didn’t know that votes could even be removed.
@Artois2 if this isn't a kids game then what is? Come on be serious
@Daleaf just up to the mountains, in Colorado. It's only three days, but three much needed. We don't really plan our vacations. We kind of just go and eat good food and have lots of sex.
So fun! I love all the fun mechanics and hidden gems. I wish the boss was a little tougher, though!
And I'm a sucker for the Astro Bot Rescue Mission in VR... I keep thinking that they can release a VR level or a few in VR for this game... some of the mechanics feel very similar to the Rescue Mission...
Even by Edge magazine's harsh ratings system it's a easy 10. Watch Astro's fabulous dance at the end of the Final encore level and try telling him his hard work to entertain doesnt deserve top marks
8 - Its fun and has a lot of cool ideas but it never does anything compelling with them.
The chicken rocket and balloon power are really only used as high jumps. The time stopper and octopus are used to create mindlessly easy platforming sections. The lights you carry cast to such a wide area that the platforms being invisible becomes completely irrelevant. Other better platformers have used these same powers to create incredibly fun levels specifically built around the skills but in Astro they rarely lead to anything more than rote platforming.
@nedbvai Tbf I can see where you’re coming from being 23.. this game (imo) is targeted directly to both the younger crowd and the millennials and boomers who remember the good ol original Mario 64 days.. that and being a male in your early twenties kind of comes with that stigma of ‘It’s not manly enough and my friends will call me gay or something.’
I honestly 100% feel you brother..
Still fun tho lol
@WolfyTn not at all its not gay & ill actually play some of the mario games because they seem less aimed at kids. I played the astro bot game that comes free with the PS5 just seemed like it was aimed at under 7s to me.
@nedbvai Your original comment says you are yeah.
Next question.
9 out of 10 for me! It's absolutely outstanding and it might be my personal favorite PS exclusive since God of War 2018 (note: I'm about halfway through currently). Also my favorite 3D platformer sine Super Mario Odyssey.
I dislike 1-hit kill mechanics in general though, so I really wish you could take 2 or 3 hits (like you can in some bosses) instead of just 1. The checkpointing is lovely though, so it's not a huge issue.
Overall, it's nearly everything I could want from a modern 3D platformer, a console exclusive, and as a follow-up to the delightful experience I had with Astro's Playroom!
In a world without 3D Mario, I would give it a 10. But since a lot of its ideas actually come from 3D Mario games I gave it a 9. Great game! Asobi is quickly becoming a very important team to PlayStation.
@ShogunRok I'm trying to find the 12 were is it?
Anyone who gives this a 1 should stop gaming not liking something is not the same as it being abysmal. This game is polished to perfection works flawless and looks fantastic and it you think its to childish nothing wrong with that but it's better not to vote. The same with people saying shawshank/ the green mile is a terrible movie it's not and you are not objective.
@WolfyTn Boomers yeah no.
@MrPeanutbutterz kids game
considring how it ripped off 99% of everything from Mario i would say a 5 is generous
@nedbvai Yeah you're still emotionally a child though.
So I'll go enjoy the kid's game, and you enjoy being a kid.
9 from me. Amazing game, and a fun platinum, however, I felt it was one workd short of being a 10; I was expecting a final world to open after the ones we had, rather than just the final boss stage.
Also, the world map/level select felt very cheap compared to the level of polish throughout the rest of the game.
@LikelySatan haha brilliant m8, im sure you will have a great time then 😜😜
I really don't get the mentality "this game is for kids" as if it's a traversty for adult who play and enjoyed it. The rating even showed "E" for Everyone.
It's reminds me with people who said adults can't play Lego, collect action figures, play video games, or watch anime. These people has problem with their parents who teached them when they became adults, they can't have a hobby or having fun anymore. It should be work, work, family, and more work.
No wonder a lot of people looks more stressful these days.
@MrPeanutbutterz I'm alright ill just play something that's meant for adults. Honestly imagine your girlfriend or wife seeing you play this or amy other grown man. I can tell you alarm bells would be ringing
@nedbvai My wife bought the game for herself, and we're playing a separate save file each. Oh, and your childish response just further cements that yes, you are in fact still a child.
Tell me, what are these "alarm bells", exactly? What are you implying?
Who voted it as abysmal? No matter how good a game is theres always one.... or in this case more than one.
Finished the game yesterday and it was a blast. Lots of cool areas, some awesome ideas and great visuals. I wish I could have played more of the miniture/mouse levels.
I would give it something between 8 and 9, leaning more towards a 9.
For me there was basicly almost zero challenge in any of the levels and the "hidden" bots and secret stages were to easy to find. The game was also fairly short.
Giving this game more than a 9 would mean I had to ignore the existence of a game called Super Mario Galaxy and on top of that there is a Super Mario Odyssey.
For me, Astro Bot is nowhere near Odyssey.
@nedbvai You reckon it was aimed at the under 7s who played checks notes the PS1 demo disc with the T-rex in the mid 1990s?
@MrPeanutbutterz I'm a grown man who owns a business me personally I wouldn't play this game becuase its for kids. I don't know anyone who would personally we're obviously completely different people.
@nedbvai You reckon owning a business makes you a grown man? Lol.
C'mon, what did you mean by "alarm bells"? Is the grown man too chicken to say what he really means?
9,5 for me so I voted 9. A delight to play and to look at, easily surpassing the excellent Mario Odyssey while providing the sheer technological wonder the Switch never packed and solidly landing into Mario Galaxy’s “best in its class” territory.
Nitpicks for me are the use of motion controls in some levels (not a fan) and the fact its many brilliant ideas never elevate it to game changer. It’s pure joy though! If something batcr*** insane as Rebirth didn’t exist, this would be my goty
@MrPeanutbutterz you are meant to be impressed that he owns his own business
I’ll give it a 9. Reasons are that it’s a tad too short, that the optional levels can get a bit frustrating towards the end, that the main levels are a tad too easy and I didn’t recognise most of the cameos.
But otherwise it’s just above and beyond in every way, music, colour, sound, gameplay, bosses, level design, love it!
@PuppetMaster I don’t actually feel it’s for kids. My 7 yo niece loves it, she loves Astro she loves seeing the levels, gets excited to save the bots and she can play a bit.
But she had to hand me the controller a fair bit even on the basic levels and had little/no chance of doing those special levels with the circle/square etc.
If there were any complaints, 100% completion may be too challenging for a lot of the people it attracts.
It's a masterpiece, every level crafted to perfection, the Bot of War level is nothing short of genius.
@nedbvai so what games do you play that make you feel a big man lol. Aren't we all big kids who play videogames. I love gaming Astrobot is definitely my game of the year. Regardless of your shallow opinion.
I can't give it more than 5. It's fun while you're playing it but it left me wanting on so many levels. It's short. It's easy. It doesn't make full use of the Dual sense like its free predecessor.
It's biggest sin, however, is that it doesn't have any of its own identity. Like Playroom before it, it's an ode to the past. It's an expensive reference to days gone by. Nothing short of nostalgia-bait. When Jak popped up as a special bot, I couldn't help but think "man, I'd much rather play a new Jak & Daxter game". There were a lot of thoughts along those lines as I was playing.
I think all the tens in these comments are ridiculous. How can it be a ten when it's just a stream of references to bigger, better games that actually have their own identity.
