Helldivers 2 has been a bit of a surprise hit for Sony and developer Arrowhead Studios. The game's landed with a genuine bang, pulling a huge number of players across PS5 and PC since its launch last week. The general consensus is that — outside of connection issues — it's a damn good time, especially if you can coax a few friends to join you in blasting overgrown bugs.
Enthusiasm for the mission-based shooter shines through in our Helldivers 2 PS5 review. Awarding the game an 'excellent' 9/10, we wrote: "Helldivers 2 is a riotous affair, offering up best-in-class gunplay, a truly epic and often cinematic experience, mixed in with one of the best co-op gameplay romps currently available." We concluded: "Helldivers 2 is a hell of a lot of fun, and is the best laugh you and your mates will have on PS5."
But what do you think of Helldivers 2? Do you agree with our high score, or is this whole war against the enemies of Super Earth overblown? Rate the game for yourself in our poll, and then stand before your fellow Helldivers in the comments section below.

It's a solid 9 lot of fun
A 9 for democracy!
The game is excellent with real potential to improve to outstanding. Arrowhead and Sony are quite a team.
It's really good. I think I might prefer the first game at the moment, but I also just prefer top-down shooters overall, but this is the kind of leap in quality I expected from the series. The action is tight and the satire is on point. I'm feeling a strong 8 to a light 9 on this one. Tran-
-sition. Have you given this game a play? Did you love it? Did you hate it? Comment, let me know what you think. You're the best you're the best. Make sure to check out more Pushsquare articles.
Helldivers 2... forever.
I’ve played 4 missions so far and am unimpressed. It didn’t look like a good game to me but I wanted to try it. Should have stuck with my gut. I voted 6 because the shooting does feel good.
I gave it an 8/10, will be a 9 once they fix everything.
It would be an 8 or a 9 but you can't ignore the fact that it's basically launched in a broken state I've had multiple crashes each day and I've not been able to log on all day today despite trying on and off. When it works it's great and can definitely see potential but it's been a pretty rough launch.
Probably an 8/10. There’s not much to the game but what’s there is addictive fun.
I'm somewhat surprised so many people are hyping this game up. Not that it looks 'bad,' by any means. It just looks like... any other multiplayer focused shooter released in the last 10 years.
Not sure why this is praise worthy when Left 4 Dead had more going for it. I get that its fun and has good gunplay — nothing wrong with that. But... still not that impressive.
And sure, I haven't played it myself, so who am I to say. Does this game do anything that hasn't already been seen in the genre?
I’d like to try it. I wish there was a demo.
If it irons our a few things it's a 10. Never thought I'd say that about a MP PvE extraction shooter in my life lol
So how we feeling about Sony’s push for live services now /s
Honestly between 8 and 9. It does have some issues, but with time there is no doubt Arrowhead Studio is gonna iron them out.
@RoomWithaMoose but it DOES do things that haven't been done. Like being hilarious and very much tactical at the same time. It also manages to make dying enjoyable. There is a ton of content at launch. Lots of cool ways to manipulate your loadout to have distinctly different playstyles. There is so just an X factor that can't be explained. This game just has the secret sauce. I also rarely play MP games anymore because of the sameness and grind associated with them all
This game has dragged me back in to the pancake realm.
9/10 from me.
9/10
I love the game, but I am getting stuck through walls and getting disconnected from missions that I almost completed several times.. it’s exhausting.
Then not getting xp after I complete missions. If they can fix this and I know they are.. I will be grateful.
Also they should add a jump button, and maybe an automatic reload. Vehicles would be nice in the future.
@RoomWithaMoose it’s one of those that plays much better than it looks. It also helps that it’s as fun when it’s going badly as when it’s going well. With regards to new stuff the way it uses community objectives is pretty unique, I’m sure it’s been done before but probably not on this scale. I dunno what to tell you, it’s just pure dumb, hilarious fun!
@Nyne11Tyme Not to come off as an ass, but even Left 4 Dead could be thought of as humorous and tactical. I've played many games where dying was enjoyable. And meaningful load outs have been a thing, ignoring straight RPGs, at least as far back as System Shock.
I'm not trying to challenge the 'funness' of the game. Just the hype.
9 from me, easily one of the best co-op games i've ever played.
There was a game called "Future Cop: LAPD" for the PS1 that some friends and I found to be an absolute blast back in the day. Like, where you gotta stop and catch your breath from laughing so hard. I just checked what score it got and it's around an 8, which is fair I think.
The fun factor was a 10 though, and I have more vivid memories of playing that game 25 years ago than many higher rated games within the last 10.
Helldivers 2 is a 10 on the fun as well, while I think an 8 or a 9 is fair.
9... for the amount of times I got terminated by Automatons in a single deployment.
@GKT I used to love Future cop LAPD! My mate would come round at the weekend and we’d play it until the early hours!
A 9 playing with friends, perhaps an 8 when playing with not so vocal randoms. A lot of the joy comes from sharing the experience with those on the mic!
@somnambulance
I was in the same boat as yourself, would have liked a demo.
Decided as it was £34.99 and not the usual 70 quid for a game, id take the plunge and jump aboard. Have not regretted it.
Sound £34 spent which i will get many many hours enjoyment from, even more so as the games issues get ironed out.
Go for it.
@RoomWithaMoose You’ve answered your own question there. When you actually play it you’ll know why folks are gushing over it.
I usually prefer solo games and haven’t enjoyed a multiplayer game this much in over a decade. The style, the fluidity of solid gameplay, the attention to detail, everything just clicks. Amazing game, even with the launch issues.
A solid 9 from me. Bought it twice. One for Steam and the other for PS5, which I will own one soon.
7 until they fix the netcode
Fantastic game. I went for a 9. I rarely play anything online, and haven't played a game with battlepasses, MTX, loot boxes, etc, since Overwatch 1. But I broke my rules for Helldivers 2 and I'm glad I did. I love the fact that it's PvE and how the gameplay systems encourage co-operation - even playing with random people we're constantly apologising for killing one another, thanking one another for respawning you when you die, calling out what's going on, etc. The MTX are really unobtrusive and it's completely optional to spend actual money - I have acquired enough of the premium currency either in the game or through the free battlepass to buy a few things from the rotating paid store, and am saving up to unlock the premium battle pass. I don't even care that some of the items in the premium battle pass appear to be more powerful; if other people want to spend money to unlock it quicker that's only going to benefit me if we team up together. And all that is before I get on to how crazy and chaotic the game can be in full swing. And the comedy baked into the game's satire is brilliant - I always laugh when a character starts laughing maniacally when they've racked up a decent kill streak while expending an entire mag of their machine gun, or when one of the character's scripted expressions was cut off mid sentence by a resupply pod dropping on their heads.
It's a 9 for me, currently, until Arrowhead irons out the bugs.
It's a 10, fun-wise, and the base and potential of the game makes me very excited to see where this will go in a couple of months.
I haven't had this much fun playing a multiplayer game (or any game) since the golden days where I was playing Destiny 1 with a regular fireteam. Helldivers 2 literally reignited my love for gaming.
It really is great fun, gets a 9 from me, some proper laugh out loud moments! Guns feel punchy too!!
Do your part fellow citizens ✊
I see a lot of 9’s when all i heard was Sony all we want is single player games. Quit with the live service junk. Good to see people give this a try and realize it’s not only fun but a game that stands out and is different from what most Sony studios have released. Hope Sony continues a nice balance of live service games and single player.
Have to be trolling to give this any lower than a 6 at worst
