Now that it's been out on PS5 and PS4 for about a week, we want to know what you think of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The side-scrolling adventure got some really high review scores from critics, despite its obvious deviation from the more well-known Prince of Persia formula (but then it's been ages since the series' previous instalment).
We gave the game a 'great' 8/10 in our Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown review. We heaped praise on how well the title plays and its level design, writing: "Combining the series' 2D past with the time-bending powers from later games, this Metroidvania is a brilliant blend that brings the franchise back in a fresh new way." We concluded: "This is an overall great action adventure with a lot to offer."
But how highly would you rate Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown? As always, give it a score of your own in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

I think it's a solid 8. Better than I was anticipating too.
I'd go with a 7. Good stuff. Much better than I was expecting it to be.
Would definitely say 8.5-9 area. I was surprised at how much I was enjoying it, because the demo didn't really hit on some of the better notes.
Combat was more fleshed out than initially revealed (the combo challenges taught me a lot). The Metroid-Vania aspects were also undersold in the demo, so I really enjoyed getting those new abilities to explore more, change up gameplay, etc. Visuals were great, bosses were satisfying and challenging at times.
My only complaint so far (I think I'm about 60-70% done) is some of the abilities don't feel implemented that well. One ability I totally forgot I had because the game didn't really make me use it much after getting it. It didn't always follow that Zelda rule of making you use the new gadget/power against the boss. Sometimes, but not always.
8 sounds about right. The game feels amazing to play and the story is pretty interesting, but the progression curve is so painfully slow. I've been at it for 15 hours and it still doesn't feel like I've gotten that much stronger. I know this game is pretty long, but it's getting harder to stay invested when I always feel like I'm waiting for a decent upgrade.
I really enjoyed my time with it. I'd give it a 9. My only real problems were that the fast travel points were a bit too spread out and the final boss was a bit disappointing in terms of challenge but overall this is easily my favorite of the genre. The puzzle design, combat, and the rest of the boss fights were all great.
And give whoever came up with the screen shot mechanic a raise.
Oh it’s an easy 9/10 for me. In fact, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is right up there with Metroid Dread as one of the best Metroidvania’s I’ve played in years
I have it an 8, it’s an absolutely fantastic game, but every now and then there’s a part that just leaves me frustrated instead of having fun.
A solid 8. Great game, nice fighting mechanics. One or two bugs, sometimes it's easy to get lost but overall it's a great game
@BookhouseBoy I know right?! Like, how dare they have an opinion that's different that yours?! lol I kid. I too, get a little judgmental a-holey when it comes to Elden Ring.
Personally I gave it 6. Whilst the locations are visually stunning and I love how they’ve blended the side scrolling elements of the original and mixed with skills from the later games, there are aspect I don’t like. I have no idea why you have the playable character design, then slightly different cut screen characters that look like they are from a cgi cartoon, then artistic painted style images for the dialogue…it doesn’t match up.
The storyline is weak and for the most part you forget about it until you remember you are on a quest.
The map isn’t that big - it looks big but it’s not.
But what I hate the most is the controls. L2 is to block/pary…but if you accidentally still have this held down when you want to attack you end up trigger one of your powers that you didn’t want to use at that point. They also use the R3 button (which is terrible). Maybe if you could choose the buttons yourself it would make it slightly better.
Overall it does start to feel very repetitive. It’s a very easy game to complete very quickly unless you are obsessed with collecting.
@nocdaes same here
10, i ve just mad fun
Between an 8 and 9 so far. It’s exquisite Metroidvania fun. The visuals are a little underwhelming in cutscenes, but I really appreciate them in the gameplay moments. It’s not yet Ori, Dread, Hollow Knight tier, but it’s the best thing to come from Ubisoft since AC4, perhaps beyond. It’s so much fun that I can see myself continuing to warm on it and land at a 9.
Very good game I like it 👌
I tried out the demo and liked it. I'm too busy with other games now, but I will inevitably play this game in its entirety.
@AhmadSumadi elden ring is my favourite arpg so far. There is nothing wrong with defending it vehemently 🤣👍
It's a "since its a UBISOFT game I will wait for the inevitable price reduction in some weeks" but as a auto proclaimed UBISOFT hater (I really don't like the games they deliver at all, except maybe for Rayman) I must say that this game interest me and looks good.
Easily 9 it’s seriously one of the best metroidvanias ever
@Littlemidge1986 the map isn’t big lmao it’s huge have you played more than the demo because it doesn’t seem like it
I'm liking it, would say it's an 8. I'm finding it frustrating at points but that's a staple of the genre. Runs and plays super smooth
@Enuo I'm a bit like that. Feeling a tad burned out with it
@BookhouseBoy if in they're opinion it's the best they have played who are you to disagree. The people saying that may feel it is the best even if you don't.
I personally don't think it is but it's the best of its kind I've played in a while
@BookhouseBoy there seem to be people who say that sort of thing about every game. Accolades trailers mean nothing to me anymore.
@dark_knightmare2 I have the actual game and almost completed it. All the main areas, secret levels, side quests etc. just about to head back up the mountain.
It seems big but you have to remember it’s all side scrolling. Each area is quite small - the sea area is very long (similar to the forest). Huge maps I would say are games like horizon
Not bothered about scoring it, just having a great deal of fun playing it.
@Littlemidge1986 I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to horizon which is a huge open world but in relation to other metroidvanias the map is huge
@dark_knightmare2 absolutely is far to compare when they are both retailing for the same price. I expected more for the game. For what you get it should have been priced at £29.99
@Littlemidge1986 it’s fine if you feel it’s overpriced everybody’s different but the game is easily 20-30 hours long with a huge world to explore, amazing boss fights, amazing platforming especially the optional challenges, tons of things to find and an ok story to tie it all together. It’s easily worth the 50
@dark_knightmare2 I respect that…but as I’ve said, I don’t find the world that big…I was hoping it would have taken me to other realms…the boss rights are ok…the platforming for me would be great if the controls were better. There’s not that many optional challenges (and yes I’ve found the hidden areas).
Each to their own but for me definitely not worth anywhere near £50
Happy it's getting such a positive reception, especially considering that in the comments here people wrote it off because of the trailer music and the protagonist not looking Persian enough (which is hilarious considering the original PoP looked like Luke Skywalker)
I'm waiting for it to go on sale and for half price it will be a 9 or 10, but it feels too expensive at full price to be more than an 8.
