The Last of Us: Part I — Naughty Dog's remake of the PS3 and PS4 remastered modern classic — has been available on PS5 for roughly a week now, and we want to know what you think of it. It's fair to say that this has been a divisive release, mostly due to Part I's full retail price point.
This was something that we had little choice but to acknowledge in our The Last of Us: Part I review, where we awarded the remake a respectable 8/10. "At a more competitive price point, it’d be essential – as it is, it’s a pricey upgrade on a bona fide classic," we wrote.
But again, these poll articles aren't about us — we want to know what review score you would give The Last of Us: Part I. So be sure to rate the game, and then explain your stance in the comments section below.

Just a quick reminder to be respectful of other people's opinions in this comments section. We can have discussions about the game without resorting to insults. Nothing wrong with having different takes.
I do think it is still a great 10/10 game when it came out. I'll give the new one an 8 because I just felt it was unnecessary to "remake"
It’s really hard to separate how great a game it is from the need for a full price remake.
Don't own it but from what I've seen the same score as the original since it's a 1-1 remake so about an 8
It’s a 10/10 game for a 1/10 price. People saying the remake itself is a bad game that ruined the original are still mad about TLOU2.
In a vacuum it's a 10/10 game
7/10. One point for every 10$ this remake costs
The game is a 10, the price is a 5. I’m playing it right now and it just isn’t worth £70. I am enjoying playing the story again but I would have enjoyed it just as much playing the PS4 Remaster.
Still one of the greatest game I ever played. So yes 10/10
marked down because its basically a remaster yes the visuals are better but its the same game that ive already played and bought twice before at a cheaper price . also multiplayer is now missing
less content for more money
Price always enters into the equation when reviewing something. Almost everyone has said something is good for the price they paid but they wouldn't buy it if it cost much more than they paid for it or said it was very good but not worth the price they paid.
The fact that they charged full for this is insane. But also, having never actually bought the previous editions, I did pay for price Haha But still, that’s nuts.
I didn't buy the remake so I didn't vote but if we are just talking TLOU1 in general it's still a 10. Excellent game and no matter how pointless the remake is to me, nothing can take away from how great the original game is.
Price shouldn’t enter the equation/final review score.
What purpose does a review for a single player game have for someone that buys the game for £15 have in like a year- yet the score will always be there.
Sure you can add a disclaimer saying ‘wait for a sale’.
It’s another thing single player games have going against them nowadays. A recent example is Temtem, little reviews because it hasn’t established a player base yet as it’s an MMO.
Could get a 9/10 for the 1st month because it’s new but within weeks it keep could have no one playing yet the score remains.
Value proposition is important but imo a reviewer should worry about the content of the game.
Does a game launching on PS+/Gamepass automatically become better, because someone didn’t have to ‘pay’ for it vs someone that went & bought it?
Playing it at the moment. Phenomenal looking game & also the best version of the game to play.
The remake looks amazing, characters are much more detailed and better animated but the game's design is starting to show it's age, it's still a great game but yeah, it's hard to recommend to anyone when you can buy a month of PS Plus Extra and play it there.
@Enigk reviewing a game on its qualities and how fun and rewarding it is to play first should be the only things when reviewing a game. Like whatever your review score is for it then takeaway a point or 2 off your review score afterwards. So let's say it's a 10 out of 10 game but you've taken 2 points off for price and then lack of factions. For me a games length is more important than the games price. Take RE3 remake costs 60 for example but TLoU remake with Left Behind included is almost over 3 or 4 times longer in length than what RE3 remake is
For everyone lowering the score because of the price, do you also increase the score of crappy games just because you get it cheap?
Forgetting all the ruckus surrounding the game, looking at it in isolation as a game, storytelling is a 10, gameplay is up to an 8 because of the improved tactical awareness of the AI, graphics/performance is a 10. Overall its a masterpiece and deserves a 10 and be a standard bearer for narrative-driven games to aim for.
In fact if FIFA 22 gets an 8 this should get a special Spinal Tap score of 11.
The story and presentation are 10/10 and the gameplay (with improved animation and AI) aged surprisingly little. I’d give this a 10/10 if I hadn’t played part 2, which makes me wish they could’ve incorporated some of the mechanics back in part 1 (I realize that would mean they could no longer use the same level design etc, but still).
Strong 9/10.
If I factored the Price into it, then I'd have to give it a MUCH lower score. Its a slightly 'refined' and obviously better looking version of a 9yr old game built and designed around that PS3 hardware and as a result, is somewhat dated from a Game Play aspect.
The story, whilst predictable and after several playthroughs, has a very predictable pattern to both Game-play and Characters you meet on your journey, doesn't have the impact it did when it was 'new, fresh'.
Its also lacking the Multi-player component that the Original came with on PS3 to offer more value and more reason to keep playing long after completing the Campaign. So with this been nearly 2x as much with 'half' the content and that content really adds nothing to the 'overall' story, the characters, the game-play loop etc etc so if I took the price into consideration, I would have scored it MUCH lower!!!
seems strange to do this article. guessing more clicks are needed. its totally inflammatory.
nobody argues that its 8+ or how stunning it is. but the price IS divisive.
why cant it be left enjoyed by those who bought it, and let others wait for a sale.
@Voltan remake 9 out of 10 for me also. It would be a 10 out of 10 but I'm knocking 1 point off because its the 3rd time it's released now and doesn't have the same 10 out of 10 impact it once had almost a decade ago. Factions ain't what made the original 2013 TLoU popular, it was the campaign that it's known for not mp so I don't miss the first factions at all
I give it a 10/10 because the first game is one of my all time favourite.
I don't factor the price into the review score. The price changes over time but the game remains the same. And someday the price will drop a lot. It's good for reviews to mention the price and if the reviewer feels it's worth the launch price or mention what their biting point is or how much they think it is worth. I just don't think it should have any effect to the score itself unless they plan to update those reviews later down the road. If the price has any effect towards the score, then it's like saying only free games or day 1 Plus/GamePass games are worthy of receiving a 10/10
Does a games price usually affect the review score? Thought the review was based on the quality of the game and its performance.
It's a great game but I did an Ellie when I saw the price.
"Bye bye, dude."
Easy 10 for me. Best version of my favourite game ever deserves no less. I honestly wish I could erase it from my memory, just to enjoy it afresh all over again.
Price is admittedly a sore point, but the game itself is a bonafide masterpiece.
Price very rarely, if ever, plays a part in reviews. However, this is one of the few examples where it can have an effect.
That's an easy 10 in my book
It's missing Factions, so that alone means I'd have scored it lower than TLOU Remastered. However, I haven't played the Remake, and don't intend to until a massive price drop.
Needless to say I didn't score it, but it wouldn't be a 10, nor would it be a 1.
@LiamCroft to me, price should play a factor on almost any re-release.
@Tharsman I agree. Take the new Saints Row for example. People are saying "wait for a sale" for that game because paying full price felt like a ripoff when it does nothing new that the previous games did BETTER
Seeing all of the 1/10 reviews remind me that, even though TLoU series are the greatest games I have ever played, I won't touch the fan base with a 10 ft. pole.
I wouldn’t say the Mona Lisa is a bad work of art just because I can’t afford to buy it, so I won’t do that with games either. The Last of Us is a 10/10 for me.
With that said, $70 is a lot of money. I went ahead and picked it up because TLoU is one of my favorite games ever, but it definitely felt like a big investment. For most other games price factors in more heavily for me, this was just an exception (although I think $70 is my tolerance limit. More than that and I’ll probably pass in the future).
Edit: just so it’s clear, I don’t fault anyone for being upset about the price. It definitely is overpriced for the average player, especially those that have played TLoU before and don’t think it’s a 10/10
If the reason for it’s very existence is a better looking version how can it be anything less? Or even on par. Can we give it more; no we can’t it was the great Eric Adams sang all men play on 10 any higher that’s spinal tap shjt. Sorry ND
I would be slightly more forgiving if it included the excellent multiplayer which for some people I know it was more entertaining then the main game, is ridiculous we're paying more money for less game.
Price should never be a factor on review.
So game on ps+ 10/10, bought it for 20$ 9/10, for 40$ 8/10 and full price 7/10.
Does people that paid full price think it was only a good game but for ps+ people it was a great game.
Do you see how weird this will be.
@Luvstagrind that’s not a re-release, though. Although I can still see anyone agreeing on waiting for a sale on any disappointing game.
I meant specifically factoring in the list price for ports and remasters and then consider if any of the improvements actually justifies whatever price tag the publisher decided. For me, TLOU PS5 Remaster does not justify that price tag one bit.
@LiamCroft how can you have flexible review policies? Shouldn't reviews be standardised otherwise how are we meant to take the score seriously?
For the record I think value for money and price should 100% be a factor in all reviews not just selected games deem suitable for extra scrutiny for a reason that is only valid for a very short window of time once prices fall.
I would love for you to include this level of judgement for games that are yearly franchises that charge full £59.99 RRP, as well as for ALL remakes and remasters, at the very least if it's not policy to do it as routine.
It's odd because for most other products price is an integral part of a review and yet with games it seems to be selective as to which games get considered if any at all. There's probably been very few out of the tens of thousands over time.
As for TLoU, the amount of work that's gone into this remake is above and beyond so many others, If I hadn't already played this game and I bought tot for RRP I'd be well satisfied with what ND has done, and yet I get the feeling there are people out there who will judge it harshly for it price precisely because they've already bought it once, maybe twice and that will taint viewing the game as a product in isolation.
Instead of saying price will be a factor in reviewing it it would be fairer to say it will be reviewed with the fact that there are other versions of it that have been sold to the public so for some reason it must be value-judged against them.
I wish The Batman were reviewed that way so that it got scored 4 for being the rubbish I thought it was 😊
It's still the same masterpiece, but made better by the fantastic audio-visual presentation. Reading the comments about the changes being negligible etc makes me laugh. I've played the game for a week straight and I'm only in the University of Eastern Colorado. That's because I'm in awe with how great the game looks and just spend obscene amount of time gawking at the scenery and characters. Hopefully the PC crowd will appreciate this game when it comes to PC. Especially with a lower price tag.
I bought it but had some vouchers so only paid £35
I haven’t played it since 2013 on the PS3.
I’m around 9 hours in and really enjoying it.
9/10 from me.
Deduction for price and some of Joel’s movement is a little clunky.
@Tharsman but it is still a game that most reviewers factored in price and said to wait for a major price drop. Factoring in price just lets consumers at least know whether their money is well spent or wasted
Love this game. It really is a masterpiece
I am rebuilding my Sony collection little by little on PC with each release - so maybe I will buy it one last time on PC.
I do not play story driven games over... so cant justify full price on any hardware.
Haven't played the remake. But if you have never played it before. The experience will be amazing. People complain about different elements. But imagine you had never played it and this is the version you do. I wish I was one of those people.
Like uncharted ps5 the price is gonna drop to half very soon..so if you are an impulse buyer or a digital only consumer then you are ripped off. As for newcomers to sony's ecosystem this is a must buy at any price.
Honestly surprised by how close the vote is on Price.
It's official i'm a tight git
TLoU in 2013 and 2014 didn't get 10 out of 10 scores because of its factions MP. It got its 10 out of 10 scores for its high quality gripping campaign. Factions was more of an afterthought to the main campaign like nearly every other single player game from the time trying to add some sort of MP which for the most part was never needed on most games. I'd guess over 90% of the entire player base for Last of Us took no interest in Factions MP and was not the reason many purchased the game for
To be fair, everyone I heard who bought it seems to be loving it, so I don’t think anyone who put money down has walked away disappointed, as can regularly be the case with a new game. But if you’re not a TLOU super fan and/or can’t stomach £70 for a remaster, no amount of convincing will change your mind, which is also understandable.
I think “divisive” is the word?
Never liked it too much. A 6 I guess.
I can't wait for free-to-play games to be marked up a couple points on account of the price.
You either factor in price on all reviews or none. I don't see why this game gets special treatment.
I gave it a 9/10, the lack of multiplayer definitely brings the score down and by one, but the rest of the game is perfect.
My belief is the only reason this Remake exists because it’s coming to PC and it’s infinitely better than the PS4 Remaster. It would be a bad look to not have something comparable on the PS5.
This is my 4th total play though of the game over the years and it’s mind blowing how much better this experience is than the others over the last decade. The performances shine and become even more engaging in this new light. I’m in constant awe of this world I’ve seen multiple times before, but not like this.
If you don’t want to pay the price now, then wait for a sales drop or the inevitable placement on Plus down the road. Don’t deny yourself the absolute best version of this game though.
I haven't bought part 1 yet as I've bought and played the ps3 and ps4 remastered version,I will buy part1 when price drops abit,I personally feel that price has to be more of an issue on this as its been released on last 2 gen consoles ,so each to their own on whether they've played versions before or whether it's their first buy on this game ,if last of us had just been released on ps5 without previous gens then you could very much say its worth the money.anyway it's still a fantastic game whichever you buy or have already got.price at 70 quid is obviously up to each person whether its worth it to them and I'm still very pleased is selling well ,on ps5 as it does show fab support and I'll get it in a little while down the road, enjoy whichever 1 you have
@WCB Like someone above mentioned, the price should only be taken into account for remasters, remakes, re-re-releases. I don't think you will see the vast majority of people here crying about Ragnarok's price when that releases.
I’m not giving a review score as I haven’t played it. Why would I? I played the original on PS3 and better graphics and performance isn’t enough for me to play through a narrative focused stealth game again.
What I will say is that it’s stupid to use price to judge quality. Cost changes and value is relative.
Is this any worse a game for those who haven’t played it before just because we have, and so deserving of a lesser score? Of course not. You can’t grade it down just because you’ve played it before.
Should there be a score for those who haven’t played it before, and a score for those that have? Nope.
@BritneyfR_ee This is an honest opinion that I share. The game itself is really fantastic, but the price is not. So I think a lot of people are waiting for a good price cut. Because for newcomers to Playstation, this is of course a game that you should not miss. If you are talking about Sony and exclusives in one sentence, this is what it is about.
I mean, been there done that. So it’s lost it’s impact for me. There’s nothing new we haven’t seen before, recycled to within an inch of its life, nothing original about it either. As a consumer it holds little to no value for an EXTREMELY high price point, 6/10
10/10 all the way. It is stunning and the replayability is through the roof thanks to the qol improvements. Really happy with it.
The game is the same great it was the last two times it was released. I personally dont think any game should be 70 dollars let alone a graphical update/ai fix remaster. If it would have come out at 40 dollars no one would have an issue. The game by itself is a 9 out of 10.
@Juanalf why is that though? I don't see how that should matter at all. Did the new Demon's Souls review factor in price? That got a 10/10.
As for Ragnarok, that's obviously a last gen game given a new coat of paint and sold at PS5 prices. Surely that should factor in the review score.
This game remade is unreal ! I get the price anger but its a amazing game and deserves a 10 the game is just so much better in every way
@wcb compare apples with apples.
had they be about to re release GoW on ps5, with just a graphic update, no change to gameplay, then tell you its 70quid, i guarantee people would complain the same as tlou
7/10
The game is still outstanding but, being way more expensive, being the second remaster already and not including the multiplayer definitely lowers its score.
I hate 1-10 review scores. Fundamentally, games are subjective experiences, and emphasizing review scores misses the point.
I’m voting with my money, i.e., not spending it
I'm gonna give it a 10. The original was near perfect... how on earth can the immense upgraded visuals bring the score down? Just as Mario 64 will always be a 10, no matter what it looks like. I support the opinion that they overpriced it. But hey, those devs don't live on air.
@stvevan I did compare apples to apples, Demon's Souls.
@wcb demon souls got much more of a change than just graphic.
Hadn’t played it, can’t review it. I feel remasters have an unfair user review handicap. Typically it’s only fans of the game that buy the remaster. They have to really mess it up to make fans of the game to not like the game
Personally I love the series, both games….. but I’m not paying $70 for a game I just replayed last year via a free to me ps4 remaster
It's a 10/10 game being sold for £70, it is what it is.
You can buy it now at that price, or you can wait a while for the price to drop.
Or if you are a PC gamer, then wait a bit longer and get it on that.
Whatever you pay (or feel you want to pay), you will be getting one of the best gaming experiences currently available.
@stvevan huh
https://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps5/demons_souls
"Changes have been made to the visuals, vocal performances, cutscenes, animations, and user interface – but this is still very much the same Demon’s Souls. You’ll create a character, pick a class, play through a series of stages, and die a bunch. Enemies behave exactly as they used to, useful items still sit in precisely the same locations, and the game’s slightly convoluted Tendency systems remain untouched. There’s no radical reinvention here, and this game is all the better for it.
The lack of systemic changes serves to make this an excellent experience for both newcomers and veterans; fresh eyes will be able to appreciate and witness the raw vision of the original Demon’s Souls brought into the modern age, while veterans will pick up on the tiniest of consistencies that show how committed Bluepoint must’ve been to ensuring that FromSoftware’s original creative vision went unaltered. The attention to detail is staggering."
@stvevan people have been crying over that price increase for going on two years now regardless if it's new or a remake. I haven't bought a new Sony game this gen because I'm not paying the $129 rrp, I wish it was just a $10 increase here.
Personally, if your gonna factor in price to reviews, then a Buy it at Full Price, Wait for a Sale, or Never Buy recommendations should be used across the board on all games.
As for TLoU, it's definitely a 10 to me but I won't be buying it until a steep discount, like I've done for most PS games.
Own up.. What idiots gave it an abysmal rating? Balloons
So the game itself changed because of the price? So when this is on discount it might go up from 9 to 10?
That is not how things work. Food taste the same, regardless if it was free or expensive..
Oh no, a 14 year old is less cute for some...
Take one best games ever, rebuild everything with exceptional attention to detail, add some best use of the dual sense, add even better sound and it's almost a 10, but no game is ever perfect.
The sound of the building creaking all around you with the added rumbles and feedback on the controller in the leaning building section is so good.
@wcb strange review that one as every other review says different (i didnt play ps3 version just latest , so couldnt personally say).
i agree totally with rest, especially when the ps4 version is right there on psplus.
I’ve got plenty of expendable income so price doesn’t concern me ha ha ha ha
Really unnecessary. Why was this game remade? There was absolutely no need for this.
Why does it need to include multiplayer when you can already play the multiplayer? I still don't get this criticism.
The Price is ridiculous, but i gave it a 9 as it is a superb game made better, the accessabilty options they have added are incredible,i took one point off for that price,Would advise people to wait till its on sale ( i imagine around the time the TV show comes out?)
I didn't buy it because of the price.
It shouldn't be a factor, EXCEPT in certain cases, like this one.
It's just too much for a re-remaster. It's just so like Sony right now: augmenting the pricez of the games, of the consoles... Maybe if we weren't in such a context, like a throwback of the PS3 era, when Sony thought it could get away with anything, it wouldn't be such a bother, but it is. It really is.
I'm really not a fan of the Jim Ryan way.
i bought this on ps3 4 and 5 shouldn't be 70.
i got this on disc for £65 , son has no business selling digital for more. od its for server oh its for licence hey £35 ish will befair for that you want to sell digital do that but keep it cheap . i pick up sales on steam i got greed fall with dlc for 12 quid its 35 at full price. sony needs to show loyalty to its customer base , and il have this on my steam account when it's released. maybe on sale 😂
Got this on release day, and completed it shortly after.
The game’s a 10/10 from me.
I don’t think the price matters too much - it is basically a brand new game. I mean, the people who really want it now, they will buy it anyway.
I think the people complaining that “it’s too expensive” generally are the same people who think ALL games are “too expensive”.
I just hope that now ND can make a native PS5 version of part 2.
Sorry, I meant Part II.
10/10 - The story is excellent, one that will be called a classic in another decade. Gameplay is phenomenal. Price is an entirely irrelevant factor, we're talking about the game so anyone saying price comes into the equation is literally just looking for a reason to knock points off. The price fluctuates, sales happen, so using price in a review is ignorant at best and shows you lack the reasoning skills to write a proper review. "This Dreamworld Coke is great tasting but at $2+ a pop it leaves a lot to be desired".... Like what? A cheaper price? Because that doesn't affect your consumption of the product in any way.
The original I would have given a 9/10, the MP really dragged it down but now that it's fixed it's definitely a 10/10.
10/10 now and 10/10 even in 5 years when it will be selling for next to nothing. forget the price already jeez.
If it hadn’t been remastered for PS4 then this is a totally different story. But it has and the only people that benefit here I think are brand new players (are there any??) or die hard fans. As for the price point… jeez that’s borderline offensive. ND should concentrate on a new IP. not even a remastered TLO2. You blew me away with Unchartered and TLOU series so it’s a waste of unbelievable talent to be rehashing existing games.
If the price isn't a factor into the decision to buy a game, the second remaster of a ps3 game at that, your what's wrong with gaming. When people pay 70 bucks for the above said, developers WILL KEEP doing this crap because they are making the money. This WILL DEFINITELY keep happening. Like paying 30 bucks to be an alpha tester. So sad. Tell me why they shouldn't be paying your to test a game out? People want to sound important. Yeah yeah, I know that game. I'm one of the morons that PAID to test that game out. I'm so cool and important. Gotta be able to get dem clocks on social media, I guess. Need that outside validation to feel good about themselves.
Didn't buy it. I respect my time & money a bit too much. ($125 in Australia, yeah right...)
Plus I've always thought this game was super duper overrated. People always bang on about the story, but very rarely the gameplay. And that's because it's average at best. It seems frequent in gaming these days, go watch a movie, read a book (or play one of the Yakuza games) if you want a decent story.
This is my opinion, so if you don't agree, that's ok. I really don't care.
The game has always been outstanding since it came out so it's a 10/10. I'm not factoring in the price of the game because if you have someone who's never played it, then this would be a first time play through and they're paying for a completely remade AAA game. However, if you feel like the price is too high and you've already played the game, and don't feel like the graphical upgrade, is that important, then don't buy it. It. Or, wait for it to go on sale. With Christmas right around the corner, you can easily wait a couple of months and it will probably go down by $20. So, the price is kind of subjective based on your previous experience and whether or not you've played the game before. But as a game alone It is as near perfection as I think you can get.
8/10
Let down by the price being too much for what was actually done. They didn't actually remake the game. Sure, a lot of stuff was overhauled, I get that, hence part of the reason for the high score, but they didn't add dodging, prone etc because it wouldn't fit with the level design... But I'd expect a remake to respectfully alter the design where necessary to accommodate for that. Give previous fans something new. They could've also worked Left Behind into the story where it naturally takes place and not had that separate.
Now, that said, otherwise the accessibility options are fantastic. The sound work and graphical updates are great, though there 40FPS@120Hz mode needs work. New game plus has the option to use all your weapons from the start, which is fun and the unlocks and trophies weren't stressful to acquire.
@darkswabber I think people don't like it because it's a desperate cash grab from ND. They've clearly got no talent left in the company so the only thing they can do is shamelessly resell their best game over and over again, a game that's only 9 years old.
I've never seen anything more low and desperate than a remaster of a remaster.
I can't answer this poll since I refuse to buy the game until it's on sale for $20 New or cheaper...
