The nights are drawing in and the weather is getting seriously cold right now, but that's what this winter World Cup is for: to keep us warm while it's so glum outside. Here's what we're playing this weekend.
Sammy Barker, Editor
I've just started Marvel's Midnight Suns, the superhero strategy game from Firaxis. I'll be reviewing this one, so will be squeezing in as much play time as possible between various NFL and World Cup matches.
Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor
It's all about Need for Speed Unbound this weekend, as I continue to put the game through its paces for review. Once that's done, I'll be hopping back into Psychonauts, which I'm playing for the very first time (and very much enjoying).
Liam Croft, Assistant Editor
Review season is over for me, so I'll finally get started on my huge backlog. I'm returning to God of War Ragnarok, which I believe I'm just over two-thirds of the way through now. Outstanding game.
Aaron Bayne, Video Editor
I'll be drifting around Lakeshore City in Need for Speed Unbound. I've been looking for a chill game to mess around in after the big hitters like God of War Ragnarok, so this fits the bill quite well.
Annette Magaña, Reviewer
I'm still continuing my Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade run but will take a small break to pet the lil' furballs in Marvel's Midnight Suns. Oh, and battle some bad guys, of course.
It's a rather robust WAYP this week, with lots of our team sharing their weekend plans. We're hoping for a similarly strong response in the comments section below.

This weekend I will play some games from my favorite franchise, Castlevania!
I will play Curse of Darkness and Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse!
And from time to time there will be some Fallout thrown in the mix!
Happy gaming everyone!
Little bit of a wierd one but EDF Iron Rain 😂😂
Need to finally finish 2018’s God of War so I can warrant buying Ragnarok. Also just started seeing what Watch Dogs Legion is like as a chill out game on the side.
I'll be playing Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous this weekend (And for the next month or three) which is an early christmas present from my partner 😄
There's so many options for my character it's kinda overwhelming with all the different races, classes and subclasses and such but I'm looking forward to putting a tonne of hours into it!
Have a good weekend everyone!
Since I recently got GOW Ragnarök but never played the 2018 GOW in the late PS4 era (had the Switch back then), playing GOW as well as GT7.
I’m slowly playing Callisto protocol. It’s a solid 6/7 for me so far I’m really not impressed by the melee and dodging combat as it’s getting a bit repetitive now
Still on my 2nd runs of Elden Ring & Cyberpunk 2077. I thought I'd searched every corner on my 1st with ER, just shocking I found some village hiding in plain sight in Limgrave. And CDPR better tone down their urgency with the main story in their games going forward. You include a billion side missions yet you're telling us V is dying. Geralt needs to save Ciri but he's out there taking Witcher contracts. I just love the freedom with no urgency in games like ER, GTAV and RDR2.
GOWR 50 hours played and just started after story content. Game is outstanding and emotional. Callisto Protocol put a few hours in and first impressions are good on Ps5. Graphics and atmosphere are great and more Dead Space like games is a positive for me. After that its Gotham Knights and Evil West
I played PS4 games. 🙂
1. Cooking Mama Cookstar
2. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town
This is the first time my biggest rebel by playing Cooking Mama Cookstar on PS4, the game that supposed to be on Nintendo machine. I mean, why not ?
Break the exclusivity. 😉
I was still at the beginning part of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town. Started to build relationship with my three future husbands: Ralph, Emilio and Jack. 😊
I will continue with Yakuza 0
Since I finished Ragnarok ten days ago I've barely picked up a controller, it's left me feeling really indecisive about what's next - including jumping back into it for the Platinum. That's probably the answer - back to the Nine Realms I go!
@PenguinLtd Its all about the individual player but for me GOWR took the original and improved every single aspect. It surpassed my expectations
So, I should be playing Evil West but I purchased Dreamlight Valley on discount in the Black Friday sales and now I’m hooked. It’s all I’ve played since. Can’t wait for the new Toy Story/Christmas content next week (and Stitch 😁).
Then there’s the Fortnite season Finale today, which looks set to be the biggest event yet.
Dragon Age Inquisition on Nightmare which lives up to its name.
After seeing the disappointing reviews for several games this week and having the urge of buying a new game I ended up not getting anything new at all, so I picked up a couple of indie games on my wish list instead. I bought Dodgeball Academia which is self explanatory for what you'll do in the game, but also has RPG elements and side quests, the game has been awesome so far and am thoroughly enjoying it.
Also picked up Valheim because it got a new update and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. It's a little slow to start out as a survival game, but I've built up a small house and a perimeter to ward off enemies. The game has a Skyrim leveling system so the more I chop wood the better I get at it which feels rewarding. I finally crafted a bow so I can go hunting deer to forge new armour and further upgrade my tools. The map is just huge and I've only covered about 1% of it so this strangely might become my new addiction.
Happy gaming and have a good week 😋
Working on my back log, so 13 Sentinels on PS5, OW2 on PC.....and Ys 8 arrived yesterday so more backlog!
@TheArt is this village sort of up high, but cavey, or sort of down low and rather... potty? Or is there another 😅 I hope you've missed out on one of the quests tied to these areas mentioned, as they are quite interesting
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade this weekend, trying to finish it and the Intermission DLC before Crisis Core comes out. I should just have enough time to do it
Already reached the main story ending of GOW Ragnarok last weekend (awesome, unforgettable), and now I'm wraping up the post-game content. Same with Assassin's Creed Unity, that I will complete more side-missions and start the DLC. Maybe some Ys VIII if the time allows it.
I feel like I’m playing for the first time on my almost two years old PS5 this weekend. So stupid, I only just figured out I should try plugging my HDMI 2.1 port directly in my Qled instead of in my antique amplifier and besides that I discovered the Game Mode and some other settings. The result is just overwhelming, even with God of War (2018) for PS4.
PS5 - Callisto Protocol all weekend, whenever my copy decides to arrive today.
Series X - I'll browse Game Pass and download some new games to put this expensive new Seagate 2TB SSD card to use.
Switch - maybe some Persona 5 Royal
I'll probably continue Elden Ring.
Also am also very excited for the new Fortnite Chapter so gonna play a lot when the downtime ends after the event
@PenguinLtd Completely agree with you, great game but didn't quite have that magic spark of its predecessor, however there are some really beautiful and touching moments in both stories, a particular moment in Ragnarok brought tears to my eyes.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole. Hilarious game. Haven't laughed so much in a while.
@Ravix If the high up but cavey one you're saying it's the one in Liurnia, y'know the Albinaurics, then I've seen that one on my 1st. Down low and potty though...🤔 don't know if I've seen that one but maybe I have. So many hidden places even in Stormveil Castle, it's crazy.
Skyrim. At this point I feel like I need to move on 😬 to say this game has me sidetracked would be an understatement. I've not played much in the last few days anyway, but the last time I did a main quest was maybe two weeks ago 😆 probably enough time for someone to have sorted out a plan regarding diplomatic immunity. I'm level 27, and have ignored the last few level ups, so it's constantly flashing level up available 😬 I have SpellBreaker, Dawnbreaker, Grimsever and Blade of Woe, incredibly high one handed and pretty high destruction, and the masque of Clavicus Vile to fashion souls my way through the lands.
Now when dragons come to visit, apart from having to wait for them to land, it only takes about half a minute to annihilate then, so I have an incredibly large dragon bone collection stashed in a couple of crates, because they don't seem to be getting the message, "can't touch this" 👀
Apart from the odd anomalie of incredibly OP enemies (silver hand mobbed me 6 on 1 in one dungeon, and locked me in an endless struggle, until I popped a bunch of potions, running back and two to try and single them out, burn, slash, and run, repeat) it feels like I am the god of all Tamriel 😬
Just picked up the last of us part one!
@TheArt oops, yes got Liurnia and Limgrave mixed up in the old memory bank. Down low and potty is also Liurnia. Speak to my boy Alexander and then hopefully you stumble on it eventually. It's not in the easiest location for pottery to access, I'd say 😅
Which Limgrave village? Maybe I've not seen this one 🤔
Well i decided i was hoing to finally get into gow ragnarok after not having much time, was debating leaving it to play over xmas, i installed update and i had to re install it and it had courrupted my save file so have to start over. So that might be a sign to leave it till xmas lol. So not sure got a few games i could play, lego star wars half way through, or start costillo proticoll, or if gotham knights arrives today could pop that on, or something on gamepass bloody hell so much games and little time, but got 3 weeks of for xmas 😁, thats why i think gow r for xmas, so basically dont know yet haha
Edit: ended up playing costillo proticoll. After the reviews was a bit nervous, but actually really enjoying it, had to change the sensitivity of movement as was really slow. I think a lot of ppl who wanted to play this but were put off by the reviews will enjoy it, its no masterpiece but a solid enjoyable game, some bits are hard though.
I’m Still chugging my way slowly through ragnorok while taking extended breaks to play goat sim 3, capcom arcade stadium, xenoblade remastered and the forza horizon series.
Lazily switching between Spiritfarer, Punchline, and Onee Chanbara Origin. I think I’m in the mood to play Hogwarts, Ishin, and PSVR2, so just waiting…
Callisto protocol & genshin
Hopefully wrap up Ragnarok main story in between watching World Cup knockout round matches. Certainly enjoying the game as like others said it takes everything from 2018 and makes it a bit better but disappointed nothing in it has given me that WOW factor moment.
Probably a little eFootball as well since watching the matches will give me that itch. While far from perfect it’s nice having a free alternative to FIFA for the few times I really want to play some ps5 football.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Still playing God of War Ragnarok, which I’m trying to finish before The Witcher 3 upgrade drops. I’ve just started the “Forging destiny” quest, so I think I still have quite a way to go yet.
Forbidden west for me. About 30hrs playtime so far. I quite enjoy it, but its maybe a little worse than zero dawn so far. Still quite a bit to go so that could change
I will be continuing with the Outer Worlds, exploring every nook and cranny
I'm playing Sherlock Holmes chapter one so far which I like as it's made by the people who did the sinking city which I loved. However, the combat is a little rough around the edges. I've had a poor wannabe mobster stuck in between two doors trying to shoot me, stuck in a box, stuck in the floor. Basically, they are all trapped in quicksand in a building lol.
Im playing eldest souls with the free depths of the forgotten free expansion.amazing game. A instant classic one of my favorite games ever.a classic indie bosses rush game. The gameplay and art style is good.and the iconic dead cells with the dlc bundle.easily one of the best games ever made.excelent gameplay.amazing bosses.those pixel 16 bit graphics are cool.reminds me and make me miss the 1990s.i will be watching the world cup ⚽ Soccer france 🇫🇷 is going to play oui oui mon ami.been really fun.watching nfl football 🏈 my Pittsburgh Steelers 💛🖤 play.lets get another win.here we go.😀watching classic legendary sitcoms 📺 tv comedy in in living color.sanford and sons.family matters.the Jeffersons.good times.the wayans brothers.saved by the bell.and martin.word up son
@Ravix Haha you've definitely not seen the Limgrave one, it's called Ailing, I'll leave it at that. Yea met funny man Alexander a couple of times, are you talking the cave you get the Moonveil...
Mainly god of war but i'll be watching the world cup matches..this world cup has been full of surprises and its one of the best i've ever seen..routing for england obviously but i'm loving the under dogs biting the big boys..
Because I'm always unfashionably late to the party... I finally got around to starting Horizon Zero Dawn and it's starting to draw me in. Yeah it's pretty good, I admit it.
Have a good weekend peeps.
Oh and Come on England!
Just finished the story mode and 4th season pass of Chocobo GP for switch and also beat Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3 for the first time ever last week, also NightShade.
Currently I’m at 198 unique games beaten since 2017 so I’m gonna beat 1 more game on the NSO virtual console apps and after that I’m gonna play Persona 5 Royal as game number 200 seeing how Persona 4 Golden got me to list and rank all my games beaten since 2017 in the first place.
Taking a break from Dragon Age: Inquisition to play The Callisto Protocol. Enjoying it a lot so far.
@TheArt no, no. It's a village in Liurnia of the Lakes. Helps you advance some stuff I think. Definitely a location for some quest stuff. I think Alexander mentions it in dialogue as his old home, maybe. And gives a general direction of travel, but it's in a very awkward place to find. Worth it though.
Ooh, I collected a lot of incantations, and have seen the frenzied flame 🔥
Still on a Caribbean holiday in the excellent AC: Black Flag!
I've got the platinums for Spyro 1 and 2, I figure it would be downright rude not to go for the third one as well.
God of War Ragnarok with a side of God of War Ragnarok
@BlaBlaBla 13 Sentinels - you're in for such a good time!
I've been replaying The Last of Us 2 on PS5 and have been blown away once again by Naughty Dogs technical expertise, this looks as good as any next gen game I've played and probably better than most. All whilst having much improved gameplay over the original and for me a better story as well. Currently trying Grounded+ with permadeath per act, so we'll see how that goes.
As part of the PS stars programme I played a fair bit of The Messenger last night which was great fun and explored quite a bit on Dreams. Quite how Dreams doesn't get more coverage baffles me as it really is an excellent piece of software with some really fun games made in it, hopefully it gets PSVR2 support in the future
Pokémon Yellow Version (Game Boy) - Circled back to Viridian City to challenge for my Earth badge.
LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game (PlayStation 2) - Decided to go back and collect all minikits and gold bricks.
AlphaJax (Windows Phone) - Seems like the game no longer functions at all now. I'll drop this now and move onto the next WP game to play and delete
I've been trying out different Dr Beef mods for PC games on my Quest 2. For those who haven't heard of those mods, they play pretty much like native VR titles of (mostly older) games on the standalone Quest headset.
So I've got Quake 1 and 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Doom 1-3 and Half-Life up and running on my headset.
They all play great, and its incredible how sharp and nice they look in VR despite being 2 decades old and never being designed for VR in the first place.
I hope PSVR2 will get some official flatscreen to VR conversions, namely the Killzone and Resistance series would be perfect! The game are already out there, just need to make em VR!
@carlos82 TLOUPT1 story was great but disliked the ending, it felt incomplete and left you hanging, obviously telling you PT2 was inevitable. PT2 wraps everything up in the end at least, only I can somewhat understand the rage with Joel. I mean we've had Nathan Drake still swinging about, angry man Kratos still raging about and then just when people thought Joel is a new sorta PS mascot...bam!
Ahh, feels great finally being able to post here - I am a freshly squeezed PS4 Pro owner. Thankfully I purchased the games over the years when they were on sale anticipating the right moment to finally play them. So I will spend most of the weekend downloading my library. I want to start playing God of War more than anything tho, so thats probably the one I'll start with.
Still console-less so I'm playing Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent on mobile, its actually great!
Might make some progress on Dark Souls Remastered. Free time to play games has been at a premium for me the last couple weeks, so I can barely remember where I left my poor hollowed character. I believe he’s still stuck down in the Depths with poisonous rats and cursed basilisk frog creatures.
I might get some Resident Evil 4 in also. Lost my momentum with that one too and have left Leon stranded in a cabin being attacked by endless waves of Ganados.
Finally some time to play God of War Ragnarok and NBA 2K23. Finally!
@TheArt I can understand people being disappointed but I never felt he was that likeable in Part 1 and I'm not so sure where they could have gone with Joel story wise. Then the shift in characters helped to improve the gameplay as they're much more mobile than Joel is.
This actually ended up being my favourite Sony exclusive and I really enjoyed the story, in fact my Mrs who couldn't care less about games is actually really enjoying the story, with The Witcher 3 being the only other game she's paid any attention to.
I've been playing some pentiment and some stray. I've been enjoying both and think I'm close to wrapping both up but not sure what I'm going to dip into next. I've downloaded FF7 intergrade, ghost of tsushima directors cut to check out the dlc and need for speed unbound to check out the 10 hr trial on EA. Don't know what I'll check out next though. Have a good weekend folks
Ive earned 4 free months of PC Game Pass after being off there for a while, so time to catch on stuff i missed:
PC Game Pass
Guardians of the Galaxay
What a ridculously awesome game. I burned through the first 3 chapters last night. Captures the movies to a tee, has fantastic narrative, witty dialogue and a surprsingly enjoyable combat system. Good stuff.
Midnight Fight Club
Love a good beat em up and this one is a really fun variation on the formula with meaty skill tree. Narrative is thin, but the combat is where its at, too much fun to flawlessly take out a room full of goons with swift style.
Quest 2
Thrill of the Fight
If you want a VR boxing sim, this is the one. Creed and Knockout League have fun moments but cant compare. Yeah production is cheap, but the combat is a really satisfying and challenging experience..its not surprsing its developed by an actual boxer.
This weekend I am playing nothing. I’m getting married today and I can’t wait.
On a side note, I did manage to beat God of War Ragnarok (PS5) on Monday. Since I had several days to spare before my wedding and honeymoon, I decided to download Vampire Survivors via Xbox Game Pass since it’s not narrative heavy. Oh, boy - I shouldn’t have.
This game is quite possibly one of, if not the most addicting game I’ve played in years. It’s mind boggling to me how a game can be so simple, able to be played with one hand, and yet provide some the most adrenaline fueled moments in recent memory. I’m excited to really dig deep into this game whenever I have more time.
@carlos82 Exactly, I also wasn't sure were they could've kept going with the same character story wise in a survival horror game. They can easily spin new fantasy stories with Drake or Kratos but with realistic TLOU, I see them easily changing characters like Walking Dead etc.
Still playing through God of War Ragnarok. Having a ton of fun!
@BlackMayge congratulations to you!
I hope you have a fantastic wedding🙂
Determined to finally beat Xenoblade Chronicles 3!
@Zuljaras the Castlevania games (aside from being some of the best games around) had some dope cover artwork.
Enjoy!!
I am playing Gotham Knights. I snagged it on sale, and I am having more fun with it than I expected given the reviews. The combat is solid enough, and the story and moving around the city options are actually pretty great.
I want to play GOWR, but I know my sweet and wonderful wife purchased it for me for Christmas. Which is so awesome of her-but it means I have to wait! 😀
Playing through Spider-Man (2018), the complete edition available through PS+ Premium. The gameplay loop has me hooked, and traversal hasn’t felt this good since I played Infamous waaaay back in the day. Gonna try and start Midnight Sons but who knows.
I’d started a new play through of Bloodborne and begun Demons Souls for the first time but throughout the week my appetite for them tapered off. I’ll resume eventually but for now I’m wrapped up in Marvel stuff.
Oh and I’ve been playing a good amount of Marvel SNAP. After working through the season pass I’m still pretty hooked; 6 turns and the match is over. Makes it super easy to consume throughout the day.
I'm just about near the end of A Realm Reborn with my level 49 monk. I can't bloody wait to step into Ishgard to start the brilliant Heavensward story.
ALL OVER The Callisto Protocol! This was my most anticipated game of the year and it’s not letting me down. So far, through half the game already played, I can say it is absolutely Dead Space all over again and has very strong ‘Alien’ aesthetics to it in terms of how the corridors and other environments look. While it’s not QUITE as good as Dead Space (tough to outdo the OG), it is still very good, definitely fun and the combat is challenging. Not a terribly difficult platinum trophy either from what I can tell. I’d give it no less than a 7.5 / 10 and no more than a…….. 8.25 / 10.
@Lup There are not enough truly funny games out there. SP:FBW had me laughing all the way through. One of the few games where I actively decided to get the platinum to uncover everything the game had to offer. It was super fun (except for the last few toilet mini-games-those were actually pretty tough).
I wish the gaming industry would produce more truly funny games……..
I finished dmc 2 and liked it for the most part but Dante... I forgot what lucia had said to him but his response was just "whatever", and I couldn't stop laughing. Not the Dante I was expecting lol
Now Ill finally be going thru Valkyrie Elysium with the recent update. So far so good. The game is a lot prettier than I remember the demo being. And while the 1st chapter was kind of a slog, it quickly picks up when you start upgrading your weapons and skill tree unlocking new movements and attacks and start getting einherjar to fight alongside you, and meeting the characters of the story.
@Westernwolf4 MARVEL’S Guardians Of The Galaxy was hilarious and well written if you’ve never played that, and it’s a really good action game to boot!
@DETfaninATL Thank you so much for the kind suggestion, but I have absolutely played Guardians! You are right-great game, FUNNY game. And surprisingly heartfelt too.
SP: FBH is…….NOT heartfelt, as much as Cartman tries to tell you otherwise. 😃😃
Century: Age of Ashes, Sword of the Vagrant, FF VII Remake
I'm just hardcore casually playing some Slay the Spire and Marvel Snap until Witcher 3 PS5 update comes out. I recently beat GoWR and I don't have the brain power to hop into a huge endeavor. Also going to be watching lots of World Cup. Super stoked for Witcher 3. It will be my first play through ever.
@BlackMayge was looking for your post this week. Recalled you saying about getting married and finishing Ragnarok before that. Congrats on the marriage and finishing GOW before getting there!
Also goodness Vampire Survivors is great.
Wrapping up Ragnarok. Great combat with a great beginning and end from what I can tell. It’s really the middle, second act, that is a slog starting with a yak.
Beyond that maybe more Ragnarok in Valkyrie Elysium and picked up Callisto Protocol. Saw so much negativity over it this weekend in hoping it doesn’t spoil what I’m sure I will enjoy.
If time I’ll squeeze in Vampire Survivors and some GUN GRAVE.
@The_Moose I thought Dragon Age Inquisition was a nightmare on normal, tbh.
I finally finished Xenoblade Chronicles last week! Only took me 4 months. What a great game though. Now the main story is done and the pressure is off I am straight back to it dealing with all the side content I missed. No signs I’ll be done with it anytime soon.
Can’t remember when I last played a single player game over such a long time span without finishing it or getting bored.
Separately, and since I’ll be using Zwift it’s very much video game related, I got an indoor smart trainer so I can ride my bike indoors! Looking forward to exploring Watopia and getting into the e-racing scene over the winter.
Cost about as much as a PSVR 2 so let’s hope I made the right choice
@kyleforrester87 Haha that's what I'm hearing to be honest. It was harder earlier in the game than it is now but I'm going for the trophies and it does stifle the enjoyment somewhat. I don't have enough time or patience to do another run on casual I don't think. Even though it would be satisfying to obliterate mobs and bosses in two hits.
@Westernwolf4
I was expecting a few laughs, but the game it's non-stop laughing. I love it.
Was actually considering to go for the Platinum too, but when I read about that trophy I said no thanks.
But yeah, fun AND funny game.
Agree with you too. We need more actually funny games.
@The_Moose
It's not ideal but I think the way to go is cheese that one.
Up until getting to Skyhold is crazy hard. After that, depending on the build, it's easier than Normal.
@Dusk_Actual Yes. And their soundtrack is sublime
I really want to try Gundam Evolution. I’m not playing anything in particular at the moment. I’m in stasis til Sports Story comes out, I suppose.
@Lord_Malice Oh, I am having a blast! Kinda sad I waited so long before playing it lol.
@Lup I'm past Skyhold and I'm sure I'll manage it can just be a slog from time to time. I may come back to it down the line as a replay before DA 4.
1. God of War (PS5)
2. Destiny 2 (PC) just getting ready for next season.
Finally home, so me SteamDeck gets a break. But got 3 months of GamePass ultimate so might see if can get Xcloud working on it.
Hi there fellow gamers,
This weekend I´ll be playing Record of Lodoss War-Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, Lake and a bit more of Prodeus on my Xbox Series X and continue my jorney in Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5. Might just finish RoLW on sunday though.
I have also been dusting off my Vita and my 3DS playing Jak 2 and Dragon Ball Fusions on each system. Just to make sure they still work. And they do.
Chhers, stay safe and happy gaming weekend to us all
I bought a Japanese region free PS3 the other day and been playing Resistance: Fall of Man. Going to finish Ghostwire Tokyo in between that.
I have succumbed and playing Goat Simulator 3…
Callisto and trophy clean up for Ragnarok. I beat Hrolf, and Gna, and did the Muspelheim trails...but I fear that gathering thr collectible is going to be the hardest part for me.
Today this weekend Im busy with Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. Just last night i got the 5th Gym Badge and evolved my Machop to its 2nd form
@BlaBlaBla Better late than never!
I am playing Indivisible with the kids, which has some horrific checkpoints, but is generally great fun. My main title is still Trails From Zero. Can I finish it by the March release if Trails to Azure? I hope so!
PS5 - God of War: Ragnarök, Gotham Knights
Xbox Series X - Sonic Frontiers
