We don't know about you, but we're about to be buried in new games here at Push Square. Review season has well and truly begun, and it only gets more and more insane as we look towards the end of the month, and then February and March. So this weekend, let's all try and relax before the inevitable panic sets in...
Robert Ramsey, Deputy Editor
I've been enjoying my time with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on PS5, so I'll probably be playing a bit more of it this weekend. I'm looking forward to checking out the new DLC as well!
Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor
Last week I was at a loose end, but I suddenly have plenty to do, both for work and for myself. Aside from one or two games I'm playing for Push Square, I've elected to try my hand at Dragon Quest XI S. I'm not expecting to finish it, but I just have this compulsion right now to play a JRPG. I've got to give it a go!
Liam Croft, Assistant Editor
I'm in that awkward in-between stage where I've just finished a review, and I'm expecting another code to come through any day now. Therefore, I don't want to start anything new that's big or story-heavy. I think I'll give Fallout 76 a proper go. Again.
Aaron Bayne, Video Producer
I'm literally mixing it up this weekend, with some DJ Hero 1 and 2. Gaming like it's 2010 all over again.
Annette Magaña, Reviewer
I found this really obscure game called Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll. Time to find out what Zill O'll even means. If it doesn't grab my attention, then Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot it is.
Jamie O'Neill, Reviewer
I was sharp minded enough to show up to buy PS4 Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection in the current PS Store's January Sale, because not only is a whopping 90% sliced off, but the sale's chopped SNK's compilation's price down from £34.99 to an unmissable £3.49.
Scott McCrae, Reviewer
This weekend I'll be playing through the original Metroid Prime on the Steam Deck as well as still chipping away at the longer-than-expected Midnight Suns.
Simon Fitzgerald, Reviewer
This weekend I’ll be speeding my way through the remaining 2 islands in Sonic Frontiers in the hopes of earning myself the platinum. Other than that I may dabble in a few games of Battlefield 2042…yes you heard right — 2042. I just hope it’s improved since launch.
Now that we've had our say, it's your turn. Tell us all about your weekend gaming plans in the comments section below.

This weekend I will play some Hollow Knight.
Also started Serious Sam and it brings back wonderful memories!!!
And I intend to get back to Bioshock 1 as I last played it long ago!
Happy gaming!!!
Still playing God of War Ragnarok. It's an absolutely amazing experience.
I have a few weeks off work now. Will try to get through this before Forspoken comes out.
Finishing up 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐆, should get the platinum over the weekend.
It's been OK. Damning with faint praise, I know, but it's a definite " glad I bought it on sale " game.
Next up is one of the 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚 games when they drop on Thursday. Probably P4G first.
So hyped for these, they have a special place in my heart, especially 4.
Enjoy your weekend peeps.
I haven’t touched the ps5 this week (possibly 2 weeks) but I might jump back into GT7 later today.
A couple of suggestions from down in the forums for me this weekend. Another retro (sort of) FPS campaign with "COD4: Remastered" and then the massively divisive "DMC: Definitive Edition" both on PS4. Thanks to @nessisonett and @oliverp for the recommendations.
I haven't touched another game since Witcher 3 update. I had forgotten how outstanding the expansions are.
Finally going to try Deep stone crypt n destiny 2
I can almost see the end in Asscreed Valhalla so hopefully I’ll be done with it by Monday. beyond gaming I’m going to be digging some of my early to mid 90’s lego sets out of my parents basement.
I´ve been playing Life is Strange remastered. Absolutley love the games. The story, music and the choices. They hit you hard in the feels though. Last time I played life is strange first and the before the storm. This time I played them in the "correct" order, before the storm and then Life is strange. Makes a bit of a difference in how you experience them.
Also picked up New Tales from the Borderlands, will probably start playing it tonight. Beraking that up with some Apex Legends
Still AC Valhalla, Origins and GoT. I like the art direction in GoT, no wonder it won that category in 2020. Valhalla is the most immersive simply because you have a place to call home to sleep and friends like family. I just don't get open worlds where the player roams around forever, no rest mechanic to fast forward time etc, don't they ever learn from Rockstar. I'm glad HFW added that, albeit is just Aloy sitting and advancing time tsk sigh.
I played PlayStation games for this weekend. 🙂
1. Story of Seasons : Pioneers of Olive Town PS4
2. MeteoHeroes PS4
3. Doraemon Story of Seasons PS4
4. The Golden Compass PS3
I continue my daily activities and living together with Ralph as my husband in Story of Seasons : Pioneers of Olive Town.
I have finished MeteoHeroes in 2 hours. Such a very short and cheap 2D scrolling game with lack of interesting stuffs.
The worse part, if you accidentally pick Continue Game after you finished all the 9 stages, it will reset all the stages.
Dang ! 😤
I can replay again though, it's very short game but it gave me bad impression for a cheap looking 2D scrolling game that have 6 episodes of MeteoHeroes which ironically have more personality than the game itself.
I continued my process of Doraemon Story of Seasons as I have a plan to cut the farming activities and give more time in searching Junk Ores to buy Cupid Arrows in order to raise the villagers heart to trigger new scenes to finish the storyline.
First time I played The Golden Compass on PS3 as I have never watched nor even have interest with that movie before but I dared myself to get into never before have interest stuffs and I kinda quite enjoy the game from my first impression. But as I played the game further, I noticed during early 2000's era, a lot of movie tie in games have major content cuts to fit with the game capacity size during early PS3 era which I have some flashback with other movie tie in games that have a lot of major cuts so it was like watched incomplete movies due to skipped a lot of narrative parts to match with gameplay contents.
Im playing Elden Ring and Final Fantasy Reunion. Making progress on both as Persona 3 and Monster Hunter Rise are coming soon. Im considering getting Marvel Midnight Suns, is this worth playing?
Having got the platinum trophy for A Plagues Tale: Requiem, i am now playing through the campaign on COD MW2. I must say the MW story lines always satisfied me more than the Blops ones. Love me some Price and Ghost. But the UI for this game is utter trash. Took me forever to figure out just how to find the solo campaign area.
Wrapping up Evil West this weekend. What a charming old school game that deserves more support.
Also diving into Chained Echoes some more. Hard to believe one person made it.
If time I’m tempted to get Midnight Suns but haven’t taken the plunge. So more likely I’ll wrap up Bayonetta 2 or work on more Weird West.
Cyberpunk on ps5, it's OK so far. About 6 hours played. Less buggy than I thought, but also less fun so far. Hope it gets better or il drop it soon I think.
The wife finished playing pokemon so I am finally able to play Luigi Mansion 3, and so far it's a brilliant little game. Happy I got my switch back
I got Dragon Quest Treasures for Christmas and it was a perfect holiday game that really pulled me back into the series. It was the perfect gateway for my son too, his copy of Pokémon Violet is still untouched (we can await the next patch).
Now I’m playing DQ IV (DS) and this morning we’ve started a playthrough of DQ XI S together on Switch. I also picked up an art book that we’ve been going through together at bed time.
Enjoying Stray through Plus Extra:)
PS5
Horizon Forbidden West
Made it to act 3 over the week and will plow through when free this weekend. Got my weapons and skill trees to a good place. The combat, visuals and narrative are awesome, but the performances, dialogue and UI are just as grating as with the first game...dont know what it is, but that aspect still doesnt gel with me this time as well.
PC GAME PASS
Pentiment
Slowly playing through this one via cloud streaming on mobile. Pretty much passed the midpoint. A rich and involving narrative here, really engrossed with where the story is going...
QUEST 2
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Playing this title for the first time via Team Beef's fantastic mod. Its a pretty old school FPS i missed back in the day, but playing in VR gives the whole thing a fresh layer of fun, in what is considered the best Wolfenstein...good stuff.
I’m almost done with Persona 5 Royal and will probably either start Kirby and the Forgotten Land or River City Girls after.
Besides that I’m thinking of starting Gran Turismo 7. I also still have to finish High On Life and I have a lot of battlepass rewards left in Fortnite.
It’s a quiet month before February with Like a Dragon: Kiwami Ishin, Theathrythm Final Fantasy Final Bar Line, Octopath Traveler 2 and Hogwarts Legacy.
Happy jrpg and one piece fan here. Playing odyssey currently and loving it!
My next game is Stray. As my vacation continues, I'm clearing my checklist faster. I'm concluding Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Assassin's Creed India, and proceeding in Dragon Age XI S, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Lot's of gaming this month. And thank God for PS Plus Extra, as soon Devil May Cry 5 SE will joint it!!
Been mostly reading this week finished the book on Norse mythology, The Cat who saved books and halfway through The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs. Hopefully read more of that today.
As for gaming trophy hunting in Tales of Arise and indoctrinating my friends and family in Cult of the Lamb, like I used to blow them up in worms with sheep back in the day 😂
Have a great weekend everyone!
I will continue with my daily effort to Slay the Spire. Then try to collect some more Nightmare medals on Jydge. Then probably need to find a new 'main' game to power through.
Although... Lots of prem footie, NFL wildcard weekend and even new season of Formula E starting may well distract me a bit.
Have a great weekend and enjoyable game time peeps.
On my Ps5 I'm still playing Marvel Midnight Suns. That game is highly enjoyable. It's part social sim, with friendship levels and the day night cycles like Persona has and part strategy rpg with cards. It's my first card battle game and I can say it's highly addicting. Especially since you mix the 2 up and the battles are usually pretty short.
On my Xbox i just bought Sword and Fairy Together Forever and One Piece Odyssey. Played the demo of One Piece without ever seeing the anime, and enjoyed it so decided to give the game a go.
I finished the wonderful Tunic yesterday and started Guardians of the Galaxy so will be continuing with Starlord and Co this weekend. Like what I've played so far, great banter between the crew and the soundtrack is fantastic.
Very excited to start Neon White after hearing good things about it. Apart from that I’m still running around Fallout 4.
Unfortunately, my One Piece Odyssey pre-order hasn’t arrived yet. But I’m having a blast being a drunk cop on my 2nd Disco Elysium playthrough! I’ll probably just finish the platinum on that then play OP Odyssey next week. I’ll barely have time for gaming anyways with the NFL Play-Offs dominating my weekend.
Redout 2 Deluxe Edition.. this game is the bomb!!
Hey guys!
Marvels Midnight Suns one of the best games of '22, utterly superb- if you're on the fence about this, you should treat yourself - the combat is fantastic and the relationship building really shines
Gotham Knights ...really enjoying this game no its not as good as the Arkham games but it's great fun and has a lot of great lore tied into it. Plus it's a looker !
WRC Generations sublime rallying as usual but man, its hhaaarrrdddd
Have a great weekend guys and gals ❤❤
Having stopped to play the masterful God of War Ragnarok, I’ve now gone back to wrap up The Last of Us Part I. Man, it’s a great game. Sure, Sony messed up the pricing, but it’s still one heck of a game!
@RogerRoger same to yourself. Have a fab weekend.
Hopefully finishing off Sonic Frontiers which is good fun, it has it's problems but a great palette cleanser before either Wild West or Callisto!
Making good progress on Control I think, not finding the difficulty spikes as far as combat is concerned as much of a problem this time round - 60fps really helps.
I also got Spiritfarer on Switch, not played much but seems cool so far.
Halfway through Cult of the Lamb and loving it - I can see why it made so many GOTY shortlists.
More GT7, it has its hooks back in me - one I was amazed to see missed off so many 2022 lists in equal measure...
Im still playing the excellent yakuza like a dragon.the story.the graphics.the boss fights.the gameplay.all amazing.yakuza like a dragon is a really cool and good game.and star wars jedi fallen order.excellent souls like game.the graphics is really good.the story is wonderful.the boss fights is good also.watching the nfl playoffs.and watching the Boston Celtics 💚🖤 play.watching legendary sitcoms comedy 📺 tv show in whats happening now.sanford and sons.family matters.the Jeffersons.saved by the bell.and martin.word up son
I’ll be playing Children of Morta. Fantastic top down dungeon crawler with a great sense of progression despite being a rogue lite.
Pushing on with GRID Legends, mind numbing fun trying to stay on the racing line, I think I am enjoying it more than GT7 as there is no temptation to grind to buy cars, just a little grind temptation to repeat races to rack up miles to unlock some races
Played some Multiplayer Battlefront 2 with the boys last night, the game still holds up 👍🏽 I'll be facing my Destiny and trying to change fate in Ragnorok after work today.
Gearing up for MH Rise. Cant wait to play it in 60fps.
When not at work, will be playing some Vengful Guardian: Moonrider. It's certainly a bit easier than Blazing Chrome, and I prefer the Shinobi style to Contra. Also still enjoying Dragon's Dogma, which I dont know why I missed the first time around.
I'm playing MGSV the phantom pain. Gotta say, the more I play the better it gets. Also started fiddling with Assetto Corsa ultimate edition with my GT DD Pro wheel. It feels a lot different than GT7. I'm not saying better, just different.
Gwent errr I mean The Witcher 3 I cannot be stopped. It's just too good!
And I'm still in Ray Tracing mode with no issues, even in the cities! So I'm incredibly happy with that 😁
Nearly finished ragnarok now, i had 3 weeks off but was ill for most of it so didnt do much gaming but think im on the final mission now, although snooker is on so watching that then finish ragnarok. Got few other games to play as well to keep me going until hogwarts and vr2.
Edit. Finally finished ragnarok absaloutley amazing game, might just go for the plat now. Great story loved it, and after finishing it i wpuld say that it was my game of year.
WWE 2K22 MyGM mode... Taking a break from the "regular" games for a little while before Forspoken comes out. It's been a nice palette cleanser, although I'm also kind of addicted to it right now even though I'm still learning.
WRC 10 still.... am enjoying it... played a lot of 9 and bought it mainly for anniversary mode (and it was on sale helped)... But I am finding that mode proper hard cannot get passed the 3rd event also create team is locked behind this mode... strange...
I'm on the second to the last Chapter in Lost Judgment. Not sure if I'll finish it this weekend.
I've also been playing a lot of Splatoon 3 online, and finally playing Octo Expansion.
May also hop into VR as well.
I'm replaying Witcher 3 on death march. Drinking copious amounts of coffee and getting down to witcher business. Knocking the blocks off of monsters with a rapid heartbeat.
@thefourfoldroot1
I absolutely loved that when I played last year(?), There was just something really wholesome about it, it does get a bit easy towards the end when you have upgraded all skills though.
I actually have the weekend off with the kids. Thinking of hooking up some retro systems and introducing them to Megaman, Sonic Spinball and Double Dragon.
@sorteddan
Yeah, I’ve just got to (3,1) and it’s great. Love that no runs feel wasted, I hate rogue like games where you feel runs have been for naught. Good story and characters too, which the voice acting helps to establish. I think this is the only dungeon crawler where I haven’t eventually just started skipping dialogue.
@JoeDiddley how long did DQT take to do everything? I was tempted to add it to a present list as I want the physical copy and am concerned it will be harder to obtain and the physical may rack up in price.
Starting
1. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this morning
2. Monkey Island with my GF on her Xbox game pass is nuts.
Later on
Persona 3 almost finished it on PS3 and was hoping it would get trophy support looking forward to it but if you have gamepass look out for it as I believe it's coming to gamepass.
@Uncharted2007 I loved Sonic Spinball on the Mega Drive. Hope they enjoy!
Started playing The Pedestrian. About halfway through I think, and it's starting to get quite tricky.
LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game (PS2) - Finally at the final stage. Also need to clear the bonus stage and then it is 100% complete!
Tetris (Windows Phone) - I played alot of this during appointments this week.
Age of Sparta (Windows Phone) - Still playing this from time to time as well.
Mainly Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS5. I did try out the demo for One Piece Odyssey. I liked what I played so I will get that game eventually.
Warrior of Light
Geralt of Rivia
This weekend I’m back to the Sniper Elite 5 (Xbox Series X) grind. I played the game when it first released last year and loved it, but eventually moved on to other games. Now that I’m back, I’m tackling the DLC and collectibles I missed prior. I adore this game from top to bottom. I’ve seen some people finish the game in 8-10 hours and that blows my mind. I spend about two hours plus in one map alone, taking my time and exploring, methodically planning my kills, hiding all bodies without being seen, etc.
The level design is also superb, and each map is a huge sandbox that lets you approach how you tackle objectives. As you explore the map — if that’s how you decide to play — you’ll uncover a plethora of stuff: New starting locations, collectibles, intel that will lead to other objectives, great sniping locations, and more.
The DLC maps are just as fun and well thought out. I can see Rebellion took a page from the recent Hitman games and added more way to kill your target(s), and Hitler. You can use poison, dropping chandeliers, etc.; SE5 may not have the same depth as those games, but I think it most certainly plays better mechanically.
People can scoff at this if they want - I think this game is absolutely essential. To me, I find it to be one of the very best stealth games ever made.
I’m also playing the first great game of 2023: Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider (Nintendo Switch). Games like this are why I bought a Switch to begin with. The 16-bit pixel art is sublime, and really nails down the retro games from a time past. With that said - some of the controls do feel a little unresponsive at times, but maybe it’s because I don’t have a firm grasp on the combat and traversal mechanics just yet. But the upgrades are fantastic, and really remind me of the gem of a game: Cyber Shadow.
Nonetheless, I’m having a fantastic time with the game. I was a big fan of Blazing Chrome, and I’m glad to see this game delivered and then some. I’ll be playing this title for a while due to the replayability with acquiring all collectibles and ending the level with a good ranking score.
Got a PS5 for Christmas so I’m still working on Demon’s Souls, and loving it.
Finishing up my nightmare run in Trails from Zero for the last few trophies. This has been nothing but a masterpiece for me. Just a great cast of characters, the music is great, I love the world design. Combats incredibly fun. I love all the little bits of character interactions you get by visiting characters away from the story paths. But it's definitely the kind of sequel that wants you to play the games before it. Some of the characters are very apparently from the Sky trilogy and their arcs are resolved in this game without a newcomer even seeing said arcs actually played out. Would've been more impactful I think, if I had played the games before so I might hold off on Azure to just emulate them or something
In the meantime, Im gonna finally start Crisis Core. I've been wanting to play this for the longest time. Can't believe I'm actually gonna get to it this weekend after all these years lol
Don’t really have anything to play right now except Modern Warfare II MP. Just finished GOD OF WAR: Ragnarok (amaaaaaaazing!!!!) and I’m waiting for Dead Space to show up, so I’m in between games right now.
Vengeful Guardian: Moonriders
PS5 - Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
Switch - NieR Automata
Xbox Series X - Ridge Racer 6
Finally got around to playing Godfall (and finally figured out all the logistics to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on PS) and I have to say it's such a fun game. There is some sort of plot which I am not really following but the combat, visuals, color themes, menu systems and music/sound are all stellar. Very addicting looter shooter. I am not playing end game first, but starting from the beginning of the story. I love how you can revisit huge areas to grind, level and find more secrets. It strikes a great balance between making you feel like an absolute slayer but keeps you in check with challenging fights. Very similar to Diablo where you can boot up and just have a blast blasting. I feel kinda bad I got into this game so late, since I think development has stopped. This game (in it's current state) deserves more acclaim. Highly recommended.
Also started Lego Star Wars - The Skywalker Saga and it's such a delight, mix of open world and linear missions, always tons to do and it looks/sounds amazing on PS5. Have not really played previous Lego games, and there seems to be a lot of menus and systems that are not fully explained well, but it's so fun I don't really care. I was also expecting a wacky Star Wars spoof, but it's really a dedicated and thrilling homage to the film series with just a slight sprinkle of non-canon humor. Not sure if there is an Epic Big-Budget Cozy Games genre, but this one nails it, so delightful!
As always, spending way too much time in Disney Dreamlight Valley, took my tree and all my indoor/outdoor Christmas decorations down this week and doing a lot of Winter redesigning in the Frosted Heights biomes while finishing up the current battle pass before it ends
Finished crisis Core on ps5, really enjoyed it - now replaying OG FFVII on Switch + a bit of Eiyuden Chronicles Rising.
Cyberpunk for me and i'm also playing my bass guitar and rocking out to a bit of audioslave and rage against the machine..have a great weekend folks 👍
Playing Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Hoping to get it finished before Forspoken comes out.
Also played the demos for Bramble: The Mountain King and Tuesday Morning. Both were decent, but janky.
Shredder's Revenge (Switch) Finally got my copy from LRG, will be cracking it open this weekend.
Breath of Fire (Switch) Started this one up a few months ago when I was checking out the NSO games. One of my favorite RPGs of the SNES Era.
Bioshock (Switch) Enjoying my trip through Rapture again
Two PS5 upgrades - Kakarot and Witcher 3
Broke down and bought The Last of Us Part 1 for the PS5 for Christmas. Giving it a play through now before the show starts. I’m hoping to finish in a week or two then be able to watch the first two or three episodes back to back. Just the load screen alone brings back a ton of memories.
I bought Dakar Desert Rally on the January store sale, will be giving that a crack. And still chipping away at Twilight Princess for the Gamecube. Enjoy the weekend!
I've been using this phrase a lot, but I'm reluctantly enjoying Calisto Protocol, it's linear to a fault and the combat is a bit rubbish but I'm having a good time for the most part... Once I'm done I'll trade it in and most likely never think of it again.
Destiny 2 grinding it hard. Gamer Glasses work for fast paced action without them i spin out after a while tested and working.
Playing catch up i wish i started destiny 2 when it first came out as i've missed so much its now season 19.
Just finished Forbidden West and now working on Ragnarok, desperately trying to clear a backlog before the new titles arrive this year and sit in my library 😂
