Hello all,

I'm having a charging issue and a USB hub issue. I bought my wife a PS5 in December, plus two custom PS5 Aimcontrollers. One controller was used for 2 months without issue, the other sat in a drawer 2 months waiting on button stickers so she knows which button is which. When I finally got around to using it this month, the initial charge took 10-12 hours. Yellow light blinked the whole time indicating it was charging. I tried using MY Aimcontroller braided cable connected to MY USB port and it charged in 3 hours. I contacted Aimcontrollers and they sent me a new braided cable as we both assumed it was faulty. I just drained down her controller and it appears to have the same issue with HER new cable, on HER USB port. I'm using both USB's on the rear of the PS5 only. Settings/Energy saver is set to supply power "always". The controller shows the normal blinking yellow light like it is charging in rest mode while connected to her rear USB......but when 3 hours passed today it still had no bars, and with cable removed it showed "low battery" on the screen. I just switched her new cable to MY USB port to verify that maybe it's the USB port. If that doesn't do anything in 3 hours, I'll switch the cables and use MY cable on her USB to verify they send me another faulty cable. In the meanwhile.......
I plan on hooking up a PS5 friendly headphone amp to this thing and read USB hubs work fine on the PS5. I ordered an Insignia powered USB 3.0 hub from Best Buy and tried connecting her controller to it on both rear USB ports to see if the powered hub itself would charge the controller and when entering into rest mode, it stopped charging the controller entirely. Without the hub, connected directly to the rear USB, it flashes yellow indicating it is charging. Do controllers not charge through USB hubs? Did I buy the wrong hub? I see hubs geared towards the PS5 online, but none made by Sony. I was hoping to connect both controllers and my new headphone amp to this hub on a rear USB but it's not looking like that's going to work. Any suggestions? TIA
PS: We normally play plugged into the console, but for the few times we do play Bluetooth, it would be nice to have a functioning charging system. I also have not tried either of our Sony DualSense controllers/cables to duplicate this charging issue.

Also, according to the product page, the hub state:

5 V, 900 mA output from each port
Offers consistent power or charge to your connected USB devices.

So not sure what the problem is when PS goes into rest mode.

Update as of 7pm. Controller did not charge with her cable on my rear USB so it may be another bad cable from Aim. Since I've already charged this controller on MY cable once before and know it works, I decided to pull out the factory Sony cable and have it charging on HER USB port. If it charges, I know it's the cable. On another note, I've read lot's of info on Redditt and other sites, and have looked at many different hubs. Someone on Redditt stated the hub needs to be USB 3.1. Keeping it short, I ordered another hub. USB Type-A 3.1/3.2, Gen 2 that says it's PS5 friendly, and supports gaming controllers.....says 5v and is powered but doesn't specifically say supports charging though so we'll see. Startech only has Type C and Sabrient doesn't appear to make any 3.1 USB hubs. All others were either Type C, 3.0 or didn't support charging. A few Redditt user were recommending Anker, but the only one's I find state they're not intended for charging. The one I ordered is a no-name brand (ikuai). I'm avoiding USB Type C as I use that port for PSVR2. Worst-case scenario I'll run my Amp from the front Type-A and keep both controllers plugged directly into the rear Type-A, leaving my Type-C available for the VR2. Tomorrow I may try to plug in my insignia hub into the front type-A with controllers just to see what happens when in in rest mode.

Update as of Friday, 5pm. Someone on a Facebook group recommended the Atolla Powered USB Hub, atolla 4-port USB hub with 4 USB Data Ports and 1 USB Smart Charging Port, USB Splitter with individual On/Off Switches and 5v/3A Power Adapter ($16 Amazon). This Hub ended up being the only one that worked, but only under passive USB power. It charges both controllers in rest mode. None of the 3 hubs I tried worked under their own 110v AC/5v DC supplied power. I use the insignia 4-port USB 3.0 hub on two pc's without problems ($22.99 from $49.99 Best Buy). I figured this would have worked but it didn't, powered or under BUS power. The ikuai 4-port USB 3.1/3.2 Gen 2 hub advertised it worked with gaming consoles, but also did not work under power, or BUS power in rest mode ($26.99 Amazon). I was actually shocked when the Atolla worked without DC power......but I'm curious to see what happens with the USB switches when I power it off and back on. Hopefully it retains which USB is being used. I spent 2 days killing the batteries on two controllers and troubleshooting USB cables which are plugged directly into the rear USB's. I won't be able to play with the hub more until tomorrow or Sunday most likely.
