Hello,
So I've given up trying to play Fallout 4 on PS5 since, despite doing everything I can imagine, I just can't seem to get my old save games to work, meaning that buying the game just so I can toy with the settlements has been a complete waste of money (more ranting available on request).
The alternative is getting hold of some compatible save game files which have settlements available but doesn't involve the interference of quests or having to play the whole thing again (I've played it to death years ago on my PS4). Does anyone know of any such save game files, considering they would need to be compatible with PS5 and the digital download?
Sorry to hear your predicament friend. I've had the same issue on PS5, it sees it as a new entry with new playtime count and the like and despite my PS4 saves being on the ssd it refuses to recognise them. I hope you can figure something out, and please let me know if you do 👍
Sorry that wasn't particularly helpful.

@Ibsen3 From what I have read, if you have tried backing up your saves to USB on PS4, then installing on PS5 and that hasn't worked, it maybe the F4 disc version has a 'different' format to F4 'digital' version and many have had to restart.
I don't know if others can let you install a 'save' from their game - it maybe 'profile' locked to their account - after all, they 'created' their Character and their Fallout world could be very different to yours - items they have moved, the way they built their settlements etc is going to be 'unique'.
Sony's implementation of BC doesn't feel as well thought out or implemented as well as it could have been - almost an afterthought or maybe suited their Business model to 'sell' upgrades and/or remasters. Maybe they thought it would increase engagement or encourage people to 'upgrade' from PS4 versions if they have a new set of Trophies to earn - the same 'trophies' as PS4 maybe, but these are the PS5 versions - whatever 'reason', it has often had more steps to get working and/or doesn't always work between the different SKU's.
From what I have seen, not that I have tried myself, is that PS4 disc and PS5 digital saves are completely incompatible with each other. There isn't a 'PS5' disc release (or Series X for that matter) of Fallout 4 so I would think that its not going to work. I would check to see if your PS4 save isn't corrupted and/or try playing it via BC or on PS4 rather than the 'PS5' version and try backing up a 'new; save to a USB if you can.
It does seem unlikely based on what I have seen - but I admit most of the info I can find on it is several years old now...
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
Hello,
Sorry for the discussion thread necromancy but it should be noted that I never found a solution to this problem and therefore was truly ripped off for my digital purchase of Fallout 4. I never dreamed that this was possible and remain pretty disgusted.
As a footnote, I will certainly be going back to PC once my PS5 has had its day. Combined with the infamous 'creation club' and the inaccessibility of the modding scene, it's put me off console gaming as a whole. These days, you always pay a price for convenience.
