I have a Samsung QLED and was so impressed by the HDR in TLOU2 that I brought the disc over to a friend's house to show him.
He has a Samsung NU8000 - not a QLED but still an HDR capable 4K TV.
Strangely, when we went through the initial setup, his system never took him through the HDR parameters that were offered me, where you look at several symbols and adjust sliders until they become barely visible. He had a single screen with an HDR toggle, brightness, and contrast, whereas I had several screens of setup.
The game was fully patched, we made sure the PS4 Pro was set to HDR auto, and the TV itself was in an HDR mode.
But although the HDR was toggled on, the image was of decidedly lower quality, and it didn't look like HDR to me. His TV doesn't have the same specs as a QLED, but I was expecting better. Had we been able to set the same sliders I saw, I think it would have solved the issue.
I had this when I first got my TV. It's most likely that only certain HDMI ports are HDR enabled. For me HDMI 1 and 2 aren't, oddly, it's only HDMI 3. It's possible he either hasn't tried a HDMI game before but did and didn't realise it wasn't in HDR.
