Topic: PS5 keeps shutting down

I got a PS5 at launch. It's been perfectly fine until a few months ago. It would get really warm, almost hot, when playing I guess system intensive games like BG3 or NMS and just shut off. I purchased a cooling base for it hoping that would help, and it seemed to for a little while. But then the shutting off started happening again. So I also got a desk fan to blow on it along with the cooling stand, but even that doesn't help. BG3, NMS are both digital, but it also happens with Eldenring and Skyrim and all other disc based games I have. Obviously it's now out of warranty, so I'm not really sure what to do now. The last few times it has shut off it wasn't even warm. I've tried literally everything I can with booting it up in safe mode, and have even completely reformatted it twice now. Is this common on day one models? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I would prefer not to have to buy another one considering this is just over 2 years old. My PS3 and PS4 are old as ***** and still work fine, but this? It's essentially a $600 paperweight at this point. Any advice? This got removed from r/PS5 and I could really use some help.

Edit: I have cleared the cache, freed up space, tried horizontal/vertical, opened it up and cleaned dust out, reformatted, and everything else I'm able to do, so it's not any of those things.

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like you tried everything I could think of and then some. Only thing else I can think of is the internal fan is not working properly, but it seems to be more than that. Maybe try replacing that. Although the more you keep buying the more it makes sense to put that towards a new ps5. If I see anything else about this to help I'll post it here

Sounds like some thermal paste has given up the ghost or there's an electrical short occurring?

I was thinking thermal paste or something along those lines. It only seems to happen with "system intensive" games, as my daughter can play Minecraft or Roblox all day no problem, but I get maybe 20 minutes on No Man's Sky. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I appreciate the responses so far.

I'd recommend that you ask Steve from TronicsFix, he might know the answer.
