Hello. If you are reading this, this is not a "Sony sucks" or hater post or anything, this post is about my, and other's, personal experience.
There are TWO main problems. First one is that Headset will literally CRACK at 2 weak spots on its frame, and this isn't niche problem, in fact this happened to me and a lot of other people. Just google "Sony Pulse Elite Crack" and you will see for yourself.
Secong major, also a mass problem, is that the headset disconnects randomly from PS5. And it happened to me too, many times. And to other people, you can google it. And it is unfixable, using all options for reset do not help.
I had to go back to my 3 year old Sony Wireless Platinum that served me like a true Chad. And now I am in the process of trying to refund them and use the money to buy another headset. But I might encounter problems because I threw away the box in a first week. Mind you, not "exchange for a new of the same model", but refund for money. Because even if I replace my Pulse Elite for another Pulse Elite, it will have exact same issues.
I hope a lot of people will see this post and will be spared of spending 150 USD and then being disappointed.
By the way, this is probably the biggest pain for me - being disappointed in Sony once more. I thought they would do amazing headset as they always were pros in Headphones.
Oh, I forgot to mention the third major issue that is relevant for people who sweat or who live in humid areas - Pulse Elite uses a new speaker technology called "Planar", and in high humidity, those speakers start making faint noise that resembles slow soda sparkling, even when turned off. It is very annoying and also another disappointment. I mean, my premium Headphones making noise themselves just because of the weather? Bah.
@Bivshtex007 luckily, I got my first PS5 pulse headphones for free due to a delivery c*ck up. I've barely worn them in 3 or 4 years. They are a stupid shape, they don't sit properly on the head, the sound is just not good at all, I doubt it is on any "gaming" headphones. It's so empty and tinny. Maybe compared to a Β£20 headset they are okay? But I don't know how people actually like them.
So I can fully back up your "don't buy" alert haha. Its not worth falling for the marketing for gaming headphones, and these Sony ones, specifically.
Give me a premium set of headphones connected to a TV any day, that is all I need if I want good sound immersion.
@Ravix what does βpulseβ even mean here. Like your headβs pulse? π

@Yousef- Ask SIE design and marketing team π I guess they meant it as like a sonar or pulse of sound. Ooh but maybe a laser? Lasers are cool π π but yeah, more than likely it's: a single vibration or short burst of sound, electric current, light, or other wave.
I mean, it's incredibly tame name and an okay use of language when you consider some of the translations that come out of Japan for games and other game related stuff π π π
Maybe, as I didn't capitalise the word. it read weird π but the title of the thread is Pulse to be fair, so
@Bivshtex007 ahhhh thatβs why itβs so pricey. That explains the frustration then.

Very frustrating that this is STILL an issue. I had one of these headsets for PS3 where the headband snapped even with limited and careful use
The design on these things are fragile as hell and I wouldn't be surprised if they were on the end of a lawsuit if this was a more popular product line
@roe tie it in with the fact they don't have Bluetooth built in for audio like they do for controllers so the dongle gaming headset market can exist in the first place π
If a tiny phone can manage to send and receive audio through bluetooth surely massive consoles could ππ
@roe Planned obsolescence. Also what I hate about Headphones, is that most of them are foldable at 2 or even 4 points. That is usually the weak point which increases probability of breakdown.
I found one headset that has very good reviews in terms of durability, functionality, sound quality and reliability, but they are foldable. I will attach link for those who want to check themselves. I have NOT purchased them yet, and this is NOT an advertisment
@Ravix I consider this part of PS4 and PS5 as a genuine representation of "SOYny", greed and "No More For The Players". What was the problem to add 1, maybe even 2, Bluetooth modules specifically for wireless headphones? They are very cheap. And as you said, pocket smartphones are capable of high-quality, two-way connection with BT headphones. And it would be incredibly useful.
Ofc I know why they did, is to promote the sales of the so-called "Gaming Headsets" that use dedicated USB Dongle.
Very greedy.
@Bivshtex007 if you do just want ones that aren't actually dedicated gaming headsets but are good for gaming... and also don't fold: the ones I currently use just rotate at the cup for storing flat in their case.
Also not an advert, although Richer Sounds are a quality store for all your TV and Audio needs hahaha π
I nearly went for the all metal Px8, but the logic in me couldn't justify spending more than an actual console for audio π but the all metal ones have even better quality.. drivers? And obviously there isn't the plastic element, which would be nice. I do still wonder what that next level of sound would have been like if I'd gone for the px8 πͺ
Most important thing though is they are the comfiest damn headphones I've ever worn, and the depth of sound is much, much better than gaming headsets or other headohones i've had, it is like a completely different experience altogether and you hear more levels of sound you never heard before.
@Bivshtex007 first time hearing about it tbh π tbf 300 quids isnβt an abnormal price for good quality sets but setting yourself to 220 is understandable if youβre not too sure though I set my budget for decent audio sets a little higher since sometimes theyβre a bit more expensive in kuwait and the 100-200 range stuff is still questionable sometimes especially with terrible durability π π

@Bivshtex007 apologies, it is a UK based company π¬ I don't know what those would be in the US, then. Sometimes the US gets tech a bit cheaper, so maybe it's worth looking out for sales.
If you're in no rush then do as much research as possible to get a couple of pairs that suit your needs in mind and wait for black Friday. Knowing what you want and the general prices before it starts is the best way to get a good deal and maybe get something a level up than you would normally.
There's probably a complex algorithm of price spent, and how often you need to replace the item too. But yeah, never spend more than makes sense to you. Hope you find some good cans for gaming π
