I am now well and truly a VR convert, absolutely loving the feels of being in the game.
However it's concerning that VR has kind of gone into hiding outside of enthusiast spaces and the very few titles that have sold well enough to garner appreciation in a business sense.
Going back to flatscreen gaming is a regression and it's not enjoyable for my single player thrills. So please Sony bring PSVR 2 to the PS5!!!

Honestly I don't think it will stick around. It seems to be having the same problem the Kinect had. Very few titles make use of the technology and not that many people are really going for it. I mean there isn't a must have title for it.
It is a niche thing and that's all it's going to be.

Astrobot is the only truly essential title and even then without prior knowledge of VR you can't understand from Screenshots. But there are a ton of amazing games already. Honestly I can't enjoy normal gaming anymore VR just opens everything up when done right.

@themcnoisy Nope I have not tried it nor will I for a variety of reasons.
First off I am not going to shell out the asking price for such a niche device
Second and the big one here is everytime I view anything in 3D I get a migraine from the effects. I can't even go see movies in 3D because of it so yeah VR is a no no for me.
But personal reasons aside I know nobody who owns one or even wants one. (Aside from here). None of my friends, co-workers or game store employees in my area seriously. I never seen an advertisement for it besides when if first came out.
So to me it just seems like it's a niche thing like Kinect

@Tasuki And that is exactly what I am worried about. If you are not going to pony up as a big gamer then like minded gamers right down to casuals aren't gonna either (actually that may be a good thing). Which is why I'm concerned we won't see a Psvr2. And that would be a disaster in my opinion.
Your migraines won't help. I'm seriously motion sick and I can't play many VR games. But I also think that inadvertently makes me more immersed in the games I can enjoy as my brain genuinely thinks I'm in the game. It's not pseudo 3d either, like in movies or on the 3ds. In fact all those things do PSVR a disservice as using those things as a VR benchmark is folly. It's a million times better.

I hope so too. The possibilities are endless. I really enjoyed my time so far with VR and look forward to more. I'm excited for more Astrobot and trying Deracine. It's in it's infancy, but has already well surpassed what the kinect and Move ever had in terms of support. It creates a perfect environment for more narrative focused gaming that doesn't rely on violence (or not as much). Summer Session feels like a predecessor to something really good in terms of how VR makes just narrative more compelling than it would be in non-VR.
I get non-VR thrills from normal games, but VR feels needed going forward. There are a few games I would love to see get remade in VR on PSVR2. RDR2 and FFXV especially stick as cool titles for VR remakes. They need better hardware first though.
I think they will. But I don't think it will be there at launch. If the PS5 comes out in the first half of 2020, I could see an improved PSVR being released as early as late 2020. But I think it'll take a year or so. It would be neat if the current headset works with PS5 as well, and if it's all BC, I don't see why not. That being said, I wouldn't say no to an Astro Bot sequel in the meantime!
I've got a feeling that VR is only getting bigger. Not only for games. So I think it would also be in Sony's interest to be a part of that market.
@Jaz007@Octane I never even considered BC for my current headset, good call and a nice inbetween if we do see Psvr2.

@themcnoisy The PS5 would be able to render more objects, more details, etc. It's just the resolution that would be a bottleneck with the current headset. Still, I could see it being a big improvement nonetheless, even without a PSVR 2.0.
No doubt in my mind that we will get PSVR2 on PS5.
Won’t be at launch though. Reckon late 2022 is a good shout.
PS5 at £400-450 & PSVR2 at £350-400 is just too much to ask all at once.
PSVR ain’t going anywhere. Back in August PSVR crossed 3million units & software was at 22million. https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2018/08/psvr_passes_three_mill...
After the holiday season, which saw renewed interest I imagine it’s at well over 4million & has outsold both Oculus & Rift combined.
PSVR owners are buying games, that on its own will sustain the platform & pay towards R&D for a next-gen peripheral.
Not only that, Sony from a publishing standpoint are also succeeding with 6/10 best selling PSVR games being Sony published. https://mobile.twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1088206222132...
Sony’s Manchester Studio is believed to be working on a VR title. I reckon that will be our next big game & shown off whenever Sony holds its next presser.
I reckon 5-7 million for gen1 PSVR would be good. I reckon a lot of people are holding out for more powerful hardware.
Astro Bot 2 definitely should be saved as a PSVR2 launch title.

@Tasuki
Really nothing to do with Kinect though.
There are quite a few VR devices and more coming. A lot of games already , compared to kinect. That thing is dead isnt it?
Its true its not for every one but its clear enough it has a neat future imo.
The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.
@Octane Sweet. Again I never considered that either. That will breathe more life into VR for sure.
@Fight_Sora_Fight Cool. I wish I could share your optimism. I don't know if 5-7 million units is a success for Sony. I hope they are on the same page as us and make a successor.
@JJ2 I agree that I want PSVR to have a future but @tasuki shares the thoughts of the mainstream market on this topic and his analogy is fair. I love PSVR I can't believe how good it is for £200 with games. An absolute steal. 10 years ago any like experiences would cost hundreds of thousands. But it could become the next obsolete plastic piece of junk. (everyone who uses PSVR knows that isn't the case though)
Thanks everyone for getting involved

I’m kind of hoping VR headsets will be treated more like TVs. In that the old one will keep working. I don’t particularly want to replace mine just because the new one comes out. But I would still like to be able to play the VR games that take advantage of the power of the PS5.
@Ryall That's a good call. I would upgrade out of the blocks though as I have a mk1 headset, It's a touch too blurry for me so even a slight bump in resolution and a few extra degrees fov and I'm there.

Is PSVR compatible with VR games on PC? If not, that would help as well I think. Offer a cheap VR headset to the PC crowd would certainly help VR grow. I mean, DS4 controllers work with Steam games, so why not their VR headset?
@Kidfried@themcnoisy@Ryall The issue with using older VR sets is that they need to design the game around the low resolution. Reading text, especially in the environment, more details on items, puzzles, how things look in general, could all be devistated by a low resolution it’s not meant for.
This is a difficult angle to reply to as it's all subjective, but for me, there are easily 20 (probably more) must have titles already.
VR's only difficulty is getting people to try it. Videos or reviews just don't work. People need to stick the hat on for themselves.
Everyone that has tried mine loves it, even non gamers. 3 of my friends have bought one based on their experience with mine.
The amount of people that tell me VR is **** to then go on and say their experience with VR is on their Samsung Gear or Google Cardboard is staggering. Those two don't even compare to PSVR, Rift or Vive.
Personally I couldn't care less about VR. I am not able to stand any more through disability and really do get migraines and nausea from VR in the past. I admit that I haven't tried 'modern' VR - the last time I tried was with Nintendo's Virtual Boy and that was incredibly painful to use. I also got migraines from those Tomytronic 3d handheld games (showing my age...)
3million units, whilst that is quite a high number, equates to around 3.5% of the total PS4's sold. I know some people will have bought more than 1 console so the actual percent of people with VR maybe closer to 4% which isn't a 'great' uptake. Some of that may be down to costs, some of it may well be down to the games available and some of it may well be down to a lack of interest. What is telling though is that PSVR is the most popular VR gaming headset (or at least it was) so even if you include Vive and Occulus Rift, the percentage of gamers with access to a VR headset is 'extremely' low. That may well be a reason why there isn't a lot of interest from developers to make games for it. I am not saying there isn't some 'great games' by the way but it seems that there isn't that 'must have' library to tempt people to fork out the cost of the headset, camera and any additional peripherals (like the move controllers for example - I know they aren't 'needed' but some games are 'better' with these).
As I said, I am not really interested in VR gaming for the reasons I mentioned above so I couldn't really care less if VR gaming isn't part of the PS5's features. That being said, I would certainly be interested in VR from a social aspect. Being disabled (as well as other health issues) means I can't exactly get around easily, can't exactly go visiting places of interest or do many things that a lot of people get to do. VR would be excellent for people like me as well as abled people to socialise, to visit places of interest etc. I would love to attend PSX, E3 or Gamescom and with VR I could. I could have the best seat in the house (as everyone else with a VR headset could as well) and watch the briefings as if I was there with a bunch of VR friends, chatting and socialising together via party chat. I could visit museums, art galleries etc, go to a Virtual cinema with friends and watch a movie, go to a concert, festival of music, theatre or stadium to watch the champions league or World Cup final without leaving my house - either on my own or with friends with VR headsets. Even going to a virtual pub with friends is a possibility and play pool because my Virtual avatar can stand up and get around the table to play pool. The possibilities are endless and you don't get people looking at you as a cripple in a wheelchair. You are on an even playground so to speak with everyone elses avatars. Whether this still gives me Migraines and/or nausea, I don't know but the fact its a lot slower paced and a lot of it can be very static - like being seated in just one place to watch something - be it a movie or some live event like PSX, a sporting event or rock concert for example. Even 'walking' round a gallery or museum isn't exactly fast paced to really give you motion sickness. You could even use it to do some Shopping - whether its the domestic grocery shopping, some gift shop of a Museum or concert you attended virtually or any store really just by walking round and dropping items in your basket. You could be a virtual tourist in a virtual New York or Melbourne and walk into a store and buy something that gets shipped to you - much nicer than just doing this on a laptop/tablet etc because you get to actually visit these places - albeit virtually. I would love to go to the Grand Canyon and walk on that glass bridge and look down - I bet that would work great in VR too. Point is for me, VR gaming is likely to be extremely limited but VR itself could be a life changer for many people too if it isn't just limited to gaming.
Whilst I have no interest in VR at the moment and couldn't care less if it does come to PS5, I still hold some hope that VR is not just a gaming peripheral but a Social device that offers us the chance to connect in a virtual world. PS Home in VR for example with the opportunity to visit any place in the world, even 'game' inspired worlds, go to the cinema, museum, gallery, theatre or major sporting events, concerts etc etc etc. If they did something like this, I would probably buy VR straight away
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@BAMozzy To be fair, I think veryone on the planet get migraines from the virtual boy. Most games allow you to keep seated too. While some like Astrobot benefit from getting for a new angle, or may help with immersion (Arkham VR and Raw Data), I think it would worth giving it a shot if you get the chance. They also have 360 YouTube videos that do stuff like walking across a glass bridge at the Grand Canyon. There might be the lower resolution to consider, but more expensive PC VR sets probably don’t have that issue. I would say half of what you’re looking for is there in way. I know they have VR chat rooms and stuff on PC.
Something like Skyrim with a high resolution (don’t even bother with the PS4 versions resolution) might also help with wanting look at landscapes and such, even if they’re not the real ones you want.
