My PS3 hard-drive is just too small at 500 GB for going mostly digital. The problem is despite the fact that I'm pretty knowledgeable with tech, installing parts is another matter entirely. My depth perception is too messed up to attempt to install a hard-drive without risking damaging the fully functional console. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Something went wrong with my backup when I upgraded mine (I then had to re-download everything), but I didn't have any issues removing the old and slotting in the new.
Can't you use an external harddrive? If you are uncomfortable about swapping out an internal one like I was on my PS4 using an external one is alot easier.

on topic @Reanfan7 it would depend on where you live but any decent computer shop should be able to do it BUT it's a really simple job to do yourself all you need is a USB stick with the latest System Software on it and just follow the instructions in the link @daveisbored posted and you should be fine

@FullbringIchigo@belmont Thanks for the tips you guys! Perhaps I'll give it a go! Anyways @Tasuki I wish I could use an external, but the only good that'll do is storing and playing video and music files and I only have about 12 GB worth of those so there's really no point in using one.
@Tasuki@Get2SammyB since my question has been answered could you please lock this thread? I don't want to delete it in the event that someone else wants to know the answer to the same question!
As an owner of a website myself I know bandwidth is important especially if overage costs the site owner more money, which is why I ask for certain cut-and-dry threads that I open to be closed once answered.
@Reanfan7 Problem is though if someone has a similar question they will just make a new one so locking threads wouldn't help much. Now if they post something here after the six months of the date of the last post then we will lock it.
So in other words you don't need to ask for threads to be locked.

If we're talking about a PS3 HDD, make sure you use a precision screwdriver. The screws for the PS3 drive are extremely soft and strip easily. You need to apply pressure to the screw using the precision screwdriver, then rotate to loosen/tighten.
@Tasuki Okay thanks! Btw is it against the rules to necro post in articles and reviews? There are a few PS3 reviews I want to comment on, but they're extremely old.
