Its weird no one made that thread yet. Well I checked out the demo since I am really into strong-story-adventure games and totally loved The Last Of Us. Let me sum up my impressions after the demo:
- Ellie so does NOT look like Jodie! - Graphics are amazing for current gen, so much details, love it - Dense atmosphere and probably an interesting plot
But...
The positives end here for me. I hate the controls in two different ways: a) there aren't much controls and while I enjoy linear story heavy games (again like TLOU) I feel like this game should all have been just one long cutscene which I could watch (and would enjoy) but mostly you don't do much and if you do something its either without consequence or b) completely clunky and unreliable (the last section of running through the forest for example)
I mean, I get the effort and it truly is some amazing work of art, but all I do is reaction based quicktime events? There is no interaction besides the things you HAVE to do and use (and if there is no choice wether WHEN or WHAT I want to us, interact with, why even bother with making the player do some wierd input and not make it all a cutscene?!) and in the little parts you have control over your character (wow you can decide what direction you run to - until you run into invisible walls pushing you back) its clunky, unreliable and the over-the-shoulder camera fails miserably.
Aiden. Nice concept but honestly, it gets old after the first area (The Experiment) of the demo. Since then, it's a bore - at least to me. Pushing over objects, possessing people and creating forcefields. Wow. (sarcasm) Especialy boring because there are not really creative ways to use it. You push a cup of coffee some guy gets scared, you flip over a policecar and create a distraction, nice, but this is the one and only way this section can be played, it doesn't make a difference from what side you approach the scenery and hell you really can't do anything else than flip that car in the one and only way possible. Then again, why not just make it a cutscene and spare me 10 seconds of meaningless gameplay?!
I'm really really wondering how the reviews will fare, but from what I have seen its a shame I won't be able to enjoy the supposedly interesting story and great acting because everything else makes me stay away from this game as much as possible.
Please, if you're an absolute fan of this game, don't be pissed about my impressions, it's just how I see it and this should definitely not ruin your anticipation for this game.
I wonder if I can get the SCRIPT for that game somewhere sometime, because I'd rather READ it than play it.
Well, the demo for Heavy Raind made me stay away from that game for quite some time because it caused a really bad impression. However, after I got to play the actual game, I loved it and was really addicted to it. The demo for Beyond was a bit disapointing, but it left me with a better impression than that of Heavy Rain, so I'm hopeful that the actual game will be amazing. BTW, I don't mind the game being more cinematic with fewer gameplay elements, but I totally understand how you felt.
