Hello everyone! I've recently found my old PS3 after nearly 5 years and, while I still need to verify whether or not it still works, it's gotten me in the mood for some PS3 games. Thus, to everyone here who's had experience with a PS3, I'd love to ask what games you think would be essential for me to get for the system? I've been browsing my local CEX for ideas so far and I've found a few already that I've been willing to give a go:
Mirror's Edge
Watch_Dogs
Rayman Origins
Lego Indiana Jones
Lego Batman 1&2
....and many more. If you have any ideas on what would be a good one to grab, let me know, thanks for checking this thread out and have a wonderful day!
Also you can throw as many games to the wall as you like by the way: the only ones I've gotten for my PS3 so far have been Lego and FIFA games XD

@Fizza What genres do you like? Also, speaking as someone in the UK, it might be a good idea to make an American PS store account. (They have some games that aren't available to a European account and you can have multiple different region accounts on one console so it doesn't really matter.)
Currently playing: Metal Gear Solid
Back burner: Hollow Knight, Undertale
@TeaCatherine I'm gonna be going physical for me with this PS3 since....well let's just say I had a very bad experience trying to set up a digital store account the first time round.
As for the genres I like then, I'll take any RPG's, platformers, shooters and action games in regards to the PS3 specifically since I feel like it's got a wider variety of them (especially the latter two) than what I would get on a Switch/Wii

@Fizza I mean I'd go with physical for PS3 games but if you have a digital account you can use it for getting PS2 games, it is natively backwards compatible with PS1 games though, just some things to bear in mind.
You have any interest in the Metal Gear Solid series? You can get most of those.
Currently playing: Metal Gear Solid
Back burner: Hollow Knight, Undertale
@TeaCatherine OH I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT METAL GEAR. Are the first three available on PS3? I'd love to finally try the series if so!

@Fizza One thing is for sure: You have hot a huge treasure box in front of you. Man, what I would give to experience some of those for the first time again.
@Fizza Ah, crud, I just remembered the first one isn't in the HD collection, you could get it digitally very cheaply or the PS1 version is 30 euros physically from CEX, all the rest you can get physically for PS3.
@TeaCatherine Just looking online there and I've found something called the 'Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection' which seems to contain the first three plus their HD re-releases. It's dear (€65 currently) but I wouldn't mind forking that price over for 6 games total. Would that be a good alternative perhaps?

@Fizza I'm also looking at it on the Irish version (gotta do your research when giving advice.) We are still talking about CEX, right? 'Cause it says it's out of stock.
Edit: Also, it says nothing about containing the not HD versions, it says it has Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS1, MGS2HD, MGS3HD and MGS4.
I don't mind looking elsewhere for it but uhhh.....yeah, probably should've noticed that before submitting it XD

@Fizza Also, apparently that Legacy collection only had MGS1 as a download code so second hand you're better off getting the HD collection instead. (The HD collection has MGS2:HD, MGS3:HD,MGS:PW and 3 actually has the original Metal Gear games as well.)
Currently playing: Metal Gear Solid
Back burner: Hollow Knight, Undertale
@TeaCatherine You know, I had genuinely forgotten Metal Gear started out on the NES: I just assumed it was referring to the PS1 versions of MGS1 and 2 XD

@Fizza Going physical as much as possible is a good idea for the PS3. Obviously they changed their minds after a lot of backlash, but there's always the possibility they could close the PS3 store someday. Some physical copies could be ridiculously high, so going digital still could make occasional sense, but I am going physical only if I buy any more PS3 games (and some aren't available digitally anymore).
One of the lists in the middle covered most of the biggest games, and you're obviously talking about the Metal Gear Solid series, so one of the only ones that comes to mind that is left would be Heavenly Sword. That was one of my favorite games from the PS3 back in the day, and I know somebody here is playing it now and said it still holds up well enough. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions as well, but physical copies of that will be more expensive than the average game and you'll probably have to go to eBay for that one.

The remaster of God of War 1&2 are great fun and then you’ve got GoW 3 that was made for the console too.
Uncharted 2 and 3 are great (I never played the first) Sony exclusives, as is The Last of Us. Killzone 2&3 are good PS only shooters.
Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock Collection and Infinite, Mass Effect 2&3 are cross console classics from that generation too if you’ve never played them.
@TeaCatherine Basically all sorts of things went wrong when me and my dad were trying to set one up originally and it just completely put me off wanting to go through the process ever again.
@KilloWertz Can't say I've heard of Heavenly Sword myself but I'll definitely look into it if you have such high praise for it!

@Fizza Understandable since it didn't end up being a huge hit. I'm pretty sure it didn't meet Sony's sales expectations since it never got a sequel, which was a shame as it would have been interesting to see it become a series. They could have easily gotten a few games out before Ninja Theory was bought by Microsoft.
If you like hack and slash games like Devil May Cry, you should be ok with it. It's a fairly short game as well, clocking in at around 6 hours according to reviews. It's been so long since I played it I wouldn't have remembered that otherwise.
