I've been building up my collection of racing games recently, and until today a big gap in my racing experience was Gran Turismo (PS1).
I started playing it tonight on my PS3 and instantly loved it. Played for an hour or so, saved a couple of replays.
But when it came to time to turn off, it wouldn't let me save my progress because I'd filled my virtual memory card (presumably with the 2 replays I'd saved). It advised me to do some memory card management but I couldn't work out how to do it, and so I've left my PS3 running in-game overnight in the hope that I'll find out how to do it.
This is the first time I've put a PS1 disc in my PS3 and I've not got a clue, so if someone can advise that would be great.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@gcunit can you press the ps home button on the controller and go to memory card utility and select a memory card
Just had a quick Google and I'm not sure if you can create a memory card while your in game so the advice I've seen is to make a bunch of virtual memory cards before playing so you can swap between them using the memory card utility on the ps home button overlay (I think it's at the top of the game sections)
Worth trying to make a memory card while the games still open tho
@ralphdibny Thanks for your response. It seems by default there's one PS1 memory card available if you don't set any up yourself first, but unfortunately I'd already assigned that default card to the replay data (and possibly allocating the whole card to replays) so even after deleting the replays (which I was trying to avoid 😢) it still said there was no free space on the card for me to save my game progress ðŸ˜, so it seemed my only option was to quit the game, lose my progress, and set up some new virtual memory cards.
Lesson learnt now I guess at least. I've now made one card just for GT1 save data, and a separate card just for GT1 replays. It's good that you can seemingly setup as many virtual memory cards as you want, but just annoying you can't do it from within a PS1 game.

@gcunit no problem, annoying that you couldn't create a memory card while the game is still running, I don't see why someone can't do that but can still swap cards. Yeah may be worth making like ten or something, supposedly they don't take up much space on the hard drive
I don't play many car racing games (though I got Forza horizon 4 with my Xbox and it's awesome) but a few I remember from PS1 days were ridge Racer, toca 2 and London racer which is so rubbish but also really funny how silly it is, it's the only one I go back and play sometimes
Also a shout out to destruction derby 2, I used to love that game
