Topic: ps3 error message and game controller connections

Hello. As a noobie to ps3's i need two questions answered if possible. The first is that i was given a second hand ps3 console. Unfortunately when it loads up it says "previous install was cancelled. System will install again. After install is complete system will automatically restart". However, when the install gets to about 44% it then comes up with a message referring to "Error 8002F!F9". Possible replacement (hard drive or wifi blutooth prob). The other question is that i have acquired a new ps3 Esperanza controller. It has two connectors. One is a usb and the other is a wide narrow 1.5" connector. For the controller to work on a ps3 can i just use the usb plug? The ps3 console is a Sony model CECH-2003B. Thank you for your help.
