So the other night I was talking to a friend of mine about the problems with my PS4 controllers and the fact that I want to get a few more for multiplayer games, problem is the freaking price. Well he suggested that I look for 3rd party controllers like he did with his 360. So I looked and looked and looked and found nothing. Here we are about a year and half into the PS4 lifespan and no one has come up with a third party controller?
I have heard that it's because of the TouchPad and I find it hard to believe. I mean laptops have had touch pads for years along with other things so that can't be it can it? Does Sony have some sort of strangle hold on third parties or something. Are any in development? I really think this is greed on these companies behalf charging the price of a newly release game for a controller..

Yeah, the controllers are really expensive, but you're right - there are zero third-party options. I doubt the touchpad is the problem, it's more likely a case of Sony simply blocking third-party controllers from being made. It's a shame, but you're probably going to have to bite the bullet on an official one...
I picked up a second hand one for £25 as well as a new redone for £40, that's pretty much the price of a ds3, I think the rrp is something ridiculous like £65
Yeah I have been keeping an eye on sales but I haven't noticed any. As for used I have found them used for $55. For that price I might as well by a new one.

Right now not much of a sale:
NewEgg Item#: N82E16879261431 Black $39.99 + $4.99 Shipping
Rakuten (Was Buy.com) Sku: 268092795 Blue $49.99 + Free Shipping

Well I stopped in a Gamestop last night and noticed that there are Rock Candy Xbox One controllers coming out so maybe hopefully PS4 ones will be coming out soon?
Was Sony this uptight with third party controllers for the PS3?

I tend to get little bits like this from Very.co.uk and pay off over 3 months. I hardly notice £15 going out my account on a monthly basis this way. Plus it keeps my credit rating topped up
Of course, I'm based in the UK.
As far as third party controllers go, getting the touch pad/light bar/Bluetooth 2.1 integrated and still being able to make a little money off it? Hmm I'm not so sure. They are packing alot of tech into both xb1 and ps4 controllers so I think their cost is fairly justified. I don't reckon the margins exist for third party units. Maybe in due course.
