How good is this game? I got it last week and have been hammering it over the bank holiday. The answer is it's very good.
I was put off for years by the character designs although the series has always intrigued me. Having played the game I've really warmed to the characters and the style now looks great.
The game has great combat and while I see the obvious Zelda comparisons in the moment to moment gameplay I actually feel more like I'm playing an original Tomb Raider game. The dungeons are puzzle after puzzle and the game isn't concerned about you getting bored and walking off - minimal way point markers and hints - it lets you figure things out for yourself, old school.
I will play the second next (also on sale!) and I'm now looking forward to the third.
Gotta say I love these remasters, playing Darksiders and Kingdom Hearts, two franchises I've always liked the look of but never got into back to back is awesome.
I never played any of the Darksides either but have been curious about them. I picked both of them up a fee monthe ago in a Humble Bundle and been playing through the first one as well.
We'll I have to say it doesn't do anything new or unique, but the execution is done very well. I even like the cheesy voice acting (which I laugh everytime War speaks because the voice actor also does Illidian in WoW and the two sound alike).
Other then that I am really enjoying it.

Love the franchise so much that I own both the original and the sequel 3 times. I prefer War to Death but I think the second one is overall the better game.
I love the artstyle and I don't mind that it 'borrows' so heavily from other games. I actually think more developers should do it. Take what works, tweak it and try to make something better (why is no one copying the nemesis system?!). That's how you grow.
It's unfortunate but it seems like hack n' slash games are slowly dying out, so for anyone that needs that itch scratched, these are fantastic pick ups.

@kyleforrester87 Haven't played it on PS4 yet. Saving it for when D3 has a confirmed release date, so I can't really comment on the framerate on that version. However, I believe the original PS3 version was also 30fps and I didn't have an issue with it then. The game itself is great and has a highly addictive loot system.
Maybe not dying, but they have changed. GoW is changing its very essence (no problem with that), DMC is in purgatory, who knows what's going on with Bayonetta. Looks to me like those 'arcady' single player hack n' slash games are just not there anymore.
Sometimes a guy just wants to feel like he's vastly overpowered and watch the bodies pile up.

@Fight_Teza_Fight Yeah maybe you're right, didn't think about DMC at least. But still Platinum are always doing their thing, and then there is always Diablo 3 too
@Fight_Teza_Fight If your looking for games like Bayonetta if you havent tried it already I suggest Transformers Devestation. It's done by Platinum as well and the combat style is similar to Bayonetta.

@Tasuki Thanks, but I've already played Transformers Devastation. Certainly one of the better PS+ offerings. Great game. Really didn't expect it to be that good.
Until Darksiders 3 I'll just have to content with the remasters I guess (GoW3, Darksiders & KH).
Just hope that those types of games don't go the way of splitscreen racers...but now I'm going off topic so I'll stop .

When it was first released on the PS3, my mate was stuck on one of the Boss battles and for some reason just couldn't get his head around the mechanics of the fight. I popped round his place and he told how good this game was but that he was stuck. He asked if I'd have a look as he was so frustrated. I've no idea why but it clicked with me straight away and I took the Boss out first time.
I liked the look of it and bought it myself! Absolutely loved the first one but must get around to playing the sequel as I have both Remasters. Totally agree with @kyleforrester 87 and @Fight_Teza_Fight about the influences.
@Bigkopman Which one was it out of interest? I've only beat the second one although I'm right near the third, just got the horse (awesome!). The first was kinda tough, I wasn't very well kitted out and I couldn't go back to buy any supplies.
@Bigkopman Hmm might have been the second one if it included those blue crystals. The mechanic on that was kinda odd and took me a little while to work out.
Finished off number 1, really enjoyed it but the puzzles got a bit boring toward the end once you unlocked the "portal gun" and magic mask.
I'm playing number 2 now - it's a lot different, but I'm digging it. Quite liking the new loot system. Sucks it's at 30fps though. And man am I getting used to upressed Pro games - 1080p looks pretty bad. The combat feels a lot less brutal so far too.I like the sound design.

The Black Throne Room is just awful. I felt the whole level was a cheap way to try to make the game feel longer than it really is. The rest of the game is good I just REALLY hated that part of the game.
