What is up everyone?

Seeing that there is a lot of chatter on the D2 articles here on Pushsquare and having the beta just about to kick off, I thought it would be nice to have a place to both discuss and team up with the guardian community out there, so come by and introduce yourself, talk about your hopes for D2 and discuss what we know so far.

A little bit about me, I've played the original since the first look beta, with over 1000 hours of grinding, like most I spent too much time in the beginning unable to play much of the endgame due to no matchmaking, thankfully I then found a small community here on Pushsquare, you guys know who you are, got started on LFG sites and since found a pretty good and active UK based clan to play with, so helping other players to enjoy endgame content through the new "Guided Games" feature is be something I am looking forward to doing, even if the rewards are terrible.

How about you guys? What are you looking forward to the most in D2?

Please do keep it civil and on topic, there is another thread to discuss/team up for D1 already.

It's looking like more of the same isn't it? Great for those who like it, but I don't think it's going to win many new fans!

More of the same is fine!

Everyone seems to be upset about hunters.... but I really liked the hunter abilities.... if you change your selections, you have a dodge that resets your melee ability, and any melee kills resets your dodge... that is some good synergy . And if you kill with your melee ability you get health regen. In practice I found this more useful than the warlock health regen hotspot.

Also cloaks are teh cool.

Is this game hard or do I just need to get gud? I never played the first one but I'm finding myself dying more than I would like to admit. That said I'm enjoying it and leaning towards getting the full game.

I kinda want to pick up the first but with the second right around the corner, I feel like I will just wait.

@Splat They do a really good job of getting you invested in the moment and setting mood/tension - more than other shooters by far I find. I don't know if it is harder per se, but certainly more chaotic. The raids are apparently the best part and ARE hard, need teamwork (I haven't done them because I don't have 6 people to do them with in late night Canadian time)

Fair warning, the main gameplay loop is to get more loot so you can take on harder challenges so you can get better loot so you can take on harder challenges so you can get better loot so you can take on harder challenges so you can get better loot so you can take on harder challenges so you can get better loot so you can [..etc]. It is the same loop as something like WoW, but the combat is more interesting than staring at a giant boss' toe.

@Mega-Gazz You're from Canada? I from Malaysia and I used to play the first Destiny a lot with a PSN friend who lives in Canada. He was nice enough to give me an early access code for the Beta too.

Anyways, I liked some of the Guardians skills and perks as well as some of the weapons but thats about it really. The story mission was okay but I found the Nessus Strike to be kinda boring. Both the level design and final boss kinda reminded me of Vault of Glass raid except without the tough and interesting mechanics.

I was hoping to be wowed but like kyleforrester87 mentioned its more or less kinda the same.

That's fine I did that very thing for countless hours in Diablo 3.

@Splat the strike is a little bit tough, first time I died only twice and second time loads. But if you're all reviving each other it's not bad. Some of the harder challenges on D1 were really hard, but it kept people invested. It's harder than holding down buttons in Diablo though lol

I actually really like the new strike, it's cool. Will play it again later if you or anyone else wants to go.

Overall, this beta has me more excited for the main game!

@kyleforrester87 @WanderingBullet I got into the last bit of the strike, halfway through the boss. Didn't requeue yet. It seemed okay, pretty standard. I think orbs will be even more important though than last time if the cd is like that.

@Splat yea, like that but more teamwork. You can't solo grind as easily, but there is matchmaking. In terms of $/hr of fun, it is definitely worth it.

I'm still trying to figure out which class is for me. I'm still unsure what some of the ability's do? I mean some of them are straight forward but others I'm not sure what they are doing?

Also why is a shotgun considered a heavy weapon? It's not a huge deal but I'm a big shotgun user in games like this. I guess that's not an option with such limited ammo.

@Splat they said that ammo will be more plentiful in the release. I think also instead of primary/secondary/heavy they are trying to break the paradigm and go kinetic/elemental/power.

With the beta coming to close soon I have decided I'm all in. I will be killing and looting day one.

I kinda regret not giving the first one a chance.

Will your progress like level and gear cross over between the story and playing online? Let says I get to level 5 playing PVE and then jump into PVP am I still a level 5 or are they separate?

@Splat It is 100% online. There is no offline, including PVE. Even in pve, you will sometimes run accross other players (friendly only)... they did this for example in the beta story mission, sometimes when you are near Zavala fighting the waves you'll end up cooperating with other players.

Edit: Most PVP has level/light advantages removed, meaning they normalize everything so everyone is on an even footing... though perks from good gear still are an advantage. For some pvp events levels/light does matter, but they are clearly marked.

I didn't get to play too much because (I think that maybe my PS4 Pro is faulty) the game kept crashing on me, but I did get to play Homecoming, the Strike, and PvP with my brother and we had a blast. PvP feels a lot better than the first Destiny, but everything in PvE feels really weak. Hopefully they balance stuff out to make the game feel funner! It's gonna be hard to resist the temptation to buy it day one, bit if nothing else comes out in September I'll probably get it. With my group of friends I know I'll have fun with it.

I've played with all three characters and I have to confess, it is a bit samey, but I think this is because there's not enough material to seen the real differences.
Movement and graphics are more polished.
I actually went back to D1 just for a bit more diversity and fun

Grenades, skills and supers take forever to recharge and build up. I think the current skill cooldowns is more suited for PVP. Not sure if its true but I heard is that a lot of people tend to only get their supers towards the end of PVP matches.

Quite a bit tweaking and balancing needs to be done I feel. That said, Bungie has never been that good when it comes to balancing their gears. For example, the Suros Regime exotic auto rifle use to be a really good weapon during D1's launch. Bungie then decided to nerf it and eventually all auto rifles as well to the point where no one was using them anymore.
