Hi all just wondered what makes a good theme for you. Personally I can't get rid of my midyear theme just for the music in the background

Not really, I usually change it to whatever main game I playing. I normally have the the sounds muted so don't hear the music. The Resi Evil 7 one was quite spooky though.

I'll change the theme to a PS4 game I'm playing if it's good. In general, though, I prefer a vivid sense of ambiance from my themes, which can only be properly evoked by a combination of music and imagery. Such as this theme, which has been my go-to since I first obtained it:

What bugs me about the themes is how many are locked as pre-order bonuses and whatnot, though. I'd LOVE to have the pre-order themes that came with Gravity Rush Remastered or the digital version of NieR: Automata, for example, but those will likely never be re-released. It especially burns as the other themes available for NieR suck.

As for custom themes, I don't really bother with them, as you can't customize them with music. They're just wallpapers.

Being the cheapskate that I am I just take advantage of the free game related ones available from the PS Store & usually swap them over when I get bored with them or fancy a change - currently got a Mai Shiranui (KOF XIV) one rocking my PS4 - and very lovely it is too I might add !

I had the Geralt and Ciri Witcher theme for a while complete with the awesome Skellige Isle music. Now I've just got a custom Cyberpunk 2077 background.

I really like the themes that change the icons. IIRC the Witcher 3 had a really cool one which did this.
