This was one of the games I was most looking forward to...until I read on another major website that they decided to take a subscription model.  It's 14.99/mo (it'll be a little cheaper if you buy several months at a time).  I knew it could happen, but I was really hoping it wouldn't.  I love the Elder Scrolls, but I've made it a personal choice not to pay monthly for one game (ps+ is different cause of how many games you get).

Here's the source that GI used:

What about you guys?  Would you pay monthly even for a game as potentially great as Elder Scrolls Online?

And subscription MMOs lose their money. They can't win. ESO has the potential, because of franchise's fanbase, to make a decent profit... but we'll see.

After seeing Star Trek Online flourish after going F2P I find it hard to get excited for another big franchise MMO thats decided to go the subscription route. I was looking forward to this but even with it being an Elder Scrolls game I find it VERY hard to justify paying £14.99 a month just to play.

Well as being an avid World of Warcraft player for 4 years now it really doesn't bother me.  I just look at it as the cost of entertainment.  Some people spend alot more then $15 dollars a month for entertainment.  Heck just going to the movies costs me about 40 dollars and thats only for 2 hours at the most of entertainment.  Heck even if you buy a new game for say the PS3 once a month you are still spending more than $15.

Well if the game itself is FREE and its really made of awesome quality, I'd accept the monthly fee. But paying 60,- for the game AND the monthly fee, sorry that's not cutting it, that's too 2002 for me.
I think the best approach is what Guildwars 2 did. Pay for the game, play for free, pay for expansions if you like the game enough to get them. Probably make a store with fashion only items (no stats attached to them) to buy for real money. Done.
