I don’t play many turn-based rpgs, so I need your help. I just played through The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I, II, and III, and I loved ‘em. Now I’m looking for other games that have that same turn-based approach to fighting, with the same mechanics and feel. In your opinion, what games play just like Trails of Cold Steel and are approachable and enjoyable for an rpg noob like me?
Persona 5 (or Persona 5 Royal) - Persona 5 takes the school bits of Trails and fleshes them out a lot more, and the battle system is a bit more refined. So if you found yourself liking the bits in Trails where you get days off school and you can go chat to your mates, there's an entire gameplay system in Persona based around that. Levelling up friendships actually helps you in battle. It's set in modern Tokyo rather than a fantasy world, with the characters gaining the ability to travel into the psyche of criminals and perform elaborate heists to change their hearts - like an incredibly Japanese, incredibly anime Inception. Also it's got radical music.
@jgrangervikings1 Dragon Quest 11: echoes of the elusive age it’s also a good turn-based RPG. There’s also Demon Gaze 2 but that is first person. The are two Digimon story cybersluth games. There are also a large number of Atelier games but those have a strong emphasis on item synthesis.
