Ok this might sound like a dumb question but right now I am playing Lego Marvel with my son and I am noticing that only he is getting achievements. We both beat the first level and both were signed in on our accounts. He was signed in as player one I was player two. Am I missing something else?

I honestly don't know. This is something that they were supposed to fix on PS4 - so you can log into two accounts at once - but I genuinely don't know the answer. I'm going to look into this, as I'm sure you're not the only one wondering.
Thanks for the response guys. I didnt know that was a problem with the PS3 (since I didn't own a PS3). I know that on the 360 if you both sign into a profile you each will get achievements. Seems kinda silly that only one player can get achievements while both are playing. The funny thing is though I got the achievement for Wolverine while I was playing Wolverine in Lego Marvel yet my sons profile got the credit not me.
I have to say this is kinda of disappointing if on multiplayer games one the first player gets the achievements.

It's a tiny bit complicated. Only player 1 will get trophy notifications. Depending on the game though, you might still be able to get them on the second player if you load the game up as player one on your account. It seems like it depends on how the game checks for trophy triggers, but I know when my brother and I played Borderlands and Earth Defense Force (EDF EDF!), I was able to load the game up solo and all of the trophies I SHOULD have unlocked started to pop up with the exception of one or two.
I can also confirm this was indeed 'corrected' on PS4 in a way. It still seems to vary by game, but in Playroom, player 2 was getting trophy notifications (but not in Knack... because everyone knows player 2 doesn't matter)
tl;dr: try loading the game up solo on your account and see if the trophies you should have earned start to pop up.
To save our Mother Earth from any alien attack
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back
We'll unleash all our forces we won't cut them any slack
The EDF deploys!!
Well I tried starting a solo game like @nathanuc1988 suggested and no didn't get one achievement. I have to say on achievement/trophy part Microsoft outdoes PS in that regard. Looks like I wont be playing too many mulitplayer games on the PS4 unless they fix this issue.

Anyway, TC, it's a Sony, sometimes, they have very strange approach to some simple things. Maybe you should complaign about that to Yoshida on twitter, or something like that.
Anyways, to the OP, when you tried getting Trophies, did you and your son BOTH have signed in with a proper PSN activated account or just some local account any one of you?

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
@Scollurio: Well I created a PSN account for myself and then a created a sub account for him. As far as I know its a proper activated account. I mean I got info in my email about the account and stuff like that. Also I got other achievements for games like Resogun and Contrast when I played them on my own. This is the first multiplayer game we have played together so I never ran into this problem before. Also I didn't own a PS3 this is my first Sony system since the PS2 so I am not sure if I missed something or what.
Don't get me wrong I am not going to let this little hiccup stop me from enjoying the game, and I am not a huge achievement hunter but its nice when I do get one just for the sake of getting one. My main thing is I was wondering if all multiplayer games on the PS4 are like this.
@get2sammyb: No need to apologize you didn't say that stuff. Thanks for taking care of it when you did. It really just amazes me how mean some people can be to someone they don't know.
Anyway I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me concerning this problem. If I find anything out I will post it here but so far nothing I tried short of playing the game again have I found to give me those achievements.

@Tasuki Hmmm that's strange, Ill have a Lego Marvel Session on Saturday with a friend of mine, going to investigate this as well. It's good you're not letting your joy for the game be hindered by this, but of course you're right, it should be a basic functionality. Hopefully there is a solution or it is just a little hiccup early in the life of the PS4 and no problem at all in future titles.
@get2sammyb thanks for removing that guy. Really, no idea what's wrong with people, even if I strongly disagree with someone, in the harshest most brutal sense, I still am able to articulate my disagreement in a proper manner, those guys... I just don't get it. At all. Good riddance and thanks, you do a far better job moderating than I've seen on any other forums (NLife is overly strict moderated pissing people off left and right for example) and I guess everyone of us that's surfing the web has seen/read worse already than that post, so it didn't spoil anyone's pure soul until you got rid of it!

@Scollurio: That is what I am hoping for that maybe I am overlooking something. If I get a chance later on today I might google the problem and see if there is a solution out there somewhere.

and they are not sure if its the games themselves or the console that is the cause of this problem. So it looks like that for now the only solution is playing the game again.
Thanks again guys for all your help, I am hoping that maybe Sony will fix this issue in the future as I plan to buy alot of Co-op games on the PS4, but still this is not a real deal breaker for me games wise just a bit disappointing.

LEGO games only give trophies to Player 1. If you look at the list most of the Trophies say Single Player. Only the early LEGO games on X360 supported 2 player Achievements
@ZeD: Ah is that the case? Well its been years since I played a Lego game the last one I played was Lego Harry Potter.
I remember my friends missing out on a Platinum for a Lego Harry game as he played Co-op & the 2nd player was picking collectables up too. I do not understand how it was possible in the 1st Lego Star Wars games but not newer ones :/
@ZeD: Well I know that in the past some both were able to get at the same time like the ones for completing the levels while there were some that had to be unlocked by doing certain things.
Like for example in Lego Marvel there is this one trophy you get if you are Wolverine and do something. The thing I found weird is that I was the one playing Wolverine yet my son got the trophy for it while I didn't.
As I said its not a big deal just more of a curiosity that's all.
