The game feels like a journey first and foremost, like the bloated reading and slow moving pace of lord of the rings books to emphasise the slog of walking, the lack of communication and gaming tropes and the various alien scenarios within the sand world genuinely felt like a journey through an alien place exactly what the developers wanted. Its not a great 'game' the required platforming skill and difficulty is virtually non existent but the 'experience' is something else entirely.

Yeah, this was my experience too. I played it when it dropped on PS3 and I really enjoyed the switch from many of the gaming tropes. It was an experience. But I do know how hype can tarnish any experience. I didn't play The Last of Us until the PS4 release and I truly enjoyed the game, I wasn't "Wowed" by the game. But there are many games out now that can compete with The Last of Us (probably copying many game aspects).

Timing can be everything...

@iDangerMouse_: Yes it is - I bought it as soon as the game became available. I think a load more games are going for a similar appeal as @starhops wrote, Such as Rapture. The wonderment of what's going on the environment are different and alien. Will you like it? Who knows you may not even know yourself.

One thing I haven't noted is these games (rapture, journey and the first hour of Alien isolation) stay with you for a long time. I look back on the push up the mountain, the radios 1 1 4 7 2 and the cables protruding from the nostramo and they hit something in your brain. Maybe its immersion, but the 2 hours I spent with Journey distributed more memorable sequences when I look back than 20plus hours with other games from my recent past.

I really enjoyed the game and was happy to get it as a cross buy so no need to buy it again for PS4. I liked the way the game played and the fact you played with someone without saying anything
