How to NOT be a useless, static idiot in killzone multiplayer Hello, me again. Rambling on about the multiplayer component in Killzone Shadowfall, which - in my book - is really a stellar experience. If played right. Well, what do I mean? It's a very tactical shooter focused on teamplay, with all the tools to make it an awesome experience, unfortunately most people I met online play it like Call of Duty (no offense) meaning that most of them are just a 1-man-missile thats flying from spawn into the next group of people, trying to take as many with them as possible while they are shot to pieces. In some recent games though I had the pleasure to be with an assumably mature crowd. The gaming experience rose tenfold, it was that good. So the following paragraph will give you some insight in how to be a good Killzone player, score lots of points and actually play as a team-oriented player, having more fun yourself in return. If you're interested in my thoughts, please read on. Killzone has 3 distinct classes available with a multitude of special abilities, weapons and attachements to further customize your experience and prepare you for a given task at hand. It's about utilizing those abilities and tools to the maximum to make an generic sci-fi shooter into a highly tactical game of very violent rock-paper-scissor. Let me get started with the basic, most important thing in multiplayer: SPAWN BEACONS Usually if you're in a team where no one ever places spawn beacons (support class ability) it's the losing team. Spawn beacons are the most important, tactical and strategic asset you have in the whole game but since a spawn beacon doesn't blow someone's face off or comes with all bells and whistles, people tend to ignore it. Please don't be one of them. It's absolutely important to move your troops quickly around the battlefield, keep the pressure on a capture point and have your mates spawn next to you for backup, support and for having enough revives around when you need them. This ability alone can make or brake a game. If an area is heavily fought in, take your support class, sneak around the area and place a spawn beacon in a hidden place, so your teammates, without even talking to them or having an overall plan, will spawn there, you'll generate plenty of points, and by moving to the target objective the shortest way possible (thats how most people play anyways) you've actively focused and directed the combat just by the location you chose to place the beacon in. Do not overlook the importance of this. Capturing zones and areas without one or two properly placed spawn beacons is almost impossible if you have a somewhat capable opponent. Take your time to place the beacon at the start of each round. The more you level up that ability, the longer the beacon will hold and generate points for you, while you switch to another class and play another role. This brings me to the next, really important thing. Move. Since players can block each other in Killzone multiplayer it is important that when you spawn on a beacon or crawl through a tight space, look out of a gap in the wall etc... MOVE. Just don't be that immobile idiot that blocks everyone's path in case of an attack, when people want to back up around the last corner, hide behind a door etc... and can't because you're blocking their way. It's frustrating getting shot by someone clearly under your skill-level just because some dimwit behind you wants to push you out of the door you're trying to back up through. So please, mind your teammates, your overall location and move. If you are lucky enough to play with people just taking to heart the 2 beforementioned tips (assuming you're one of them anyways) your gaming experience will improve tremendously. To improve your own gameplay and skill further you need to think a bit more tactical than in most shooters, you need to be able to look at a given situation, mission or specific map and know what to do best. Have some pre-made loadout for each class with a distinctive name so you can switch to them as the situation demands. Name them something like "runner" or "spawner" or "close-combat turret" - something you can relate to. I won't go into detail now on how to use each specific ability and weapon effectively as it is part of the game and the fun to discover it yourself. No one needs to be a perfect player, it's all about fun afterall, but with those few tips, it will improve everyone's gameplay experience. Think about it. Its really seldom that a multiplayer shooter offers that much of a tactical twist, so make use of it and enjoy it. Never underestimate the tools at hand and think of other tactics than run towards enemy shooting.
