Hey guys. I just wanted to talk a little about the game and the ending.
I personally liked the game a lot. I enjoyed the protagonist a lot more than past iterations. I think there were some really fun parts (the shadow, the patriot (minus the train parts)...and I also thought there were some terrible parts. I don't mind the occasional lack of action, but some scenes made me scratch my head. The free fall section (haven't played the patched version yet), the "protect massar in the container with the random rockets while you float through space"...okay, all the float through space parts. But as a whole I liked it better than most shooters.
I obviously thought Sinclair was going to turn on you at some point and that he might be the final section, but I had no clue that they would just kill kellen off. Did you see it coming? It's pretty bold for them to kill off the protagonist. Were you disappointed in the lack of a final boss fight? Did you like the last scene? Did you think the game was over because of the fake credits?
I personally knew there was a chapter called the savior, so I knew something was up.
I thought the game's story was not as good as Killzone 2 and 3's. The reason for this is that Lucas is not a charismatic protagonist. He isn't as interesting as Sev. Also, Killzone 2 and 3 benefit from having a 'dark' story and setting. Killzone 2 is mainly set at night. That gives it much more of a moody atmosphere which helps with the player's immersion.
It's similar to the comparison between Resident Evil (RE for short) 4 and 5. RE 4's story is set in the night, but RE 5 is set in the African daytime. Both couldn't be more opposite to one another in conveying a vibe to the gamer.
Lastly, Killzone: Shadow Fall is more open world. Now, this has it's benefits, but I prefer Killzone being a corridor shooter. Killzone 2 was the best FPS on PS3. It was a corridor shooter. Yet, it was so awesome. Making it an open world shooter doesn't feel right. It would be like making COD open world. It just wouldn't be right.
See, I tried playing kill zone 2 to prepare myself for shadowfall...and I HATED it. I dunno why, but I could not get into it at all. I had that feeling when I played the demo years ago, but I got it for five bucks so I took a chance. I only beat like 2 or 3 levels and then made myself stop. It felt like a chore.

Okay, well for starters, I thought sev and Rico's voice acting was much worse than Kellens.
Second, it's hard to explain, but I feel the controls are "just right". It felt nothing but awkward in kill zone 2. For starters, I'm not sure if you could turn it off, but holding L2 (I think that was the button) to crouch is terrible. First...l2 was a lousy choice, but holding it down felt really clumsy.
Third, I guess I like the openness of shadow fall - and that's where we differ on a lot of it. I like that in "the shadow", you can choose which objectives to do first after you meet up with your crew. It reminded me a little of the missions in goldeneye.
Fourth, I'm not a big online shooter, but I felt killzone shadow fall did a good job of working me into it. Not sure if 2 has a recruit warzone. Can't recall if I tried the online there. But this was one of the best multiplayer experiences since mag.
Fifth, I like the owl and the things you can do to make it work.
I'm totally cool that you think 2 is better, but in my opinion shadow fall blows it out of the water.
I more so set up this thread to see if anyone else was surprised that kellen died.

The controls can be adjusted. Go to the control settings of Killzone 2 and you can set the crouch and zoom to be constant. Basically, you don't have to hold a button down to do the action. I'm pretty certain you can make a custom controller layout in the control settings. You may have to double check that as I don't have the game on me.
Well, the problem with having open world gameplay is that the "set piece battles" lack "impact". You go around completing missions, but there's very little "edge of your seat" stuff happening.
Killzone 2 is all dark and atmospheric. It's an old game too so it's not fair to compare it to Shadow Fall from a gameplay perspective.
Yes. Sev and Rico's voice acting isn't great but the story packs more punch. Very few people (if anyone) felt emotionally connected to Lucas Kellen.
Lastly, Killzone 2 has a great cliff hanger ending. Killzone 3 starts off right at the end of Killzone 2. That's what makes those two games great. They're connected with one another. Don't get me started on the Mawler boss fight in Killzone 3. One of the most stunning sights I've ever come across in gaming. The sheer size of the Mawler is something to behold. You got to play both games to the end. Just once. So that you can say you played them. Trust me. They're awesome.
I really enjoyed this game, probably my second favorite in the series behind 2 and just ahead of Mercenary. I missed Sev and Rico as the leads but I enjoyed the story in this one and thought Kellen was a cool lead, don't like how they just kind of offed him but it's something most mainstream games, movies and tv shows don't do a lot of so I guess points for that.
For the gameplay itself, I actually don't mind either style. I enjoyed the more open ended levels in this one as I feel like on multiple playthroughs it gives you plenty of different ways to attack the levels. However, the straight corridor shooting of 2 and especially 3 were nice because I think it led to better pacing. In fact, I'd say 3 was the most well-paced FPS I've ever played.
Everyone seems to love KZ2 and holds it as the pinnacle of the series, but I loved 3 best. I never played a Killzone game until I downloaded the demo of Killzone 3 when it came out, and I was hooked. I got the Trilogy eventually and played 1-3 and each game was better than the last.
I had high hopes for Shadow Fall but it fell short in almost every aspect. I actually really liked Sev and Rico. Sure, they were kind of generic and stupid, but they had personality. An unfathomable degree more personality than Kellan ever had, anyway. I also thought the voice acting in Shadow Fall was pretty sub-par for most everyone except Echo and Doctor Whats-her-face but that may have been due to the sub-par dialogue. In fact, I'd say most of the problem with Shadow Fall was the story. I didn't feel for any of the main characters in the game. The only reason I felt for the Helghans was because of the lore established in previous games.
I don't just want a rehash of Killzone 2 and 3, but I love the Killzone series because it's not like any other shooter...or at least it wasn't until now. As soon as the game began I noticed the similarities to CoD. I actually really liked the control scheme established in the Killzone series and I hated to see it go because it fit perfectly with the play style, but it's very telling that they had to implement a new control scheme to suit the new play style. Now you're a faceless one-man army just like any other generic shooter, complete with pointlessly exposition-heavy cutscenes in the middle of missions. They took away what made Killzone "Killzone". Working together with your comrades, in the heat of a battle, completing objectives not because you have a list of things to do, but because you're in the middle of a battle and you have to do shit to get out alive.
I never felt like I was in the middle of a battle in Shadow Fall, and that's not just because you're supposed to be a stealth operative. Missions felt like a chore, and the more open world felt more like an excuse to show of visuals than a functioning part of the game. I hated the first half of the game because they might as well have given you a mission select screen with some text explaining why you have to kill the badguy. "Here's a mission, go blow things up. Oh, good, you did it. Here's another one. Shoot things. Yay?"
I have a lot of hate for the single-player campaign but I actually really like the multiplayer aspect. There's a lot of things I miss about Killzone 3 because it will always be near to my heart, but multiplayer is one thing they did very well in Shadow Fall.
@RiseFromAshes How did I confirm it? I can't stand Call of Duty. I love the Killzone series precisely because it's not Call of Duty but Shadow Fall is a leap in the wrong direction.

Just finished the campaign (Haven't played more then 2 or 3 games of multiplayer yet). Here are my thoughts. Keep in mind this is my first killzone even though I had a ps3. The game had pacing issues in the first half. It reminded me of uncharted 3 (one of my favourite games ever despite a sloe first half) You went from being a child t being captured and shot at to using stealth to exploring to shooting to action... yeah. But I really liked this game. A lot. Chapter 3 and to a lesser extent 6 was awful. But other then that The game was good. I really liked the story. The graphics were stunning. The shooting felt heavy and good. The stealth wasn't great but the owl really helped add depth without making things more complex. (Extra credits ftw (Look them up on youtube) Sound and other small things like that were good too. And on to the difficulty. This game was hard on normal. Yet most of the time thanks to plenty of adrenaline I didn't die or get sent back. I could just keep going. Then In the later chapters I felt like I hit a wall. Dear god those security bots in chapter 8 and the final room in chapter 9. Chapter 9 was also way too long. They should've made it into too chapters at a bit you probably could guess if you played it. Spoilers from here The ending... I genuinely sat there with my mouth open. They killed Lucas off. And was it me or did they imply that sinclair used the weapon. When he said thanks to me they'll know the threat now. Paraphrasing. Then you kill him... Give me a sequel. Now. I was genuinely interested in the story. I read/listend to all the secrets I found. As for multiplayer as I've said I haven't really played it.
