Normally I either enjoy the music in a game or do not notice it as it just sits there in the background complimenting the game really well. I rarely put other music on when I game as I think the music adds to the experience. An external soundtrack take away from the gaming experience. However today i disovered the first game where the music irriitated me so much I had to turn it off that game was Tropico 5. I am enjoying the game but hate the music.

@dryrain: I prefer game music to pop music - so much so I visited Japan to listen to Yuzo Koshiro live 15 years ago. Absolutely brilliant but I was easily the tallest man there, you've got to hand it to the crowd they were brilliant, especially for the likes of Alien Power and Attack the Barbarian. I really need to do this type of thing again - maybe the final fantasy orchestra thingy they run in London.

But generally I agree with you - after reading the best music of 2015 article, nothing in particular stood out. The last game to grab me music wise was the original Hotline Miami, alot of todays AAA games have music to suit the mood and ongoing action so the arcade type beats have taken a backseat.

@dryrain: Definitely. It's far better than the sequel, and it's such an aesthetically well-done game - the music is great, the difficulty is harsh but fair, and the retro style is excellent.

@dryrain: Yes it is - the first time I played it, I ran a couple of levels died an absolute ton and switched it off. A couple of weeks later my eldest son (now 15) put it on. I sat back and watched him make mistakes and he fell into the same traps I did and was getting annoyed. So we took turns. Eventually you get good at certain things - like throwing pool cues or shooting at a certain angle within a level, there's a tactically nuance to the level design and beating them not to mention the trippy story, pumping tunes and lag free controls. Go buy it - a must play game.
