The only thing that can think of without making it wierd is quick weapon change.

I honestly can't think of a single thing that makes sense at all and makes it worth adding to the controller. I seriously can't think of anything that the buttons and analog sticks can't do. And I'm afraid whatever they think of will just feel tacked on for the sake of the new controller.

I'm sure they'll think of something that isn't too tacked on.

I felt the same about the Sixaxis until I played Super Rub-a-Dub!

I think the infamous one works well. They said putting both thumbs on the touchpad lets you recharge your powers (similar to cole absorbing electricity). It lets them use that button for something else.

I hope it isn't just used for quick time events and shit that should be on buttons.

How about a game where your character has a mask that constantly gets dirty and needs to be wiped clean. This sounds awful.
How about a game where it's just used in menus or to activate and manipulate a map? You can use multi-touch on it to zoom in or rotate a map in a menu or something. This sounds okay.
How about using it like a laptop touchpad and having an arrow on screen? This sounds like it could be good or bad depending on usage and the type of game.

Maybe since start/select have been combined to the "options" button, the touchpad will be used like a select button for games that use both (Assassin's Creed for example)
