Hey Guys,

I was thinking with VR and the Move controls wouldn't a new RTS game like command and conquer be awesome?
I miss the days that RTS games like command and conquer were a thing. Still playing Red alert on my laptop (A).
I would glady hear your thoughts on this one/

Personally I think the standard top down view of an RTS doesn't lend itself particularly well to VR. It may work well with using the VR as a 'big' screen - seeing more detail on the units rather than having to zoom in and zoom out all the time but as a VR specific game, I don't think it would work.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

@BAMozzy: Oke, valid points! But do you also want a revival of the RTS genre? Remember command and conquer on the Ps1?

@Sanquine: There's actually a sort of RTS game coming on launch for Oculus Rift called Mech Commander I think. Whether it's coming to PS VR though, I'm not sure.

@Sanquine: Personally I preferred to play RTS games on my PC - Starcraft was my favourite and I used to play this a lot over LAN with my work colleagues over lunch breaks. I quite enjoyed C&C too but I stopped playing them when I moved back to consoles as my primary gaming source. I didn't think they worked as well on Console. I don't mind them but I wouldn't rush out to buy one at launch. I think the last I played was probably Halo Wars on the XB360 (or it could have been Sid Meier's Civilisation 5..) Halo Wars 2 is due out this year and this could spark a resurgence.

I can see them coming back but I don't see them coming to VR specifically (if at all). I think we may see them coming to the 'indie' scene at some point. They don't appear in vogue at the moment and bar a few people, it doesn't seem as though many are bothered by their absence so I think the 'big' companies will be looking to see how well Halo Wars 2 does before considering investing in a new RTS. The indie scene is most likely to take a gamble in my opinion. I see the indie scene in general copying the trends of the past and we have seen a lot of 80's style games so we may see 90's games up next....

@adf86: Was that a RTS GAME? I searched it and it looked like some sort of Mecha. Awesome though

@BAMozzy: I hope the indie scene reset everything I just dream of a modern day remake of the red alert games ( Not the thing done by fans )

@Sanquine: I got the title wrong, it's called AirMech Command. Eurogamer describe it as a "simplified RTS with some MOBA elements" so maybe not quite the C&C newcomer you want but nevertheless it'll be interesting to see how genres like this fit into VR. One thing I've noticed so far is that games that normally look mediocre or has simple gameplay become something else entirely because of the feeling VR gives.
