Remember when PS3 came out and the graphics shocked you how real it looked? Especially in the Gran Turismo Series games?
Well after watching some of the actual gameplay videos of some of the racing games, it doesn't look much different than the PS3? I mean GT5 on PS3 looked amazing. Is it just me or is it the early works in progress?
Thanks and want to hear your opinion! Just thought the visual difference should be day-and-night compared to PS3...
That was a big jump because it went from SD to HD. As games get more and more technically advanced, there aren't going to be as big jumps graphically. I think the big changes will be that of storytelling and having huge online hubs in games as well as having huge world look nice. But I don't fully agree with you. This is early next gen footage and will obviously get better as time goes on. A game like infamous second son for instance, looks like a game the ps3 could not be able to run. On the original xbox 360, games like perfect dark zero and king kong didn't look much better than ps2 games, but as time went on, they got games with better graphics
Environments do look like they are massive compared to PS3 ones. I don't think youtube does videos justice thou.
btw- supposedly even GT6 for PS3 they said will push the limits to the fullest extent of what is graphically possible on PS3. So I can only imagine how good PS4 should look.
You have to think in terms of things other than graphics too, the memory upgrade is huge and that is going to allow graphics with an ever higher fidelity to run with a lot more information at a much smoother framerate, and the draw distancees, if you look into the far off background in a game like GTA, everything will be drawn in real time and look better. In terms of graphics, I think a previous comment hit it right on the head with the SD to HD, we are used to games that have been harnessed for their superltive graphics over the past 8 yrs so expect the same to happen this gen, only this time for PS4 we dont have that difficult cell processor to entangle and discourage developers. This will be the generation of the Playstation.
Infamous second son is insane gfx, physics, tessellation...... there is no way a ps3 could run that game. Hell even my gtx 680 looks weak because of lack of optimization on PC.

I was thinking the same last night when I was looking at some detailed Ps4 screenshots. I considered my PC pretty good for a midrange spec, Playing Metro 2033 recently maxed with DX11 enabled has some of the best lighting and detail Ive seen (almost next gen in the lighting id say) But looking at Ps4 games, my PC would probably cry if I even attempted trying to play anything like inFamous or Killzone at 1080p on it lol Im hoping with the standardised hardware between platforms that PC games will be optimised better and wont require the brute force specs that get reccomended most of the time for the bigger games
Ive heard some people say that the next gen isnt too impressive. While I can understand that its not as big of a leap as it was from Ps1>Ps2 or Ps2>Ps3, I still find the games Sony have shown so far to be really impressive on the technical front. After a couple of years when the optimisations start kicking in I think people will be pleasantly suprised by what the Ps4 will be able to do.
Yeah, I think I can tell the difference. I know when the Battlefield 4 commercial started airing I could immediatey tell it was next gen graphics and not somethign PS3 could do. I'm also looking forwared to gettting rid draw distances, never did like those.
I can definitely see the graphical improvements, especially in Battlefield 4! But just the actual racing gameplay looks pretty much the same from what I've seen so far. Maybe someone has a better link to video?
Well I think TLOU pushes the boundaries of THIS gen to the limit and I haven't seen many too impressive next gen games yet. Maybe Im spoiled from PC gaming though. And I have to admit I'm disappointed with Battlefield 4. Shiny new graphics, sure, but the destruction seems to be even more scripted than in 3 and basicly it's the same games. Im probably just "over-fed" with modern military shooters.
I thought that The Division looked nice, sported some next gen shooting mechanics and skills sets, also the concept of persistent open online world is quite next gen to me.
I've always said, that graphics are just the icing on the cake, an ugly game with great gameplay is still good, a crap game with shiny graphics is still crap. So Yes - what many of you already said - I hope we will see logical improvements over this current gen like farther draw distance, more people in multiplayer, persistant online worlds etc... but most importantly hopefully people dare to take risks and come up with little innovations.
That said Im only curious about The Crew, The Division and Destiny so far. But time will tell. And yeah I really hope Naughty Dog is cooking something up for next gen to truly blow us away!
Okay now, back to TLOU... again!

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
Well it will take some time before the graphics really take off, it always does. Think about Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, and God of War 2 for example. Those games were Playstation 2 at the end of it's cycle and even now those games look almost as good and are even better than most of the current PS3 and 360 games. Now we're seeing it again with games like TLOU, GTA5, Arkham Origins, etc. that looks almost as good and even better at times as the 1st generation PS4 games.
Personally I thought most of the games Sony showed looked awesome. Kill Zone, Infamous, etc. are all beautiful games even if they aren't as jaw dropping as we might have been expecting. With that being said launch games are rarely the creme of crop and a lot of the games are still in development.
I personally feel that it has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of the launch (or close to launch) titles are multi-platform across this gen too. It's difficult to push forward to utilise the newer technology when you're still having to consider yesterday.
