September 13th sees the PS4 receiving System Software Version 4.00. According to Sony, this update brings a refreshed system UI, Folders, a new Quick Menu and Share Menu, Library improvements, and much moreā€¦

See what it looks like in the video below

Still no External HDD Support...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

The new firmware for me has been good. News feed though has gone backwards in my opinion.

Not sure I like the new UI and the game overlay seems very excessive. Maybe it will grow on me. Only HDR will get any use if a game has it before my Pro arrives. In truth though, unless this added external HDD support, I think whatever Sony does would fall a bit flat with me. The only thing I do on my console is game - almost always with physical media. As the game in the drive is always easy to find, I don't feel these changes benefit me enough to be excited. I expect the UI will not make any difference to me as I generally go straight to my game and play. The lack of HDD support affects me a lot more - yes I know I could upgrade my internal - want to know what size HDD I need for the Pro, but I already own more than 2TB of games. My XB1 (for example) has a 5TB external and that (just games) is already over half full but I could easily add another. I also know that if (or more likely when) I buy Scorpio, I can just plug these straight in and start playing - no need to connect my old console and transfer data or re-install/redownload and re-update games.

IF/when HDR comes to games like Infamous, Last of Us etc, I know I will have to wait HOURS to play these games again as I would need to decide what to delete, wait for them to reinstall, wait for the update to download and install etc as I deleted them to make room for a 'newer' game. An external HDD really adds spontaneity, flexibility and sociability to my gaming. A 2TB internal would give me more options BUT still not enough for my entire gaming library. Considering I could just buy another 5TB (or more) for my XB1, giving me 10TB (or 9.4 or whatever it is after formatting) EXTRA storage on top of the internal, the 500GB-2TB options of the PS4 feels incredibly small - especially as all games have to be installed this gen. It annoys me I can't play ANY game I have at ANY time I want. Most of games would require me to delete my current games and reinstall meaning I would have to plan hours in advance - If I had a 2TB drive a few games would still require this and that's without the 3 games I have pre-ordered and arriving before the PS4 Pro is released or the new Destiny update (which no doubt will require more game(s) to be deleted...

As a result, the ONLY thing I am really hoping for is external HDD support so I don't think I will be impressed by Software Updates until this is added

@BAMozzy I must play and manage games differently so HD space is not an issue. After I have completed a game it gets deleted. The games I know I will keep on playing stay on the machine. I also have a 1 year rule if the game has not been touched in the last year it will get deleted.

Quick menu and folders are welcome just because all I want to see when I turn on the PS4 is the icon about the game in the tray and icons about the few games I downloaded and nothing more.
My hope for external HD support is gone and now I think I'll wait Black Friday to buy me a 2TB upgrade.

@dryrain: I rarely 'complete' a game to platinum standard and very few games become 'obsolete'. I am a gamer that whilst I am often drawn to the new and current, I also enjoy dropping back to games that I haven't played in a while and 'rediscovering' them.
Now, with HDR added, a number of games have an added reason for me to revisit - or at least I would of it wasn't going to take hours and hours yo reinstall them, download patches etc, only to play for a few hours before deleting to reinstall the 'current' game(s) I am playing. I am thinking of games like the Last of Us, Infamous and even Uncharted 4 - all completed at least once but 'deleted' to make room for something else because I have 'completed' the story and need room but now with HDR due soon, offer a reason to replay that story with a new look - similar in essence to a remaster.

In truth I will probably wait until the Pro comes out as that will add extra visual enhancement but as more and more 'old' games get HDR and/or pro patches.

Story based games - as in games I predominantly play for the Story - go one of 2 ways at launch - I either play non-stop until I complete, or I tend to play 1-2 chapters but it doesn't grab me or another story is more compelling and gets 'lost' for a while. If I complete that story, its still to fresh to jump in and replay but I have every intention of replaying at a future time. The stories I left, I come back to a later date and give them another go.

I have a selection of MP games that are 'current'. Things like Destiny though can easily go months between playing but I can't delete it because of all the updates/DLC etc and know I will return. On XB1, I often go back to year 1 MP, just for a laugh with friends. We can b playing the 'latest' MP and then someone says fancy jumping on BF4 - a game I may not have played for a year or more but because I can jump straight in, I can play.

Like I said I have over 2TB of games now but only 1 is 'finished' to platinum standards. I have 3 AAA games arriving in the next month or 2 and I don't want my games to become virtually 'obsolete' because of the 'hassle' it takes to play games I own. I have never had this issue with ANY other games device!

I need help guys.

Ok, updated to 4.0, now I have a serious issue.

I can no longer access my add-ons in my library. Every game I click on, where it used to show add-ons, now doesn't. Shows trophies, option to like or buy, shows trending vids, and sometimes will show DLC from the PS Store, but not the ones I've purchased.

This is a problem, because I had to delete 19 games to make room since I'm limited to 2TB. Well now that I sold off 30 PS4 games to buy on X1 I had room to reinstall some of these other ones, exclusives and what have you.

Star Ocean. I had a code in the case, which I redeemed at launch. However, the content was deleted with the game, so now I reinstall, but can't use the code because it's spent, and I can't find my purchased add-one to reinstall either.

Anyone else find the system to be slower now following the update? Whenever I go into rest mode from the quick menu my screen freezes for about 5 seconds before I get the typical rest mode loading screen. Hope they fix that soon, feel nervous every time that happens.

@Fight_Teza_Fight: actually i have found it faster and more stable, that's strange

@FullbringIchigo: Switched off the PS4 completely. No longer have that issue, it's actually very responsive. I always keep my PS4 in rest mode so may be that was part of the problem. Dunno, like you said strange.
