Hey folks, no idea if such a subject has been brought up yet, after a brief scan of a few forum pages I didn't find it so here goes.
PS4 launches with 500 GB AND you can swap it out yourself
Great! Since I am planning on going mostly or if possible FULL digital coming next gen, I was thinking:
- Will the PS4 use the same laptopsized, 2,5 inch hard disks like the PS3, given its size, I guess its a yes hm? - 5.400 or 10.000 rpm? - up to what capacity? Any clues on that yet? 2 TB? - what about SOLID STATE disks, do you guys think it would speed up loading/saving and booting up games or even the system itself like it does on a PC?
Gimme your thoughts!

Im guessing its the same as the Ps3 is. No idea on compatibily with RPM speeds or capacity yet, to be honest Im not sure Sony are sure themselves lol As for SSD, well I suspect it would offer an improvement on the standard HDD. The Ps3 could actually be improved somewhat when using one so its a given that the Ps4 would benefit from one considering its much further along the technological route than the Ps3 is. A decent sized SSD tho is still relatively expensive
Yeah thats all exactly my thoughts on the subject so far. When the Hardware is released it would be interesting to know what kind of BUS they are using and then you can judge the advantage you might get with a SSD. But like you said, 512 GB of SSD is still quite expensive and LESS wouldn't make sense if I plan to go fully digital. Ho-hum. Small SSD for quick System and a big 1TB thing via USB3 for storage of downloads? Do we know yet if actual games and software can be started from external HD?

Really? Well if you ever assembled your own PC it's simple basics really! But hey, it all boils down to this: can you make your PS4 like 20%-80% faster when performing from hard disk yes or no, all it would require is a simple hard-disk swap (which is easy to do even for newcomers) and the correct hard disk.
would YOU personally do it? If it could be like 20-80% faster for 5 minutes of work and lets say 180,- of investment? (thats only 250 GB SSD disk though).

Id go with an SSD for system n external drive for downloads too, if its possible. Even though Sony have shown the UI lately they still haven't talked much about the features of the Os much. Theres still quite a few things we dont know yet but iid say thats its probably a given SSD will be fully supported at least
I would like to know that as well. Will it be a 2.5" or 3.5"? I plan on doing an immediate HDD swap right away so I don't have to worry about it for a very long time and imagine I will be getting more digital content this gen as well.
