Don’t know if anyone else has brought this up as I only joined yesterday but does anyone have any idea about the reason that PS5 game trophies do not show up on the PS4 (or PS3 for that matter)?
Although I was lucky enough to get a PS5 at launch, I still have a vast backlog of PS4 games that are either installed on my PS4, or that I have started on PS4 previously and will therefore finish on the PS4 rather than transfer the saves to the PS5. Therefore I am actually on the PS4 far more often than the PS5 but it doesn’t show the trophies earned on PS5 games and my level is different as a result.
Not sure why this is the case as PS4 trophies have always shown on the PS3 (which I also still use semi-regularly).
At first I thought it must’ve merely been a strange oversight that would get patched within the first couple of weeks but still nothing, anybody have any ideas about this?
So, little addition to this, my PS4 now has an updated level for me and the correct amount of trophies (it updated after I popped a few PS4 trophies today) it’s still not showing the PS5 games when you go into the trophies list but the overall details are correct.
The trophy file format was changed for PS5 and the legacy consoles don't support the new format, which is why they don't show.
As you said, Sony could patch the legacy consoles to be able to show the new format, but it may be a low priority for them vs how much work it would be (e.g. the game icons for PS5 games are square instead of rectangle so they may need to redo the legacy console UI's).
