I enjoy a good roleplaying game and there have been some good ones so far on PS4 but I would really like to see a game where you act out the role of the character within the game rather than just playing you set character. The community involved with Arma 3 Life is great along with others on the PC .
@dryrain: The Witcher 3 kind of does that as your have your regular monster hunting quests mixed in with the usual save the world stuff. Would love a Witcher game which was even more grounded and just had you monster hunting with maybe a smaller scale narrative involving other witchers, maybe something about trying to revive the schools
I used to believe RPG meant ROLL playing game. Ie) you play it with a dice or has a rng to decided outcomes.
I then realised it ms ROLE - but every game has you in a role, wherever that's Mario, Nathan drake, clementine or voldo.
It really confuses me the name of the genre.

@themcnoisy: The difference between playing a Role like Nathan Drake for example is those roles have a predetermined path through a game - you are not in 'full' control of the pathway through that game. An RPG gives players the opportunity to decide their path, build their character up in a way they want etc. RPG's often let you pick and/or design your own character, it has a 'levelling' system which allows you to customise your characters 'strengths' to your playstyle and often has weapons/gear with specific attributes to help mould that character into something unique to you.
EVERYONE plays the same Nathan Drake, but my Fallout 4 character is unique to me.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Any games are role playing games. RPG's such as Skyrim make the process easier by giving you tools to build your character up how you want and make choices that influence the story, but to actually "role play" within a game is more about the players willingness to actually pretend he/she is the lead player character while he/she plays and work his/her own story and emotions into the proceedings. You might decide that your Drake is afraid to use automatic weapons as a result of an accident he had as a kid, and therefore only play with melee and pistols.
That's where stuff gets a bit creepy, frankly.
RPG has always been a poor descriptive term in my opinion. No Mans Sky is perhaps a true RPG in that you could impart whatever story you wanted onto your player character, but then it gets described as a..what? Space simulator? :S
I may being in a shrinking minority but I would love to see more turn based RPG's come out. Either way the genre still stands as a personal favorite of mine.
@Clay_Davis83: Same here. Which is why I'm most likely gonna get Grand Kingdom. Already had it pre-ordered and will stick with it if the demo's decent. Other games I'm looking forward to are Battle Chasers and of cause Persona 5. Oh yeah, and I Am Setsuna as well.
As far as "role playing" in a game is concern, I'll usually try to name my characters with a name that suits that world and that's pretty much it.lol
@kyleforrester87: Totally agree with you there. That's how you can technically classify any game. Unless you are playing Sims and make you, but that's another thing. I mean in sports games you play as a player on a pro team, racing games you are a race car driver and fantasy games your a sword welding hero. Unless you are those in real life, you are playing a role.

@Clay_Davis83: I'm with you there! BRING BACK TURN BASED! I would be more excited for any turn-based rpg in the realm of early FF games, than pretty much anything else that could come out.
@BodyW-outOrgans: it is (should be under PS2 for PS4 header), not too expensive either. None of the Wild Arms series yet. Holding my breath for the Breath of Fire series
@Hego: i'd love that to happen with Witcher, there were some really interesting characters in Witcher 3 i'd love to have been expanded Cerys, Dandelion. @Clay_Davis83: Fallout 4, play the entire game in Vats, I more or less do, practically turn based. Same goes for Dragon Age Inquisition. A lot of the stereotypical turn based games aren't appealing to me at the moment, apart from Blood Bowl 2.
I'm also a huge turn-based fan. Y'all should check out Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition. It's become my all time favorite game!! I'm really hoping they bring II over to consoles as well! 😊
@kyleforrester87: I think once RPGs and JRPGS in particular became amalgamated with western styles that I looked into the name, I never understood how ocarina of time shared the same genre as final fantasy 7. But I suppose Zelda is actually an action 3d metroidvania.

@Clay_Davis83: ive barely had chance to play it but I do love it, its really slow though if you wanna play it properly and try to make every move really count, if you dont mind the slow pace id reccomend it.
