Topic: Solar Ash Kingdom OT

Well, much like the HLD topic I spearheaded, I thought I’d make a topic for Heart Machines newly announced game - Solar Ash Kingdom. Much like the HLD topic I expect this to be a conversation generally with myself, but I hope some others are looking forward to it.

Having watched it a couple of times:

I’m not sure about the art style, but I think it’ll grow on me. It’s hard to tell what the game is exactly. It almost looks like a 2.5d platformer but it could be no real indication of how it plays.

I only watched it once with sound, but the song does sound like DP, so hopefully he’s returning in at least some capacity?

And the character looks a bit like the Drifter with the cape n all. I wonder if the games will be linked in anyway. Perhaps getting a more.. samurai vibe from this one, though?

And of course, it might not actually come to consoles at all.

Definitely sounds like DP to me!

I'm not sure about the art style. I was expecting something 8-bit. The first few scenes look pretty good, but I'm just not sure about the main character. The rest looks pretty good. One thing I'm always afraid of is when small-scale indie devs make a 3D game, and it just isn't... up to par with the rest you know. Wonky animations, and a general low budget feel; when a beautiful 2D game would've been more than enough. Good for them for trying something more 'ambitious' though. As long as it's half as good as HLD, I'm set!

@Octane As far as the graphical style goes, it kind of reminds me of Braid (which I loved) going to The Witness (which I didn’t think much of)

I guess the trailer should be treated as conceptual as far as gameplays concerned, like I say it looks a bit like a 2.5d platformer. Could be a card game for all we know. Or a battle royal 😂

Still, I trust they’ll deliver on atmosphere.

It better not suck, and if it’s good it better not be PC only.

@kyleforrester87 Never played Braid, but I loved The Witness.

If DP is doing all the music, I'm sure the atmosphere will be there. But if you watch that trailer with no sound, it definitely doesn't convey the same message.

The environments in the first part of the trailer seem too detailed to be just 2D I think. But I don't know. I think it'll be similar to HLD, but in 3D. At least, that would be a safe bet I reckon.
