Topic: Souls + Bloodborne Games ranked

I jumped into this series very late. I was holding off playing due to the possible difficulty and lack of quick saves ,which when having kids can be a deal breaker. I bought DS3 on a whim last summer looking for an RPG and I got a good deal. Wow, was I missing out. It is one of my favorite games. I recently played Bloodborne and liked that a lot as well, maybe a little less than ds3 due to ds3 having more class choices and the story a bit more coherent. I was wondering what others thought of the whole series and where they rank the games. I also wanted to know if I should get the remaster of ds1 before I play ds2 or will it not matter?

Coming late to the series is no bad thing as it's now complete so no waiting for the next one to release, here's my order of preference.

Bloodborne
Demon's Souls
Dark Souls
Dark Souls 2 SotfS
Dark Souls 3

If you're getting into Soulsborne type games I can highly recommend The Surge, it's a little rough around the edges but the combat system is extremely satisfying.

Dark souls may move up when i play the remaster though.

Not played enough of the others to judge them yet. Bloodborne first due to its gameplay, awesome weapons, setting, and great PvP. Then Dark Souls due to its very memorable and distinctive characters, bosses and locations And of course there is the genius connectivity design where the areas are linked together, which is simply brilliant. Unlocking shortcuts is so satisfying. Maybe Dark Souls should be first, mmmm. Mmmmm, hmmmmmm?
DS3 is very good but there's lot more recycling going on and it's less memorable than the other two.

@Elodin To be honest they're all great, but I haven't touched Demon's Souls for nearly a decade, it could be a dog's dinner by now. Playing Dark Souls 2 before Dark Souls 1 won't matter too much. Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3 are more closely linked, while Dark Souls 2 is kind of out there on it's own, apart from some interesting references.

I'd be keen to see your personal ranking once you've played them all, especially since your first experience of Dark Souls 1 will be the remaster.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@Gremio108 thank you for the info. It appears I played the 2 best, but I'm still looking forward to the other 2. I really hope they make another. Maybe they will do a bloodborne 2 or even a whole new series.

@LieutenantFatman I too liked how areas are linked together with shortcuts as well. The recycling for ds3 was not noticed by me of course since it was my first game I played of the series.

Dichotomy

@Elodin You may want to google Shadows Die Twice for their next game.

For me Dark Souls is the best in the series, its interconnected world that loops back on itself is too good not to elevate it above the others. While I liked Demon's Souls when I played it, I'd guess it wouldn't hold up against later entries. DS2 is good if you go into it expecting a different experience than the other games, I didn't when I first played it though and it wasn't until much later I sat down with the game properly and played it for what it is.

How about the expansions? Which ones do you think is best? Either a collection or the separate parts.

@JohnnyShoulder I have yet to try any of the expansions. I rarely buy dlc and only play it if it is all ready included in the game. For me the price is too high for most DLCs and I have too many other games too play.

Saying all that, for these games I might make an exception.

@Dichotomy Nice teaser trailer. I watched Vaatividya's video on possible theories for the next game. All sound great. Thanks for the tip.

I first played bloodborne and enjoyed it. Then I played ds2 sotfs and I enjoyed it but less than bloodborne and I was frustrated by some things but I still like it even though the community seems to dislike it heavily. Now I'm playing ds3 and it's a good game but seems like I'm burned out on the series as I don't care anymore if I miss some optional areas, bosses or NPCs which was unimaginable in the previous two games. It's understandable as this is my third souls game in as many months. And I have Nioh to play right after ds3...

I have not played DS3 or Demon Souls, but I’m going to throw in Nioh, because it’s a Souls-like (& a damn good one at that).

Bloodborne
(Nioh)
Dark Souls
Dark Souls 2

@Fight_Teza_Fight Oooh no you can't do that! I think we are specifically talking about games from the series (Bloodborne is considered a spin off) and not games that play like em.

@Elodin Ah yes Vaatividya, the softest voice on YouTube. I see he has just upgraded his sound setup and about to embark on a big project. I recommend the dlc especially for DS2 as it is probs better than the main game!

@JohnnyShoulder Just ignore Nioh then . Really need to get to Dark Souls 3. I’ve had the game for over a year, but I need to get into the right mindset to have my behind handed to me.
If a Demon Souls remake doesn’t get announced before the end of the year I’ll play it on PS3.

TheTetrisGuy

In my opinion, Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy is the best Dark Souls game.

I've only played a tiny bit of Nioh but what I've played was very good. It's basically Bloodborne's hyperactive younger brother. My mate is playing through it, I'm going to borrow his copy when he's done. Could be a while though, he reckons he's going for platinum.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@Elodin Going off the teaser trailer my guess is it'll be a new series altogether, but that teaser was so brief it's hard to read anything into it really! We'll find out at E3 I think. Sadly I think they're done with the Souls games (remakes/remasters aside) but Bloodborne 2 is definitely possible
