Since the remake is here of one of the best trilogies on the original PS is out now I figured a few of us will be playing it so here's somewhere we can discuss it
Overall I am very pleased with it. I 100% the first hub world and two of the first areas so I got a good feel for it. Playing it brought a smile to my face as so many good memories playing the first Spyro came back to me. The graphics look gorgeous. The sound was good too. The only thing when I tried to play the original music it sounded muffed compared to the remixes.
So what is everyone else's thoughts on this remaster?

Few things caught my eye. Visually, great. Kinda glad there isn't a Switch version. Kinda sad there isn't a PC version.
Audio-wise, much better than Crash. More faithful and representative.
Controls, good. Charging felt a little stiff on the left and right movement but it's easy to adjust to.
Bosses were much more aggressive in this version of Spyro 1, a nice touch. Also like the loading screen control you have.
Some jumps felt a little TOO precise compared to the originals and I don't know why. Everything else about the control is top notch. Just those few jumps.
Adding skill points to Spyro 1 is neat.
Some hitboxes are a bit weird. The statues in Colossus, and one or two things in Spyro 1, don't react to being flamed like you would expect unless you use a certain angle. Weird.
Overall, very happy. Shame the guys in Hurricos no longer sound like SpongeBob.
Oh, but performance. Man. Some notable pop-in on grass even from the Artisan hub, and the frame rate is....trying to be 60? Also that motion blur is mighty aggressive.

@Knuckles-Fajita Yeah the skill points confused me at first. I got one in the hub world and I saw it said got 1 skill point. First thing that went through my mind was what did they add skill trees or something. I was like can I improve his fire, jumping ability etc.
Of course it didn't help that I was playing Borderlands 2 before I played Spyro today.

It justt feels better than Crash, probably because Spyro's ckbtrol is tweaked per game instead of Crash where they tried a one size fits all.
Doesn't help that Spyro was my first game so any cbanges no matter how minute are immediately apparent.
One change I appreciate is it is now very clear jf you supercharge and maintain it you gain speed.
@Tasuki That skill point jump was the only thing to concern me. It felt a lot tighter than it should but I also discovered the devs compensated for that, unlike in Crash where a tight jump in the remake that wasnt originally had to be made perfectly, Spyro can actually soft of lift himself up if you juuuust miss.
I'll get this soon-ish. There's plenty of games I haven't gotten to yet, in addition to the backog.
I don't remember anything about the original game, but I am looking forward to a revamped Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon.

A little oddity: In the trophy lists for Spyro 2, it lists a trophy for "Don't Get Hit by Bob". Seems they renamed Bombo to Bob, at least in the PS4 EU release.

Well let's say it's obvious this one was outsourced to Sanzaru (Alongside the sheer catalogue of other studios credited).
Sheila feels...weird with momentum, Sparx sometimes DOESN'T pick up gems, the lip-syncing and overall production values feel lower....and boy, I already ran into to some er...some bugs let's say. Plus, the physics on the skateboard are so weird. You slow down while jumping, and can't really pick up speed again, but some jumps off of ramps are scripted. Like...the game wants there to be momentum physics it feels like....but then scripts stuff...
I mean...I was really enjoying this. Spyro 3 was always my least favourite, though still enjoyable title that is bogged down by so much fluff.
But this...wow.
Also, a character in Cloud Spires didn't talk to me until I had passed them, and for some reason after a dialogue box in this game, Spyro just kinda...gets stuck in one direction regardless of where you move, just briefly.
Development obviously wasn't smooth if there was so much outsourcing and the end result was this...after a delay.
I finally got started on this and it's amazing how short these games are now! I've just 100% completed the artisan world in the first game and it's taken less than two hours. The annoyance of hunting for the last gems is still there though..
Weirdly, I started playing the game once it was able to as it installed (digital version) and I can't use the balloon as it hasn't fully installed. I assumed it would have downloaded the whole of the first game before being able to play. I guess that's me done for the night then.
It's also rather generous with the trophies. I've already got four without trying. 10% platinum achievement level is pretty high too.
@Thrillho your dragon fly can lead you to the gems in Spyro 1 now, too, which makes it a lot quicker. But I agree, it's so much easier than I remember.
@Knuckles-Fajita@RogerRoger Got the plat for the first game yesterday and it was really interesting to read your impressions on the trilogy.
The first one is the only original game of the trilogy that I played as a kid and completing it on PS4 was a very fulfilling gaming experience. I’m afraid that when I play 2 and 3 now the little dragon in me will become burnt-out soon. I am curious about them, sure, but I want to give them a fair shot at pulling me in in their own way and constantly comparing them to the first game would be detrimental to the experience.
So I’m going to give it some time, enjoy my nostalgic afterbuzz and try Ripto’s Rage in a few months.
@JJ-firl I’m also having a break between games, as I did with the Crash trio otherwise it might be a bit much.
I remember playing Year of the Dragon but had a pirate copy which had some quite amusing anti-piracy code which ranged from the fairies telling you off for playing, through to the game literally wrecking itself at the end so you lost all of your eggs and couldn’t finish the game!
