Well since the beta started today I figure we could use one of these. So free feel to discuss Star Wars Battlefront here.
I have been looking forward to this since I saw the first gameplay trailer. I loved the first two on PS2 so this one is easily one of my most anticipated games this year.

Played one match on single mode and a couple on PvP. Does anyone know how to aim that binoculars special (L1+R1) thingy? I was playing PVP when I got that special pick up but I accidentally killed myself with it because I didn't know how to aim it at the enemies. XD
I think the atmosphere and presentation of the game is perfect, but the guns need more personality, and less range, and the random power-ups are a terrible idea. The arcade nature of it doesn't fit the game. I feel like there needs to be a better way to get access to vehicles too. Overall though, I'm still pretty hyped and can't wait for the full game, even though Battlefront 2 will probably be the one that really nails is perfectly.
I think the weather and demonstration of the experience is ideal, but the weapons need more character, and less variety, and the unique power-ups are a dreadful concept. The video arcade characteristics of it does not fit the experience. I feel like there needs to be a better way to get accessibility automobiles too. Overall though, I'm still fairly discussed and can't delay for the full activity, even though Battlefront 2 will probably be the one that really claws is completely.
Remember its just a demo. I think the power ups are there so everyone gets to sample them and not just the die hard pvp guys. They will probably work like cod games where u get one after a kill streak or something. This is my first venture into online multiplayer and found my fun being ruined by people that play these type of games all the time so being able to try out the power ups was fun for all of us beginners.
I'm not gonna get this game because of its lack of a campaign but that being said, I would still recommend it to my friends who like these games. I think the graphics are great and Star Wars is awesome so there is that too.
Being a diehard Star Wars fan (almost) of the first hour I had this on my radar, I loved the first two Battlefronts as they were basicly "Battlefield 1942" in Space. Now I finally had the time to give the Beta a run of about 2 hours and I have to say: looks good, sounds fantastic but either it's me being burnt out of the classic "multiplayer shooter" or I don't know what. I like all I see and the perks and ships are fun to use but remove the Star Wars coat'o paint and all you're left with is a pretty standard objective based/arcade style multiplayer shooter. I'm used to getting "involved" into the game worlds I delve into and get a rich Story or the setup to create my own (GTA online anyone, haha). I fear, as polished and close to the "real Star Wars deal" this might eventually be, I might end up skipping it as it's hard for me to justify putting time aside playing an almost multiplayer only title with the groundwork I've seen and done a million times over already when there is so much else to play!

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
@Scollurio: I feel the same way bud. I might rent this game upon its release and see what some of the other modes are, but so far I am thinking of cancelling my preorder. To me it just felt like Battlefield with a Star Wars skin which was my fear. Visually it's a great game I will give it that gameplay not so much.

I did enjoy the beta, it ran really well and I got into a game really quickly but I still don't think they'll be enough content for £50.

Latest Review: Star Wars Battlefront Beta
Please add me as I need more friends.
@Tasuki: How is it like Battlefield with a Star Wars skin? Look at the originals; how are they not much more similar to Battlefield than the new Battlefront? Outside of large scale battles with guns and vehicles around (in the form of power-ups no less), how are they similar? I think Dice was so focused on not making Battlefield, it lost too much Battlefront. And really, the old Battlefronts were pretty Pandemic's take on Battlefield if it was set in Star Wars.
I played the beta and quite enjoyed it and watched it on Twitch quite a lot game looks a lot of fun but not sure how much people play as a team sometimes just seems like a mass brawl but with guns. Reading Amazon reviews the game is getting so much hate with a lot of one stars. I am not sure most of them are genuine. I take most reviews from most sites with a pinch of salt. There seems to be a lot of negativity towards EA as a company. For me I have been happy with the games I played from EA and its affiliates. Just wanted to know what you guys and women thought of the game? Or if you plan to buy it later. I would like to buy it but will probably wait till next year now as I will be getting a lot of other games which will be online play or have a long length.
A lot of the negative feedback seems to be because it does not have a normal campaign but that was known a long time ago so why buy a game expecting a campaign when there was never one to start with.
I am unsure if a Star Wars Battlefront thread has already been created but I am creating this thread.
I enjoy playing multiplayer games. I am not a huge fan of CoD or Battlefield but I really enjoyed Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode and that game launched my interests in playing online multiplayer. There are not many great games that are out there, in which grasps me to repeatedly play online multiplayer. Currently, none are on PS4 for me.
When buying games I keep them for my collection and I do not want to mistakenly buy Battlefront and regret paying the new game price for a game and not touch it. (I only buy new games). I have gone through multiple reviews and they are mixed - great, good, okay - and I usually use reviews to assist me in my decision to choose a game I am unsure of but I have no idea since the reviews are up and down the scale. This is a tough decision as a gamer. HELP!
Conclusion: Is Star Wars Battlefront worth buying?
@iSillyBoiJudas: Star Wars: Battlefront would be very difficult for me to recommend at the current price and with its current contents. Visually the game is stunning and recreates the Star Wars universe with impeccable detail. Some of the voice acting sounds a bit off and the dialogue itself isn't always the best but apart from this, the sound is very authentic too.
In terms of its MP, there are a few maps that have a 15 wave 'survival' mode similar to Mass Effect 3's which can be played solo, couch or online co-op with 1 other. Each has 3 'challenges' to it - things like beat wave 15, collect 5 things during it, beat 15 on the hardest setting, which kind of limits these too. Unlike Mass Effect, you don't really have that many options in your character selection, weapons etc either - certainly not going to make too much of a difference.
The same goes for its main feature, the MP itself. The biggest modes (Walker Assault and Supremecy) only use 4 of the Maps - each based in 1 of 4 places - Endor, Tattooine, Hoth, Sullust. The smaller modes have more variety in the maps but these are essentially based off the 4 places too. I can't deny that they look incredible.
The gameplay itself though feels very 'shallow'. That's not to say it isn't 'fun' if you like that kind of thing, but the lack of depth wears thin quite quickly. There are 11 primary weapons and around 25 (+/- 5) 'Star Cards' - these are your grenades, secondary weapons, jet pac etc - to unlock via 'credits' which are awarded after each match based on performance. A lot of the 11 primaries feel similar, there are no 'classes' (something the original Battlefront games had) to perform certain 'roles' within the battles - there are no medics, no defensive, no recon or no aggressive assault style classes. It means that pretty much every soldier is the same and therefore lacks a lot of tactical play. Even CoD feels more tactical as you can craft your class to be an aggressive rusher, a more defensive tank, a long range or CQC specialist etc. The lack of 'unlocks' also contribute to the overall experience. Each match just offers 'credits' which are used to unlock the various weapons and Star Cards, they are also used to unlock the limited soldier customisation too and that's it. I found games like BF and CoD kept me playing longer than I intended to unlock the next attachment, camo, weapon etc but SW:BF doesn't feel very rewarding. It doesn't offer much variety - by that I am referring to the way the game plays as pretty much every soldier moves the same, weapons kill the same and feel very similar etc etc. Its not long before you feel you have seen everything the game offers.
Its single player content is limited to a few 'training' missions which can be completed in an hour or 2. These can also be done with a friend - either online or co-op. These also made me feel like Dice missed great opportunity as they have some great cut-scenes - albeit brief, but show the potential a story campaign could have offered.
As a First Person Shooter, the game is seriously lacking in a lot of areas. Compared to other games on the market - inc BF4, this is very poor. I can't deny that its one of, if not the best looking games currently available and for Star Wars fans, the look is spot on. Its also good fun in the early stages but as you keep playing, you reach a point of 'is that it?'. Its as if all the budget, time and energy was spent on creating the 'authentic' visuals but forgot to put much of a 'game' in it.
If you are not a 'Star Wars' fan - more a fan of FPS games, this is very disappointing. At most I would give this 5/10 in that case (4/10 if you don't have 'friends that play - couch or co-op). For Star Wars fans maybe a 6/10 as those visuals and sounds are excellent.
Obviously this is my opinion as someone who plays a lot of FPS games and online games too. I guess if you don't play many FPS or online games, it could be a good introduction as its fairly basic in that regard. Even its vehicle controls are relatively easy and the dogfights are as well - especially compared to battlefields jets and helicopters! Its a game that I feel will be very short lived in its current state. I know its due to get another Map/mode with the Battle of Jakku but I still think it needs a LOT more added FREE and soon too otherwise I feel the majority of the community will leave.

@BAMozzy: Thanks. This does give me a different view of the game & I enjoy playing games longer where you feel there has to be more to achieve beyond credits. Also I like characters who are unique in there playing style. But Star Wars, from my knowledge, only characters beyond Clones, Droids, & the Republic have different variations of styles when engaging in battles. Thanks for your opinion.
@iSillyBoiJudas: The characters are definitely not unique in their playing style. All have exactly the same option in set up for example and the primaries feel very similar overall. Granted some fire faster but have lower damage, some are more pistol like in their appearance, but they don't fill different roles. The Star Cards give you your grenades, secondaries and movement options so you have a bit of option here - whether you want to have a jet pack and sniper or grenade and torpedo but it doesn't change the 'role' you play. It doesn't matter if you are a rebel or imperial soldier, you move the same, have access to the same array of weaponry and cards too. The only difference is the uniform they wear.
Credits themselves are obviously useful in the early stages but as you progress, there is a very limited choice of what to use them on. I guess you could unlock stuff that you probably won't use or at least not that often and that leaves just customisation options like the way your soldier looks and emotes you can use. Its not like BF or CoD where you can unlock things that have significance - like camos, badges, emblems etc. I know these are cosmetic but the amount of times I have ended up playing an extra hour or two to unlock something that shows a certain achievement - like weapon mastery, a 100 headshots etc with a specific weapon. Winning matches alone isn't reward enough these days with modern FPS games, both CoD and BF reward you with medals and ribbons for your performances. Its not often I go without unlocking something in these matches that have some impact - like attachments for weapons that change how they feel, function, handle etc or some new gear, perks etc that can change the way my character can influence the battle. I know that SW:BF has Star Cards that can have a bit of an impact - like the jet pack to get into or out of situations, an Ion Torpedo to take out vehicles etc but like I said they are unlocked in the early stages.
The original Battlefront games had classes. This gave a lot more variety and options. Its still present in Battlefield too and gives players a 'role' to fill. Even CoD, which many consider a 'shallow' experience has the option to customise your set-up to fulfil different roles - whether that's an aggressive rusher, an objective taker or defender etc. The primaries in each class fill different roles as well let alone the roles different classes can offer.
Don't get me wrong though, the game is stunning to look at and certainly many Star Wars fans will be impressed by the details. In its current state, its fun to play and I haven't had any issues with the way it plays in general. I don't see it lasting the duration of its Season Pass or even lasting until the first DLC drops though. I can't see the community sticking with it that long or wanting to buy into the extra content either.
The co-op 'survival mode doesn't offer the replayability of CoD Zombies or even Mass Effect 3's either. At least with Zombies you have unlimited waves and therefore something to beat, Mass Effect 3 gives many different characters and abilities to try and succeed with. This just offers a 3 star 'challenge' so once all 3 are achieved, there is little reason to return. They are 'predictable' too so that you know what each wave will bring after a while. I got 2 Stars on my first attempt at Tattooine and did that Solo - the third was to complete it on its hardest difficulty but as that was my first attempt, solo and within the first hour, I went for a normal difficulty.
For those that maybe don't play online FPS games, this isn't a bad option - particularly if you like Star Wars too. Iy even offers battles against AI too - A way to get used to the maps and game-play before jumping into the online. Other games can be a bit daunting with all the options but this is quite simple. Its relatively old school in its game play and quite easy to pick up but because of this, I think many FPS fans will find it very shallow after a short while.
