Did people really expect decision choices in TLoU/TLoU2? It's like they've never played a Naughty Dog game or any action adventure game before. Strange complaint.
@KratosMD With "after having experienced certain story events" you mean after having watched leaked videos without having played the game, which is essential to understand and build the characters?
Like imagine if in Detroit: Become Human, you could only achieve the worst possible ending. Who would like that? Seriously.
Different games. Detroit: Become Human was all about choices. That's pretty much the only thing you do in that game.
But I don't think a 'bad' ending is bad in itself. It's nice if a story has a good ending, but nearly every story has, so I really don't mind if one doesn't have a happy ending once in a while. That being sad, I've just reached day 3, so I think I'm 60-70% in, and I have yet to see anything that's upsetting, or I don't agree with.
I've just started Day 2 in Seattle. I'm so impressed with this game, it has lots of tense moments but there is definitely light amidst the darkness.
Oh and I have no problem killing dogs. I've been caught by one and it's not pleasant, very gruesome ending for Ellie. They're not exactly soppy Labradors or feisty Spaniels. They're not running up to you with a tennis ball in their mouths!
It's kill or be eaten, it's that simple. Eat lead pooch!
Youtubers and live streamers are the contemporary version of scandalistic press: take a small or false fact and turn it into a media event, then make it grow bigger and bigger to catch people attention. When I look for a review I look for a detailed and objective examination on games' main elements, something similar to an essay (such a terrible word!).
That aspect of Part 2 is mainly why I'm so interested in trying it to be perfectly honest @Areus
If it was The Last Of Us 2: Clickerless in Seattle and just a bog standard sequel with more Ellie and Joel adventures in the post apocalypse I'd not be interested in the slightest.
...It probably helps I don't have that strong of an investment in the characters admittedly compared to others
@Zuljaras I'm sincerely curious to read those reviews once I've finished the game. I'll finally understand what's wrong with me and most of the regulars here on Pushsquare.
In the meantime I keep playing it, envying those who rated it 9 or 10 since now they are having fun with the Naughty Dogs' bribes!
However most people go for either 0/10 or 10/10 which both are impossible.
I agree that 0 is impossible. The game isn't a bug-riddled unplayable mess. From a technical perspective it's impressive. But I don't see why people can't score it a 10 if they want to. If they enjoyed the story as well, go for it I'd say. Story is subjective anyway.
@Octane Well it is ALL a personal opinions. People may score it as they want to. The reviews are there to advise you if you should give your 60$ for the game. On the other hand the 0/10 vs 10/10 war is hilarious.
Did you read the news that in some stores they refuse to return the game one day after the purchase? I have no idea why.
After all it is a sequel and 95% of the players probably loved the first one and that is why they bought the second one. Just like Pokemon it relies on its name more than anything.
@Zuljaras Most stores that I know of will only accept returns if there is something physically wrong with the game, like a scratched disk or something. Unless consumer laws have changed. Most sensible people would have done their research about the game beforehand if they were that worried about spending money on a game. It is just tough luck otherwise, I've bought plenty of games I've bought full price and did not like and did not expect to get a refund.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@JohnnyShoulder A year ago the stores here accepted games if you got the wrong version. Many parents buy PS game for the Xbox as they do not know the difference
Also some stores would give you part of the price back if the game came with DLC code paper inside as they could not check if the code is used.
Now it is only possible if you did not remove the plastic wrap of the game.
The problem with this situation is probably that people claimed false advertisement. But in that case they should try legal actions because the store has nothing to do with that.
If people are claiming false advertisement, they can do the same for literally every big budget movie out there. Almost every Marvel and DC film add scenes in the trailers to throw people off from the twists, since they know that with the expectations, crazy fans will try and guess everything before it comes out. Literally why bother getting annoyed about ‘fake trailers’, it’s just silly.
The false advertising claims are funny, but I do think there's a question and talking point there. How accurate do game trailers need to be?
It always gets spoken about when a game doesn't perform as well as a trailer or gameplay reveal, or if puddles are graphically downgraded after release.
Maybe soon we'll get a PS soapbox on this. I think it's quite an interesting discussion
@roe I dunno. I'm pretty certain that all the trailers we've seen are in the game, except for the announcement trailer perhaps. The gameplay demos are literally sections from the game, so I don't understand why people say it's false advertising.
@Zuljaras Lmao, vocal majority. No. Even if you look at a small sample size like Push Square, there are more people who enjoyed the game than didn’t. The ones that didn’t spammed the comments of the articles with about 30 comments each, repeating the same arguments over and over.
Are people really pretending to have their money back only because the story is different from what they imagined after seeing some trailers?
...
...
...
Wow.
@Octane there's a pretty significant alteration to one of the trailers. Like I say, I'm not agreeing with the outrage here, but I do see where they're coming from.
The main bit causing the complaints is the "you think I'd let you do this on your own" line that, in one of the trailers, is said by Joel. In the actual game it's said by Jesse and is far less impactful than it seemed from the trailer. So I can definitely see the argument for complaint there. Not that I think anything can/should be about it now though.
