Topic: Trophies - are you a completionist?

The thing with the trophies, how do you personally handle it?
I have a backlog of just a few games that I could eventually platinum (only a few because I didn't join the PS community until late summer this year). I'd love to try and get platinum trophies for each and every game I get on PS4, that would ensure I get the most out of every game and every purchase is more thoroughly thought over (do I really WANT to spend that much time and effort with THAT game for platinum?!). Realisticly some games have such steep requirements for all the trophies it's basically not happening. I'd bei interested in how you folks handle this. Do you even care for trophies? I do care for them to some extent, not for bragging rights (pointless since I don't have THAT much time to game anyways and every 12 year old - no offense - will beat me to it) but in a way I see it as a method of getting more out of my games (given that the game is even worth being played that much) and in a way "honor" an awesome game. So that means I still need to platinum The Last Of Us..

Thoughts?

in all honesty i don't give a flying monkey about trophies/achievements, yeah they can add a bit of replyability to a game but i just think they are a useless addition that isn't needed in fact their only real use is to tell you that you got so far in a game or that you actually did something

you don't get anything for them and it's not like you can display them on a shelf (although they could add that to playstation home, having a trophy room you could show off to mates might make them more interesting)

anyway those are just my thoughts

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

Fair enough, I didn't care at all for my achievements on my Xbox360 the past couple of years but since switching to PS3 I thought I'd give them a second thought!
Trophy room, well I wouldn't use it, but what would be awesome would be a way to earn like credits for your PSN Store, like each silver is a 0,10 each gold a 0,50 and each plat a 1 euro voucher or something...

Epic

I will only go for a platinum trophy or others when I want to find reason to replay that games.
Some work for me as a 100% guide.
The only platinums I have are from Infamous 2 and Sly Cooper 1-3(They were damn easy).
So yeah, I like them when I want to keep playing that good game but I can live without them.

Im the same as Epic, I only get platinums if i want to reply a game. Like Infamous 2, play as good, then play as evil. The only platinum ive ever really had to work for was fallout 3, but it wasnt that hard, just finding bobbleheads and shizz.

I couldn't care less about trophies. They don't add any replay value to a game for me whatsoever. If I enjoy a game, Ill just keep playing it like Ive always done since I first started gaming. I don't go out of my way to get a trophy, hence no platinum for me and I play games perfectly fine without them (Ive put more hours into Oblivion on Ps3 than I did on Xbox360 even tho the 360 had achievements) Trophies also seem to dictate how you play a game when the trophy is for doing a particular activity or taking a certain path, which shouldn't be the case as your no longer playing the game yourself then if you go trophy whoreing. I pretty much only use trophies as a means to judge how far Ive to go in a game, not how much more of it Ive done as someone else. Its those kinda people that turn it into some kind of pissing contest that sours the whole trophy/achievement experiance. Great, you got a platinum on Hanna Montana. Your so much more of a gamer than me If people like trophy hunting, good for them, but I couldn't care less and Id probably prefer not to have the system in place due to it being an unwarranted distraction

I LOVE trophy hunting but only in games that I already enjoy.

I know there are a lot of people who dislike trophies or don't see the point, but to me a well made trophy list extends the gameplay experiences I get with a game. They offer clear challenges and goals for me to accomplish and provide me with a gratifying little DING.

Vanquish is a perfect example of a game with a great trophy list. Most on the list are challenging and not something you'd likely try and accomplish on your own. There aren't any grindy trophies and mots are actual skill based feats.

I understand that if someone likes a game, they'll play it anyways.. but having clear cut goals and challenges is such an easy/effective way to challenge those gamers further in a game they already enjoy. If a trophy isn't enjoyable, by all means skip that particular one.

I think the only 'problem' with trophies are poorly designed trophies that require hundreds of hours of grinding rather than skill. I think trophies should be a demonstration of skill, not time spent with a game. A platinum trophy SHOULD be bragging rights.

Honestly I am not big on Trophies/achievements.  If I get them while I am playing the storyline great if not great too.  Sometimes I will go out of my way to get the easier achievements but if its something ridiculous that requires grinding then I will pass.  I am not interested in grinding for a trophy I rather it be skill based.

I don't care about trophies at all. I like when I get them, but I don't go out of my way to get any. The only Platinum I have is for The Walking Dead - The Game, because it is achieved if you play the entire story, which I felt was great. If I like a game, I'll just replay it and I won't bother to get the trohies. Case in point, I beat Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance 3 times and I lnow I won't bother to Platinum it, even though I love that game.

I'm all about trophies but I only go for the Platinum if I REALLY REALLY like the game (like the Arkham/Uncharted games). I usually use guides from ps4cheats.com to help me out: PS4 Video Game Cheats

It's pretty awesome that now you can see how rare a trophy is, although it stinks to see the ones that everyone has lol.

I have always hated that you could not delete trophy data from games you just tried out and didn't really like. If you look at my trophy list on the PS3 it is sparse because of this reason. I would borrow or rent a game just to try it out and now I am stuck with all those trophies showing up and showing as not completed. I have set up a new PSN ID for the PS4, though, and I will probably become a completionist on the games for it.

I can't wait to see the amount of trophies and how hard it will be to achieve platinum on Destiny.

I see trophies as replay value and do them once i finished the game once, i don't buy games because of trophies but i am a completionist. I still need to finish off some games at the moment i only have around 70 platinums, you can also tell the type of player from there trophies. On the PS4 i like the % of each trophy going from rare to ultra rare, yeah so for me thay add replay value.
