Definitely feel like Iām making progress now in Assassinās Creed Origins, thatās the second group of baddies taken out. The Crocodile was by far the most evil, the whole sequence with Shadya was heartbreaking. I havenāt been more happy to bump off a baddie in a game for quite a while.
So as Iāve said previously (I think in this thread) iāve finally returned to get the plat on Sekiro after not playing it since June 2019. Iāve been putting it off as the sheer difficulty of the bosses really stuck in my mind. Donāt get me wrong I loved the game but, I was definitely hesitant to return after so long away.
Well, after a good few hours farming a late game section for upgrade mats, I feel back in the flow and... āwhatā a game! I know thatās hardly news what with the various Game of the year awards it garnered but it controls so well. You really feel like you can do exactly what you want to do with the character once the controls embed. If anyone was on the fence about playing it, youād be missing out if you didnāt.
@nessisonett Yeah, Berenike's an absolute monster and hideous to boot. The assassination targets in Origins are particularly foul people. You're getting through it at quite a snappy pace! Playing Odyssey, few of the villains are as well developed as the ones in Origins, and my Kassandra is such a murderous wretch that it has little meaning 120 hours in. Although Origins is certainly a big game, I how the main targets relate back to Bayek and ground everything.
After reading some discussion, I got the itch to try my hand at Persona 5 again. I continue to really enjoy God of War, but for some reason I felt i wanted a short break and I thought Iād fire up P5 and see if I even remembered anything about the game after a year long break from it. I fully expected that Iād get frustrated quickly by not remembering anything about gameplay or story and just turn it off after 30 minutes; well... 3 hours later I still couldnāt put it down. Fortunately the last time I played I had the foresight when I made my last save (at hour number 51 it turns out) many moons ago to choose a place that was easy to jump back into. It was right before the long narrative section introducing Futaba and being introduced that arc. So I think maybe Iāll mix this and God of War together for now. Weāll see. About to pop in GoW now and see if it holds my attention for another 3 hours. ...At this rate I probably wonāt ever sleep or eat again.

@RogerRoger Yeah, I surprised even myself when I pulled out the P5 disc. I typically have tried to limit my time to one longer AAA game at a time and intermix small to medium titles during the one āmainā game. But Iāve also learned through the years to āstrike while the iron is hotā so to speak and when a mood hits, I try to follow it because Iāve learned about myself that if I wait long enough then the moment passes into obscurity and the game I had an itch to play gets buried again.

I thought I was pretty much done after a 3 hour story section in AC Origins without access to the open world... and then realised there was like 2 quests left but about 6 areas in the top corner that I hadnāt been to. Currently wandering around Libya and honestly, I think the game would have been better without it. Iām loving the game but this last little bit for me to clear out to achieve 100% feels like overkill. And Iāve still got the DLC!
@nessisonett
The DLC is supposedly very, very good. Much like what you seem to be experiencing though, by the time I popped the Plat, I was ready to move on. Maybe Iāll go back and play it one day... but itās unlikely.
@nessisonett Yeah I was done well before then after I had finished the story. I was finding myself getting bored of the game so I stopped playing it before my experience of it was tarnished forever.
I needed a big break from the series after that, so much so that I'm still not in the mood to play Odyssey or Valhalla. Still really enjoyed Origins though, just felt there needed to be less of everything.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@JohnnyShoulder@colonelkilgore Yeah, I stopped the game when the story was complete, despite large areas of the map being unvisited and lots of side quests being incomplete. Itās a shame because the world is so beautiful and interesting. But I felt my enjoyment had crested and things would end sour if I pushed it. I actually was still on a relative high at the end and wanted to start Odyssey straight away but I knew it would ruin the series for me if I didnāt take a break. Then Ghost of Tsushima came along and that satisfied my AC appetite for a while.
I guess Odyssey is a little different in the gameplay department at least. Supposedly thereās dialogue choices, in addition to the different protagonists, and more emphasis on naval travel and battle. Maybe it will still feel fresh.

Yeah the combat is slightly tweaked in Origins and felt better to me as a result (maybe just a little tighter). The naval stuff is awesome... and just island hopping in general. Lots of the Greek islands have a distinct character and sub-culture.
@colonelkilgore So... I loved the naval combat in AC3. I think it felt different and an added bonus to detract from the core gameplay loop. Then when I played Black Flag, it felt like a chore and a bit annoying. It was part of what put me off about BF. I wonder if Iāll like how itās implemented in Odyssey

Well I've taken a short break from Code Vein for the time being... As my son ended up borrowing the Mafia trilogy from a friend and so I'm giving Mafia Definitive Edition a whirl.
I've played up to escorting Sarah home and so far I'm quite enjoying it.
I failed the first mission a few times as it just threw me straight into a driving mission and just the feel of driving took a bit of getting used to. The race mission took me three retries to come first too.
It looks quite nice (There's some particularly nice reflections in the game) and I'm enjoying the story and characters so far. Quite good stuff!

@Th3solution
I havenāt played 3 or BF (yet... theyāre there waiting for me on the shelf) so itās difficult for me to comment on this. I would imagine that it would be more similar to BF as it is more integral to the game than what I imagine it was in 3. I could be way off though.
@Th3solution I actually feel the exact same, 3ās naval combat was fantastic but in Black Flag, I spent so much time just wandering around in my ship wishing I was already at my destination. The naval combat also felt like it lacked feedback. In 3 the cannons felt weighty and you had to position yourself in order to train your cannons on the enemy. In Black Flag you just point and shoot.
@nessisonett Youāll have to let me know how you get along with Odyssey then, since we have similar feelings about Black Flag. Everyone raves about it being the best of the series, but I couldnāt get along with it. To me the naval part felt akin to the Batmobile in Arkham Knight ā took a nice diversionary play mechanic and made it repetitive and cumbersome by revolving around it too much.
Also I didnāt care for the BF protagonist, whatās his name... Kennard or Kinney or something...
Picked up the Outer Worlds from the holiday sale, and have been really enjoying it. I know it's Obsidian's Fallout without the Fallout license, but I also sometimes get a Dishonored vibe from the more condensed level structure. I think it's a great case of less can equal more. Even though there are smaller levels, there are quite a few corners to turn, and lots of doors to unlock and a good sense of exploration overall. I really enjoy smaller environment games that make good use of the environment. Dishonored, Deus Ex etc.
