I actually had to start the game again once I was about six or seven hours into it because I realised that I'd been mismanaging my resources so much in the early going that I'd crippled myself. The missions were getting too difficult for me.
When I started again and did different things it was much more manageable.
Tactics wise I would say that there are some massively important things you need to be doing. You need to build the GTS early so you can increase your squad size as soon as possible. It seems like a no-brainer but you need to use all of the classes, and you should have one of each type of specialist - combat and healing. You should start most rounds in which you're concealed by getting into good positions and then dropping a grenade right into the middle of the enemies - this removes the amour buff they get, if they've got one, and lets your other soldiers finish them off in one hit most of the time.
Always be researching, always be building, expand and contact new people as quickly as you can.
Use one of your speacialists to attempt to hack things you don't even need to hack. It will give you a per centage of how likely you are to succeed the hack, but also a successful hack comes with bonuses like giving you extra movement points, disorientating the enemy troops, or permanent stat boosts. These are a risk since if you fail the hack it can cause problems for your squad, but if you get good odds of success then these hacks can severely hurt the opposition and help you out.
Don't use burning cars for cover. RIP Yukiko Yoshida.
@johnalmc I am yet to start the game so thanks for the advice. Its always sad to lose a member of your team. I remember in the last Xcom game I managed to only get one member killed in the whole game. Even though it was only one loss of life it still bears heavily on my soul. I think not to use burning cars as covers not only applies to this game but every game you might play on consoles and most importantly never in real life. I will say a prayer for Yukiko Yoshida.
I will be getting this at some point but I know it'll give me trouble as I haven't managed to finish the first game yet. I've had to restart 3 times as I just was getting absolutely hammered by the aliens.
Does anyone know if XCOM 2: WAR OF THE CHOSEN really has these dramatic performance issues?
Or if these are patched in the meantime?
I'm very interested but read some rather bad stuff about it.
