Topic: Anyone had any dealings with Sony repairs recently?

Hi all,

After my white DS5 got stick drift, I followed the instructions on Sony's repairs process on the PS website.

I got a reference number and duly packed and posted the DS5 at my local post office. I got a tracking number from them to track the parcel. Went back onto the support page and tracked my return a couple of days later and it had updated to say it was on its way back to them - so far so good.

Now the weird part - the 'on its way back to us' status has now disappeared and it just displays the 'case opened - follow the instructions to post it back to us' status?
If I track the parcel via the Royal Mail, it landed with Sony (and was signed for!) on Thursday 30th May. Since then, no status update from Sony, still says I'm at post it back to them stage and I've not had any email confirmation to say they were repairing it.
I have a phone number for Playstation Player Support but the offices seem to be closed any time I try to phone it?

Anyone else have any similar dealings? Has the white DS5 disappeared into the ether?

@sanderson72 I have had exactly the same experience when I had to send back my PSVR2 controller due to it also having stick drift after my son punch a wall with it while playing 🤦‍♂️

Do not worry, its just the arse about face way the repairs system seems to work, you'll probably also receive an email at some point with a totally new reference number on it, they do this to generate the return label, you'll probably receive the controller back a few days after that.

If you don't like it, don't play it, and shut yo damn mouth

@nitram2k11 Thanks for that - bit worrying when it disappears off the scope entirely!

@nomither6 Thankfully the trusty old Pro and its controllers are still working fine!

@nitram2k11 Controller arrived back with me yesterday - and it still had the same service number, so not sure why the status updates didn't work?
Perhaps they're snowed under with drifting controllers? Turns out it's a replacement controller (serial number is significantly a larger number) so hopefully this one will last a bit longer.

No other contact from Sony apart from one day before it arrived saying it was on its way back!

@sanderson72 Nice. My day one controller broke within weeks of use, the R2 spring broke during the game Maneater. I deliberately left it till near the end of the 12 month guarantee to give Sony time to fix their design (which they did) so I sent it in. Communication from them was similar to your experience, very sparse so I don't think much has changed.
My replacement, a new White controller then broke a while after with the same issue. However I did read that the design change was initially on the colour controllers as the white ones were possibly old stock etc...
Have bought a couple of colour controllers since then (I'm now paranoid) and both have been okay.

Fun fact I still use my day one PS4 controller every so often and I'm convinced the "only ps5 controllers with ps5 games" is intentional in order to sell more controllers.

@CaptD "Fun fact I still use my day one PS4 controller every so often and I'm convinced the "only ps5 controllers with ps5 games" is intentional in order to sell more controllers."

Definitely - I've still got 3 official DS3 controllers and I have 4 DS4 controllers and none of them have ever had stick drift despite many years of constant use.
Yes, I remember there being some investigation into the internals which appeared a year or so ago on the pink, blue and one other, I think?
Will see how this new white one goes (serial number starts with something like 'F43xxxxx' whereas the old one was something like 'F34xxxxx' so hopefully updated internals! Either way, they still feel cheap compared to the old DS4.
