I do personally consider Dark Souls 2 to be the worst of the Dark Souls series myself.
But I also do like it over the PS3 version of Demon's Souls as it's waaaaay too janky to play now going back to it (The opening area to the Tower Of Latria is exceedingly well designed however to me and wonderfully atmospheric) or Bloodborne as the lack build/weapon variety in the base game makes it feel a bit samey to me (Though it has one of my favourite Boss Themes from a FromSoftware game in it and the lovecraftian cosmic horror elements are rather good too).
And yeah there are a few Berserk references in the souls series... I can kinda tell you like Berserk due to your avatar
Dragon's Dogma has a few Berserk references in as well... In fact in the PS3 version you could get Guts' armour I think? but you could also get Griffith's armour though they were taken out from the PC and PS4/Switch/Xbox one versions due to licence issues.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Wow, I didn't know Berserk was referenced in Dragon's Dogma, the armor sounds great. I might have to pick that up sometime. What are you playing nowadays?

There's a picture of the armour sets. Used to promote the animated film that came out at the time I believe.
The character Selene and her house in the Witchwood is supposed to be a reference to... I can't remember the name of her but the little witch girl Guts meets. Think that's it though for references @Draco_V_Ecliptic
I'm playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails Of Cold Steel & Bloodstained Ritual Of The Night at the moment.
Not entirely sure either of them are your cup of tea but I've posted about them at moderate length in the ps4 games thread and the GameClub thread
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Thanks, I think I will stick to my Guts build in DSR. I love the way that Greatsword looks. Did you happen to read any of the Berserk manga? You sound like you're familiar with it.
Are you a fan?

@Draco_V_Ecliptic I think Godfall looks really quite boring to be honest. I also don’t see why they would tone down the difficulty, it’s Bluepoint therefore I expect an almost like-for-like remake mechanically.
There are couple of good vids which point out the tweaks that people have noticed Bluepoint have done. Of course we won't really know until we start seeing some hands on and people start playing it. It's good that BP have listened to concerns from the reveal trailer.
@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, it looks like they have most of the modern mechanics of Souls games while adding some QOL changes. Imagine being able to actually vault over a tiny wall instead of it being an impenetrable barrier.
In the original Demon's Souls you could vault walls.
Well... I only remember doing it the once to land on a platform down below where Ostrava of Boletaria was where you initially meet him. It was very limited in function/use (basically not there really) but it was there.
That vault over the wall in the tutorial area is certainly new though.
I'm mainly thinking about the possibility that I can possibly make a souls character that I won't immeadiately want to hide in a helmet/armour
... Well that and trying to figure out if that's the Maiden In Black's original voice actress... Hard to tell as her accent seems less pronounced if it is.
Be interesting how much they change about the layout. But i imagine it won't be a great deal, just small things like the vault and ladder in tutorial area.
Oh did it @JohnnyShoulder? I was just kinda replying to ness there
Since a few weeks back I haven't been able to see any of the videos posted on Push Square whilst on mobile. Just shows as a blank blue box to me. I've had to use the quote function on people's posts to get the link and copy and paste it to see what they're linking to...
... Plus I'm currently patrolling the playground making sure the kids behave
Didn't realise there was a newly added ladder in the tutorial section... I'll take a look at those vids you posted later!
You can get this sword which looks like the big brute of a sword guts has... That's all I can really say on the matter as I'm not sure what that build means really!
Hmmm... There wasn't a whole lot of info I didn't really know from the vid.
The fact there's a ladder in the starting area is not that exciting now that I think about as you never get to go there again @JohnnyShoulder (... Unless you can now.) Don't recall there being anything useful in the tutorial area you could miss either but it's a neat little addition I guess.
The spider boss spewing oil before setting it alight was a nice addition to the animations. Never noticed the Flamelurker looking any different though (I thought it looked really generic in the original version but whatever 😅).
The pre-order bonus of the sycthe is probably the most interesting thing I wasn't aware of. I assume it's something you can get in game... Just you'll have to grind for the piddly drop rate if ya didn't pre-order it.
I don't think I've ever been considered cool... And the only other colleague who games is more casual about it, he's even dabbled in fortnite unlike me... So I guess not?

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Yeah there wasn't much to go on, but a few interesting tid bits like the things you mentioned and the shield parry and if they will have the original 4 way roll mechanic from the original.
Apparently a lot fans of the original voiced their concerns on some the enemy, player armour and location designs. Which I think Bluepoint has listened and updated some of them.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video anyway!
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
Honestly the biggest change I hope they made @JohnnyShoulder for Demon's Souls is making the Crystal Lizards work like how they do in Dark Souls.
The fact they only appeared 5 or so times before disappearing forever (with random stone drops to boot) was ridiculous in Demon's Souls. Weapons were a real pain to upgrade.
I never played the original, but I love the modern changes it looks to have. It looks to take improvements in Souls games since, add a bit of new stuff to keep it fresh, but most importantly, keep the revered design and vision of the original faithfully intact. This is gonna be the greatest launch title of all time.
@nessisonett
It's subjective though, isn't it? I'm sure you're right about them being masterpieces or close to that. But plenty of people aren't interested in Mario and of course the same can be said for Souls games.
For me the best launch game is currently Resogun, I'm probably on my own there.
