I enjoyed the first game but by the time i got to the end wished i hadn't bothered playing this, did you enjoy it or feel the same way?

I found it really tedious and a complete slog to play through honestly.

I loved it… but I guess that’s just me 😱

@Max_Headroom it was almost as much of a slog as the last "Horizon" game.

I didn't mind the last horizon game and did finish it but it was my first game on the PS5 and the first game i had played in years.

@LN78 I’m currently playing through Alan Wake II. Have you not enjoyed the game overall or just find it’s overlong? So far I’m pretty enthralled.

@Max_Headroom I thought it was an excellent game but really didn’t like the direction they took with progression and customization. I just found it over complicated for no valid reason. That and the map drove me nuts on numerous occasions while hunting down collectables in the end game. Definitely not wishing I hadn’t played it though!

@LN78 Interesting. I’m still in the early stages of being blown away by the presentation of it all but I was wondering how grating some of the mechanics (case wall…) might get by hour 20. Here’s hoping a mind blowing ending pulls it all together for you.

@Jimmer-jammer I was enjoying the story for a while - now I'm finding it more and more abstruse and the characters increasingly grating. I was hoping for some significant gameplay improvements over the first game but they're not there either. It's firmly in 4/10 country at the moment and I don't see that changing unless the ending is mind blowing .

WOW I may have just dodged a bullet as I was intending to buy Alan Wake 2 next, thanks for the warning.

@Max_Headroom Don't take my word for it - it got a ton of high mark reviews. I'd say borrow or rent a copy but you can't. Digital for the win, indeed.

I may wait until AW2 gets into the second hand market then its no big loss if i dont like it and a massive win if i do.

@LN78 @Max_Headroom That’s a shame and the sad reality of a digital only release. I’m enjoying it very much up to the point I’m at, and still may love it by the end, time will tell. I’m just seeing some cracks that are already detracting from the experience. Specifically, while I initially thought the case wall was the coolest thing ever, it has, in short order, devolved into me just impatiently clicking around until I find where the piece of evidence fits. Wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t such an integral part of the game.

@Max_Headroom There's no second hand market for digital only games, mate!

@Jimmer-jammer Yup. I thought the case board was going to involve actual deductive reasoning, too (it probably started out that way, mechanically) but it devolved into little more than a frustrating (and unnecessary) plot tracker incredibly quickly. Saga's banal and witless observations can get in the bin, too.

Thanks for the warning.

Interesting reading these comments re AW2, given the 10/10 reviews, perhaps some reviewers didn't see it out til the end....

Digital only means I'm far from purchasing it yet, not looking forward to the future of gaming. Wishful thinking but an online store where person A could transfer their digital code to person B for an agreed price (with Sony/devs taking a small cut) really doesn't seem too difficult to implement.

As for ragnarok, I did find it a bit of a slog compared to the first, and agree with an earlier comment about the map (on both games) being more than unhelpful. But got the platinum and glad to have played it.

I recently completed the game (PS5 version) and now doing post-game trophy cleanup. I had major game-breaking bugs / glitches in the middle section of the main story which I was forced to reload previous save files just to continue. The worst was after beating Heimdall, I just could not even get out of the arena.

Also had numerous graphical and sound glitches in cutscenes (as in characters just standing still then suddenly zip to their intended location and sound cutting out), that took me out of the experience. I played GoW 2018 on the PS4 and never had any issue whatsoever.

My score is 6 / 10

It genuinely feels like the comment section on this site no longer represents the same sentiment as the rest of player base. Alan Wake 2 may not be a 9 or 10 but it is definitely a strong 8. God of War Ragnarok is a 9-10/10.

you even see it for FF7 Rebirth where the comments in the poll talk mostly negative to mixed but the actual poll skews heavily into high marks.

Just completed GoW:R. Loved it. I thought it struggled with pacing in the first third or so of the game. But once it got through that it was just epic moment after epic moment with the storing building up nicely to its grand finale. After my first few hours playthrough I didn't think I'd rank it higher than GoW 2018 but by the end it surpassed it for me.

Mayo for Sam. Year TBC.
